(up to 4 golden wrenches) The donations are sent to charities to help hospitalized children. List of current donation progression in the above link!
Charity Update Log Those of you who spent the weekend Ghost-riding the whip trying to earn an Alien Parasite Hat—or whatever it is people do when they go outside on the weekend—probably feel pretty good about yourselves right now. At the end of the day, though, what do you have to show for it? Vague memories of getting crunk. The next twenty-five of the people who wisely choose to donate at least $10 to the Golden Charity, on the other hand, will be absolute heroes to hospitalized children. For a weekend? No. For a lifetime. But that's not all! Luckily for everyone who hasn't given yet, there's still time to contribute to Child's Play Charity. After the next 25 donations of $10 or more, another owner of a Golden Wrench will sacrifice his/her prized possession*. That's right, the more donations received for Child's Play, the more gold goes into the smelting pot —with all of this culminating in the long-awaited Golden Charity Destruction Marathon!** Unlike with the Golden Wrench, this system is absolutely not random; in fact, you can even enter more than once! *The identity of the next Wrench owner will be revealed when the benchmark is passed. **PS: Okay, well it's less of a marathon and more of a dance party.
So if you're a mad nerd who wants the golden wrenches destroyed if you cannot have them, why not donate a mesely 10 bucks that will not only go to charity, but take you one step closer to having one of those wrenches destroyed? Genius, I say. Absolute genius.
Can I just donate 250$?
Holy shit they already got $1,078
Holy shit they already got $1,078
It's actually working?? Holy shit. I never thought their plan would actually work.
So you destroy a silly weapon and save a kids life? Valve should Endorse this and give donators Angel wings for being nice people.
So you destroy a silly weapon and save a kids life? Valve should Endorse this and give donators Angel wings for being nice people.
this.
I'd donate too but I don't have a credit card. Curse you, requirement of credit cards!
I only have paper money. Do they destroy it voluntarily or does valve nick it from someone at random?
So they got a limited and special weapon to be destroyed 3 weeks after. Interesting. No I thank God for not give me that weapon.
[IMG_thumb]http://imgur.com/6QSOW.png[/IMG_thumb] I made it my spray, gonna spread the word to others... It's here if you want it: /Link\
What is this... I don't understand. Would any of these people have donated if it wasn't so a weapon they can't have was getting destroyed? Likely not. Unless I am misinterpreting this.
You can always goto a store that sells Mastercard/Visa gift cards. It's how a lot of kids buy stuff online, since it acts just like a credit card. Just make sure they're generic gift cards that can be used anywhere.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid" - The scout "STOOPID STOOPID STOOPID" - The heavy It's like, cant they donate the money to charity and keep the wrenches.
Who rated the Charity for Sick-Kids dumb?
Valve should have done this. More donations, random golden wrenches destroyed.
Is there any proof that it REALLY goes to child's play and not directly into their pocket?
I hear people being jealous on those with golden wrenches.
Really wish I could donate though going through a small crisis of my own right now. If I can somehow flip it around I'll donate though
Call it dumb if you want, but I still feel these people are awesome :3: Not because I care much about the wrenches being destroyed, but because I admire that they successfully put a useless cosmetic item to use.
Donated $10. Makin a lot more money than I thought I would selling old stuff on the net, might as well pay a bit forward.
So you destroy a silly weapon and save a kids life? Valve should Endorse this and give donators Angel wings for being nice people.
If they do I'm donating.
If I were the owner of the #31 wrench, I'll just keep to myself.
I'd donate but the requirement of these "credit cards" have made such an action impossible. I wonder how they got over a $1000 dollars though. :O
you're not "technically" saving a kids life, you're giving him/her a video game/toy/movie. more or less. great charity nonetheless
And then the ones who destroyed their golden wrench, ask valve to give it back to them.
I really hope some children actually benefit from this, not some evil scoundrels only wanting the money in our pockets...
And then the ones who destroyed their golden wrench, ask valve to give it back to them.
Totally defeat the purpose of it
If I had a golden wrench I'd destroy it for this cause.
if everyone destroy their golden wrenches will valve remove it from game content?:v:
It's silly that people are willing to pay to see this, but I guess it's good.
