Im in quite a predicament. Im not going into full details as to why im forced to run linux but lets just say i was an idiot. I havent currently got the money to buy windows seven either. Is there anyway to launch team fortress 2 in open GL like in MAC? Or at least a way to install direct X in linux with it actually working? every tutorial i have tried on google doesn't seem to work. Im not sure if im doing the steps wrong or what but i have tried each one at least twice... Is there anyone here who can help?
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steam_under_Linux
heard of wine... Never heard of play on linux, Thanks for the feed back i got a good feeling about this one EDIT: Should have read more of that before posting... Thats just how to install steam I've figured that much out on my own, i've got tf2 installed as well. My problem is running the game, It says launching team fortress two, and then it stops but nothing pops up.
I might understand the problem. The TF2 "bin" folder has to be removed. I don't know how you search for the right directory in Linux, but maybe you will find it. Just look for a folder named "Steam" and it should be easy.
Hmmm... allright Thats better then just sitting here doing nothing i suppose [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] Ill be back... WITH RESULTS :eng101: [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] deleting the TF2 Bin folder just makes it have to redownload that folder to the game's content directory.
It's supposed to re-download it. The bin files can get messed up sometimes so it's good if Steam can re-download them.
hmm... Well reguardless of that information it still doesn't work. It was a good try though.
Try deleting the bin folder which is in the tf folder. (team fortress 2 > tf > bin)
Still nothing... Im most certain the problem lies within the fact that i dont have direct X on this computer, With it being linux and all direct X installs but it doesn't seem to work. Would there be anyway to make steam think im on a mac and that way it would be forced to run it with OGL?
Can you add -opengl as a launch command? That's how I got a different game to run on Linux.
I don't think tf2 supports OpenGL
Steam doesn't work without wine so yes, i am trying it with wine. And mac uses OGL since directX only works with windows. I have tried using -opengl as a launch command but that does nothing.
Maybe Steam Support got an answer? I believe they support Linux, because they have released linux updates to some of their games, such as Half Life 2: Deathmatch.
I was hoping i wouldn't ever need to go back to steam support. I understand they got alot of questions but boy are they slow...
Have you tried this? http://www.fsckin.com/2007/10/15/how-to-run-team-fortress-2-half-life-2-hl2-ep-12-in-ubuntu-using-wine/
Also install wine doors with apt-get install wine-doors
Also install wine doors with apt-get install wine-doors
says wine doors isn't a valid package name. Tried going through the software center too. It's not there.
