This isn't fast threads and I'm sick of having to come in here as shit gets reported constantly.
the pyro update will come out tomorrow, for sure
PREVIOUSLY, on MAJOR UPDATE SPECULATION (as of January 18th): Well... nothing that is simultaneously official and important has been released since the beginning of the last Major Update Speculation thread.

But quite a bit of unofficial information has been.. drip-fed to the community over the past few months. For instance, we know that within the Pyro Update, there will be a new campaign, new maps (including a Valve-made, jungle-themed map that the TF Team posted about on the blog last November), a new SFM short, new weapons for the Pyro, and changes/improvements to Competitive Matchmaking. And before the update comes out, there will be a blog post going over some, if not all, of the balance decisions in the update.
Tyler from Valve News Network recently sent a few questions in an email, some of which the TF Team said they would answer:
1. How much pull did the team have in the development of the OST Vinyl? Are the new soundscape and unseen SFM pictures purposeful teasing?
2. Mr. Lombardi stressed Valve's push to Source 2, stating that "Source 2 is the future for every project." Does this apply to TF2?
3. Almost three years have passed since the introduction of the Mann Co. Beta Maps program. What is the status on Asteroid and Cactus Canyon?
4. How far into the future does the team look? How much of a future, in terms of years, do you see for TF2 at this point?
5. Late June/Early July?
6. How does the team divide labor to achieve such high goals? With a smaller team, how do you get the work done?
7. What are the benefits of tiered rarity with cosmetics in crates?
So we have likely vague answers of those questions to look forward to in the near (?) future.

This will probably be my last MUS. I've done five of them, and it's been quite the ride. Here, have an OP template for the next one.
EDIT: sorry stroheim
stroheim defeated again
I've been kinda on a roll here lol
but don't worry, you can make the next one, or at least compete with whoever wants to make the next one. i am flattered you continued the "previously on major update speculation" thing i started in v33
edit: damn that was around 11 months ago
I blame the "Repeat?" Flair.
Also: [sp]my title was better[/sp]
Ehh, can't say I like the new name
Here's to hoping the update finally comes out within the next few weeks. The wait has been brutal, but it does sound like it will be worth it.
I like the title. It echoes the pre-MyM release title.
Depending on how the Jungle update is, it'll either be a case of
"Once more, with passion!" (doing what MyM was supposed to do, except right)
or just repeating history
which one will it be? who knoooows
If the update is like MYM (good or bad), I say we change the thread title to "Met Our Match 2: Expected (adjective) update, got (adjective) update"
That New Thread Smell and High Hopes for the Pyro Update.
Should also add that we are getting Non stock skin weapons in the next campaign and players will be able to choose the contract they want.
Non stock weapons was confirmed by VNN
Source: https://puu.sh/tXadK/5b7f1b83bb.png
The players choice in contracts was confirmed at an interview
"players will soon be able to choose which contracts to accept and hunt for specific rewards in what Valve internally calls “choose your own adventure”. "

ahh new thread smell
Blog post tomorrow for sure?
Well let's try again MUS.
Will the Major Update be out by the end of this thread?
(if not im just gonna end it)

What will happen first? The update or Rick and Morty s3e2?
I'm calling it now: MUS V38: OH GOD EVERYTHING'S ON FIRE
i caaaant waaaaait
woooo
At least it won't be as bare-bones in content compared to MYM, 4 taunts and 4 maps. Easy enough to beat.
At least it won't be as bare-bones in content compared to MYM, 4 taunts and 4 maps. Easy enough to beat.
it's been proven that we could expect nothing and still be disappointed
post your delusional dream scenarios for the Pyro update
I'll start!
4+ New Maps!
* Cactus Canyon is out of beta!
* Valve's Jungle Map has been released! (maybe this map is just a detail run of Cactus Canyon? )
* CP_Sulfur has been added to the game!
* insert other community map here
Casual Improvements
* Friends can now seamlessly join your Casual games when there's a slot open!
* Autobalance is back and better than ever- at the end of every round, we'll check for imbalances. If we notice a severe imbalance, autobalance will occur here. Those who are balanced to another team will receive an EXP bonus, regardless of win or loss.
* Better map voting! We've extended the pool of map voting from three maps, including the one you're playing, to ten maps!
Competitive Mode Improvements
* Listening to community feedback, we've implemented a class limit of 2 for Offense classes and a class limit of 1 for Defense and Support classes.
* For now, we won't be banning any weapons- but we will be keeping an eye on how your games in matchmaking are going with them!
Class limits, weapon bans and other adjustments are all works in progress. We'll adjust our Competitive Mode according to your feedback and our testing.
* Placement matches!
* Proper ELO rankings!
Class Balance
* Pyro doesn't suck anymore! Here, have some cool shit and those bugfixes you asked for.
* Miscellaneous rebalances for other classes that we think will make the game more fun!
* No Heavy nerfs, we promise!
Miscellaneous
* Performance optimizations!
* New performance settings for getting the best out of your TF2 experience!
* Universal viewmodel inspect!
* We made a Universal Strangifier a rare unbox in our new crate! Go wild!
If the update patch notes look anything like this, I'll feel a great sense of joy and wonder.
We all know at least one of those points is never going to happen, though...
Can you even access Cactus Canyon anymore? Is it even on Valve servers?

I like Sulfur and hopes it goes official eventually but I don't think it really fits the jungle theme since it's more of a Japanese garden.
My current guesses for community maps based on what I've played (and it's certainly not all of the maps on the workshop) are KOTH_Lazarus (I've tested this map a number of times and it's a quality map) and PL_Enclosure (it's been a little while since I played this and the older versions had some performance issues I'm not sure are fixed. Still it was a fairly fun 3 stage Payload map with a Jurassic Park theme that's sure to be popular).
The only other map that I've gotten a chance to play is CP_Overgrown but the last time I played that (which was about a week ago) the map wasn't finished and still had some dev textures.
There are a lot of other maps that look interesting but I haven't gotten a chance to play them personally (other than booting them up in a local server) so I can't say how exactly they would play.
Can you even access Cactus Canyon anymore? Is it even on Valve servers?
Valve doesn't run it anymore but it's still in the TF2 files so you can play on it if you find a community server running it.

With the dev team focused on improving the competitive features and adding new content, I wouldn't be expecting any optimization soon. But if by surprise I get to read at least one line in the update log dedicated to performance changes, I would be very grateful.
But can they update the LOD of community hats?
But can they update the LOD of community hats?
Yes, if it would be a long-term project like the c_models.
I know Tomorrow for sure is a joke but seeing all the people posting random times predicting the blogpost and update makes me wonder why people are still guessing

Fun, boredom, guessing.
Some might call it speculating.
Strictly prohibited. Speculating in MUS is punishable by death. Talk about Powerhouse only.
I would like to see them loosen up on the config restrictions in competitive.

I don't know why thinks anything is going to happen tomorrow other than it being a Thursday.
The TF team clearly is clearly in hermit mode for whatever reason, and we've still largely got the whole rest of June, July, and then August before people start questioning if the update has gone vaporware.
Nothing update related is going to happen tomorrow, I will bet you a key on it.
Edit: nothing did happen, Shamefru DISPRAY fulurry
