Well i have that game, ive never installed it because i dont have much freespace on my harddrive but is it a part of hl2 story or what i mean is this some link between hl1 and hl2 because i dont know what it is, so is it a actual part of game or should i just leave it uninstalled.

It's a techdemo to show off HDR, why would they add anything else?
Lost coast is a cut part of the original HL2 game. It is was originaly set on the coast levels of HL2. Then it was used as a technology desmostration for HDR

I'm porting Lost Coast to Left 4 Dead as a survival map.
It was interesting to play, and I noticed the HDR much more than I did in other games. The dev commentary was so-so, explains the HDR effect well though.
NPC Fisherman uses Barney's AI. The Chopper also uses/displays Gunship AI.
Fun fact:
Fisherman has the highest resolution texture sheets for a character in all the hl series of games.
