I'm creating this thread just to discuss the Battlefield franchise and not to post in hundreds of different threads. But let us begin with:
A Swedish video game development company DICE or Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment of EA has developed something very big, an entertainment to all, which is very popular, which is well-known, basically:

franchise.
Battlefield is a FPS franchise. It features almost everything what a typical battle needs - tanks, aircraft, infantry, guns. There are lots of Battlefields, like:
Battlefield 1942 which has a famous mod called Desert Infantry or something.
Also: Bf 2. Very good game, it features modern warfare and commander. You can be Commander Shepard and fire heavy artillery on Chinese and stuff. Game of the 2000 - 2010 Decade definetely.
This franchise also features Simulating Battles on the Fields in 2143, which features futuristic and dogtagstic warfare. It has giant robots and Star Wars ships. Haven't tried yet.
Also Bad Company series such as Bad Company 2. It's made out of Frostbite Engine 1.5, which has good graphics, good physics, fun singleplayer, good multiplayer, average Battlefield community.
And Bottlefold Heroes, which is almost free. You just need real cash if you want to buy bigger guns and cosmetic items such as hats.
Basically Battlefield franchise is a good FPS franchise and it has a powerful competitor - Call of Duty franchise, but let's not talk about that before black cops turn me into a zombie.

So who's excited for Battlefield Cocks4Free, BF Heroes Community Boss says it's good for Battlefield 3 since it'll have connections, not in Play4Free shit, but you get my continental drift. ;)
Here, have my opinions:
BF1942: Incredibly amazing, but netcode was permanently fucked up in one of the patches and was never fixed. Still remains my favourite battlefield to date.
BF Vietnam: Fun, but I don't like Vietnam era much so the interest kinda died on me.
BF2: Good, but I bought it for the mods.
BF2142: Never played. Should someday.
BF Heroes: Utter shit
BC1: Never played
BC2: Very fun, but it does get old after a few months.

1942 was an amazing aircraft simulator. I always loved bombing bots, expecially in Vietnam.
and BC2 never gets old to me, because Imma patient sniper. ;)
I bought 1942 on launch day and still play it today.
DICE: Making games since 1988, still no knowledge of how to make a good netcode
My old friend gave it to me a long time ago. Wish I could have nostalgia on this game so I could get it and play again.

I dunno what netcode is, but it isnt bothering me, since Battlefield is an amazing.
Heroes was good for a while, but it's clearly becoming one of those "Give us money to have a chance" games.
It's upsetting, the gameplay is good but it's ruined by the developers.
to have a chance you mean to win? Everybody in the game is pathetic. They'll get shot on any circumstance.

You should play BC1
Not as graphically appealing or as many toys to play with but it has the best maps of any of them IMO.
I wish I could play BC1. The maps don't flare as much as in BC2, at least.
Got 1942 and never stopped loving it.
Got bf2 just got forgotten hope. but i've not played that as much as fh for 1942.
Only played the demo for 2142. Wasn't too bad, but i like history better than future warfare.
BC1 on console.
BC2 have not tried yet.
Not a battlefield, but certainly worth checking out just for the sake of knowing what it is:
Codename eagle.

I think I fell in love with Oasis during the demo for BC1. Nice to see they are porting it to BC2, all I need to do now is buy that.

not knowing what VAC is*
Project Reality for BF2 is still amazing and played by hundreds of people at any one time.
