Would you still like to do Prospero? Yes. Right after TF-2.
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Gabe_Newell%27s_FAQ Can this mean that L4D2 and HL2:EP3 is not everything that Valve is busy on ? Since it already is after TF-2
that is really old, note the 2006. Though they could be but I doubt
Prospero?
A game, I'm guessing.
He probably joked, because the community thought tf2 was vaporware at this time
Yes, it's a game: http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Prospero I doubt we'll ever see it, but it would be an interesting alternative to Half-Life.
NOW I remember it... Looked fun. [editline]09:45PM[/editline]
Influences would have included the video game Myst and the works of Jorge Luis Borges.
Myst was awesome, it was going to be fun.
Maybe after they finish up EP3 and end this story arc. They might make Half-life 3 or they might take a break from Half-Life and make something different, like Prospero.
They might make Half-life 3.
I don't like repeating myself everytime: EP1-EP3 is HL3. Valve stated this god knows how long ago.
EP1-EP3 are the 3 Expansion packs for HL2. VALVe Never said they were HL3. Source for such is needed, then.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i_valve_060606 They say it there.
EP1-EP3 are the 3 Expansion packs for HL2. VALVe Never said they were HL3. Source for such is needed, then.
valve pretty much considers Ep1-Ep3 HL3. They decided to develop the games into episodes so that development wouldn't have been as long as HL2's was.
Fuck. I'm done.
valve pretty much considers Ep1-Ep3 HL3. They decided to develop the games into episodes so that development wouldn't have been as long as HL2's was.
They stopped that, it's just Episode 1-3 now, it's not HL3.
Almost everything in the episodes were going to be in Half-Life 2, but they were cut out. In Half-Life 2 beta I mean. Borealis, Antlion caves etc
I hope the molotov will make a come back in EP3, it suits the cold environment. And I hope free TVs and the brickbat will come back in HL3.
I hope the molotov will make a come back in EP3, it suits the cold environment. And I hope free TVs and the brickbat will come back in HL3.
We dont need molotovs, and we have a brickbat in HL2. It's called a gravity gun there. And free TVs ? What ? You mean this ? But what does this have to do with gameplay ?
I hope the molotov will make a come back in EP3, it suits the cold environment. And I hope free TVs and the brickbat will come back in HL3.
Free TVs was a tech demo, it was never part of the actual game
Free TVs was a tech demo, it was never part of the actual game
Yea, it was pretty much made to test hand-to-hand combat between Civil Protection and Civilians. I guess it didn't work out too well because they didn't use it.
Tech demo? Hand to hand combat? I'd like a link to that.
He was joking. Prospero was a game they were working on alongside Half-Life but they cancelled it to focus on Half-Life.
Tech demo? Hand to hand combat? I'd like a link to that.
We would all like a link to that. There are the maps in the WC *cough* map*cough*pack *cough* but no hand to hand combat is shown there
We would all like a link to that. There are the maps in the WC *cough* map*cough*pack *cough* but no hand to hand combat is shown there
city_test-something.vmf. There's really nothing there, no NPCs or the like. Try the .map pack instead.
He was joking. Prospero was a game they were working on alongside Half-Life but they cancelled it to focus on Half-Life.
Previously cancelled. Just because you cancel something doesn't mean that you throw out the idea, it just means that you stop making it. Valve can still make Prospero.
Does anyone have any info on it? All I know is that some of the music and ideas were transferred to Half-Life, and the main character was female.
I guess not?
Does anyone have any info on it?
There's some stuff in Raising the Bar. Some interesting points are that the main character was called "The Librarian" or "Aleph" and there was psionic combat.
Im thinking they was talking about portal as prospero back at 2006. The game emphasized exploration, an intricate storyline, and combat via "psionic" powers Yeah, portal is a reincarnation of prospero
Im thinking they was talking about portal as prospero. What is prospero? read "Raising The Bar"
Raising the Bar is expensive, and its not sold anymore
Raising the Bar is expensive, and its not sold anymore
I have it though. Only one article about it, but here it is:
Prospero was one of Valve's first game designs. Originally slated to come out shortly after Half-Life, the game emphasized exploration, an intricate storyline, and combat via "psionic" powers. Prospero's heroine (known as "The Librarian" or "Aleph") underwent a series of design changes during the early development of the game. One iteration relied heavily on the use of hardware psionic amplifiers to augment her innate abilities. As the design on Quiver started to take over some of Prospero's initial goals, Prospero started to change into a massively multiplayer game. Prospero was also intended to be distributed with a complicated mix of Valve and user-created worlds accessed through the in-game "library," each world running on a different server. Online distribution, a server browser, a friend finder, and other ambitions initially developed for Prospero never quite died, but found a new home in what was eventually to become Half-Life, as well as Steam.
