Source
Yesterday saw the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops, a new first-person shooter which portrays fictional covert missions of the Cold War. Now, one of the few communist governments left over after the collapse of the Soviet Union is denouncing the game as a tool of propaganda. As expressed in the state-run Web site Cubadebate, the Cuban government has taken major umbrage with the game, particularly its first level. (SPOILER ALERT) [sp]"U.S. launches video game whose objective is to assassinate Fidel" ran a headline on the Web site, referring to a mission that sees players attempt to assassinate a young Fidel Castro shortly after his forces overran Havana and deposed dictator Fulgencio Batista. Instead, players kill a body double and are captured.[/sp] (END SPOILERS) "The logic of this new game is doubly perverse," declares the article. "First, it glorifies the attacks illegally planned by the United States government against the Cuban leader. …On the other hand, it encourages sociopathic attitudes of American children and adolescents, the main consumers of these virtual games." The article goes on to decry other violent video games, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and The Warriors, saying that they encourage violence in the United States. Quoting the Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano, the article ends, "Violence begets violence, but also generates revenue for the violence industry, which sells it as a show and makes it an object of consumption."
Weeeell. I'm pretty sure Cuba will be banning the game sometime soon.
Another game, another country pissed off about it's content.
So... They don't like truth? I'm sorry but this is just retarded.
So... They don't like truth? I'm sorry but this is just retarded.
Are you inferring the storyline is truthful and realistic? Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Are you inferring the storyline is truthful and realistic? Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Damn, I have you on my ignore list but I always get tempted to see your retarded posts. There are about 600 (Was it 600, can't remember, can't be bothered to check Wiki) assassination attempts against Castro. They are against it being portrayed in the game. As if it didn't happen.
Well I'm pretty sure if there was some game where you kill americans that americans would cause shitstorm about it.
Well I'm pretty sure if there was some game where you kill americans that americans would cause shitstorm about it.
Well considering the shitstorm about calling the Taliban the Taliban in MoH, I wouldn't doubt it. I really don't care about it, it's a game.
Its not the fact that its not true that matters, the fact tthat its being portrayed in a video game, media available to the masses , is what makes it look like propaganda.
There are about 600 (Was it 600, can't remember, can't be bothered to check Wiki) assassination attempts against Castro.
Yeah let's check it
such attempts allegedly included an exploding cigar, a fungal-infected scuba-diving suit...
Sorry but the wiki is even dumber than the game.
Yeah let's check it Sorry but the wiki is even dumber than the game.
But we are ignoring the serious ones?
Yes it's more fun this way.
When 12 year old boys are getting their hands on this, it's not right. Games that use actual peoples' names are pretty bad. Notice how we never attempted to kill Hitler in a game yet. Assassinations were attempted multiple times. Don't post a reply with the robo hitler from Quake.

Well, I don't know what it's rating is, but I think it's 16+. Just because parents are buying their snotty 12 year old children the game, it doesn't mean everybody has to stop buying it, because you can attempt to kill Castro in it.
Welcome to Modern Warfare 2 where the us army turns on you and you have to kill us soldiers.
Doesn't it give you the option of skipping some scenes in the very beginning of Black Ops? Shouldn't that be one of them?
Doesn't it give you the option of skipping some scenes in the very beginning of Black Ops? Shouldn't that be one of them?
Why the fuck would it give you the option to skip it? It's a brief moment in one level that shouldn't be offensive to anybody.
Why the fuck would it give you the option to skip it? It's a brief moment in one level that shouldn't be offensive to anybody.
Castro might stop playing at that point. He has feelings too. :frown:
Inb4 "Remember, no cuban".
I think Castro would enjoy assasinating himself. I would.
i'd feel like a total badass if i was important enough to be assassinated

If you don't want 12 year olds shooting people real or made up, then they shouldn't be getting the games.
They should have done a Modern Warfare 2 and tell the player about an upsetting mission that takes place in the game, whilst offering them a chance to skip this mission. :crying:
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and The Warriors
Is it still 2004 in Cuba?
Yeah let's check it Sorry but the wiki is even dumber than the game.
The idea's to kill Castro were just ways to kill time. Or they were high when they thought of them.
stupid article, at least games are made by individuals rather than this paper probably written by their government god what a shithole
Cuba is a great place.
Remember, No Cuban.
So... They don't like truth? I'm sorry but this is just retarded.
Because Castro, Nixon, Some dick, and JFK shot zombies in the Pentagon right?
