And no error message, basically, all the windows pop up for about 1-2 seconds, then it just closes.

I would reinstall it. Thats all i can tell you. But eh, make sure you keep your files you want, (regrets).

I think Source is a lot of things. What is it like on thread Validate game cache.
It's a error, if you play a source game, you might get an error about the Source Engine, usually you should wait, or logout and log back in, or restart, if no, your Source Engine is broken
