I don't know how late I may be with this but... I just saw this episode of "Extra Credits": http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2414-Facing-Controversy
And boy does this change everything... I saw a few other of their vids and they are good, but this one hit home the most. I'm the only one in my family who has a true understanding of video games. However, I use "true" loosely because not everyone is a true believer. I am planning to enter the gaming industry in several years as a programmer, but I hope to eventually become a developer. I want to know from you all at Facepunch:
1) How much do you think you really know about the industry? (Scale of 1 - 10)
2) What are you doing to support it?
3) What aren't you doing enough of to support it?
4) Will you be there to support it all the way in it's darkest hour? Or will you abandon it to the fire of spite?
I hope that all of you answer these questions properly for this would help me understand the mindset of those around me. I want to see just how many of you will be there when the flame wars begin in real life and the industry suffocates. I know I'll be there, will you?
Yes.
Welcome to Facepunch. Get the fuck out.

Nothing more could be said.
For the love of Jesus Christ, PLEASE learn the ropes before posting here, and by learn the ropes I mean lurk.
Lurking may seem grim, but you will have a better reputation if you do, if you even get that far.

I wasn't aware I had to do more to support the industry then buy the goddamn game. And what do you want me to do in its darkest hour? Buy 2 copies? And abandon it to the fire of spite? Are we peeking at the next Lord Of The Rings script by any chance?
This is the whole "Games are art" debate.
..My advice, stfu and go play Dwarf Fortress.
