You might not know it, but right now an epic battle is raging. Valve are through to the Semi Finals of March Mayhem, a developer tournament hosted on EscapistMagazine. So far, Valve have smashed the opposition. Now, they're going to face the tournament darkhorses.
Zynga (the creators of Farmville) have gone through NCSoft, Infinity Ward, Rockstar and Square Enix to get to this round. How Farmville beats COD, GTA and Final Fantasy, I'm not sure, but I know one thing.

When zynga took out Square Enix in the quarter finals, 14,000 votes were cast. 6,500 of those were cast AGAINST Zynga, but still they emerged victorious. As separate groups, as clans and as friends groups, we are too few to beat the horde. Together, we stand a chance.
Escapist and Machinima might be a hundred leagues apart, but one thing does unite us. We are gamers. Even though you might not be a Valve fan, Zynga are to gaming as Twilight is to literature, and I don't know about you, but I can't stand by and let a sea of mediocrity drown out a real developer.

I hope Valve makes a news post on Steam.
I find the problem being that facebook has around 15 million people on it, compared to the current 2 and a half million people on steam. We're screwed.

Most of the Zynga fans on Facebook have probably never even hard of Valve, so linking the poll with Facebook is hardly fair.
And they're not really a game dev in the same sense that Valve are.
