• Age of Conan re-evaluation!

From today to July 22nd, you can reactivate your (non-banned) Age of Conan account for two weeks. No resubscribing needed or anything. I'm a lazy fuck so I'll just copypaste. [quote=Escapistmagazine.com]Funcom has announced the launch of an Age of Conan "re-evaluation campaign" during which anyone with a closed account can reactivate and play the game for two weeks at no charge and with no strings attached. It's been a rough road for Age of Conan, the Funcom MMOG based on Robert E. Howard's famous fictional world. Plagued by launch delays and bugs, the game racked up solid early numbers but saw its membership drop off precipitously just a few months after it came out. Funcom was eventually forced to cut the number of servers supporting the game from 49 to 18, but it also continued working on the game and is now ready to show off the "massive updates and improvements" that have been made. "For anyone with an inactive account who ever thought about giving it another try, this is your chance," said Morten Larssen, Funcom's vice-president of sales and marketing. "After the hugely successful launch last year we immediately started working on updates that would make the game better and provide more content for players, and that is what we have been doing this past year. With the most recent update just out the door, this is the time to ask players to come back and see the results!" Those results include the addition of the outdoor area of Ymir's Pass, the "huge dungeon" of Xibaluku and the city of Tarantia Commons, each of which offer new quests, enemies and rewards. A new PvP notoriety system allows players to become murderers and hunt each other down for exclusive rewards, while support for DirectX 10 technology has also been implemented. "I think that players have always seen the great potential in Age of Conan and we have put a lot of effort into realizing that potential," said Game Director Craig Morrison. "The game has improved tremendously since launch and we look forward to having players come back and seeing the changes for themselves!" The re-evaluation campaign begins today and runs until July 22, during which time anyone with a closed account in good standing can reactivate and play free for two weeks. The new trial campaign will be temporarily closed, Funcom said, "to ensure the best play environment for all returning players." More information is available at ageofconan.com/updates.[/quote] Basically, they're giving you free two weeks to try out all the new stuff they've added during the year, including PvP system, dungeons, quests, DX10 and more. Pretty good deal, you don't have to pay anything, and you get a chance to try out what they should've had in the launch.
I suggest doing so. Its a whole different game now even though the DX10 kills my fps from 60 to like 20-30 :((
Well, I'm downloading 11gigs of client atm. Might get a friend to retry with me too.
Damn, I might try this, but I don't envy reinstalling the game and dling 10gb worth of patches.
Humm I might just do this. Age of conan was a fun and unique game. But when lvl 40 or 50 hit it was boring and I quit. Maybe they might change my mind.
I kind of want to try this game. But I never had an active account.. [editline]09:20PM[/editline] They should just put out a trial for everyone to try, not just previously registered accounts..

If you have a current level 50, you can make only ONE other character that begins at level 50 of your choice.
I thought you can't do that anymore?
[QUOTE=JerryK;15935551]I thought you can't do that anymore?[/QUOTE] The level 50 thing? Dunno it might have expired. Had a friend do it yesterday though
YAY FUCKING YES!!!! Everyone playing at Crom, add Zalador or Zaladorarch! :D Free 2 weeks! awesome!
I've received it too, i think i'm going to reactivate. AOC is/was a great game a year ago but all the bugs really killed the fun so hopefully it's the game i expected it to be back then.
Lags too much for me to play. :(
Hm, I played on launch, and it was really... not great. Once you left Tortage, the game went to shit really. May try this though.
Reactivated, still sucks. 5 second lag spikes every 6 seconds while pvping.
I used to have it, link? [editline]08:59AM[/editline] [QUOTE=KrAzY_nikomo;15959178]Reactivated, still sucks. 5 second lag spikes every 6 seconds while pvping.[/QUOTE] Thats just you because when I played, I had no problems other than a game that didn't live to the hype. Was still a really good game though.
I loved the game, levels 1-20 was the best MMO experience I've ever had! I can't remember why I left so I'm downloading now and giving it another shot.

Especially once you got out on the island and got to start wrecking people who were fighting mobs and other people.
I remember I made a HoX, got him to level 11, and started pwnin people at that white sand island, I would own level 15-16s and stuff. [editline]06:30PM[/editline] and ganking people with my level 25 assassin was fun, there was a clan for level 25s who would always camp white sand and I would destroy em all. I remember my bear shaman, topped DPS always ;) I had good memories of that game, but like most MMO's I get bored eventually.
The gear you start with for the free 50 is so shitty. [editline]01:17AM[/editline] They really optimized this game a lot. I can now turn on the grass and my FPS doesn't get raped, I usually get 25-30 FPS on medium/low with a 7900 GS. It looks good and it runs nice.
I played this back on my old comp, I could only play it on medium with lots of things turned off. With my old comp I am running this like a dream.

With my rig I run it maxed (with some of the sliders for distance turned down of course...) but DX10 is where the trouble comes in for me.. I go from 60-80 fps, down to like 19-30 but it looks nice :(
AoC is pretty awwright, but that's all I can say, really. I'm playing on Set (US) with a friend, and it's just kinda... boring. I'm playing a Dark Templar, my friend is a Bear Shaman. He seems to like it a lot more than I do. I kinda agree that the game was way better before leaving Tortage. At the same time though, I'm finding out you level pretty quick. So that's good.
it's a pretty good game just not worth all the fucking space it consumes on my hard drive
I hate how they said that you could go out in the wilderness and build a city, and have AI armies fight for and against your city. Damn, the way I envisioned AoC made it seem like the perfect game.
Good to see the game is rising from the ashes. It was a good game, with an interesting storyline and lot of potentional, it was just so....empty and unfinished in the endgame when I got there back in the days I played it.
I'm thinking about trying this again, worth reviving my old 60 guardian, any content actually worth doing post 60 now?...
They no longer allow you to make the seven day trial. What a bummer. According to the website they temporarily blocked the registration of new trial accounts for the reevaluation promotional deal. I must've made my trial the day before the deal started, but it took me four full days to download the game. Their download manager was just awful. It started at a steady 500-600 kb/s, but after fifteen or twenty minutes it would drop to about 50 kb/s and I'd have to pause it, restart the download manager, and resume. By the time AOC was done with it's whopping download, my trial was about over. I didn't even make it off Tortage before it expired, and now I feel like I got gipped out of four days of play. Curses. On the bright side, my barbarian chick had a fine-ass booty.
I know how you feel. It is taking me 63 estimated hours at 60kb/s to download the game.

This only took me like 10 minutes to install and get into game. Well thats an exaggeration maybe half an hourish. But yeah do that, it has all the content you need till 20 for the trial. Then if you want to play the full game, you just hit patch full game and wallah!
