You might know Ark System Works for their other fighting game series: Guilty Gear. Like Guilty Gear, Blazblue has an extensive plot with very unique characters and locals. Blazblue also has Guilty Gear's Head composer, so blazblu also has the awesome rock/metal/classical music that was in Guilty Gear. Gameplay: Blazblue is mostly your average arcade fighting game. Each character has a light, medium, and heavy attack. The difference is that each character has their own drive attack. Drive attacks change the whole style of the character completely. For example: one character uses his drive to put up a shield that automatically counters someone's attack. Another uses it to do special attacks that adsorb some of the other player's health. Ill get into more detail down in the thread. There are 6 modes as of now. Training, Score Attack, challenge (combo challenges), and arcade mode are the basic run of the mill game modes for fighting games. in Continuum shift one the introduced Legion mode that had a strategy element as you build your army of characters and take over the board. Then Abyss mode was introduced in CS2 and EXTEND which is kinda like Soul Calibur 4's tower mode where you gain money in other game modes and use that to power up one of your characters to go down a tower fighting stronger and stronger enemies. Synopsis: Humanity was on the verge of extinction from a creature called the "Black Beast." The world was saved by six heroes who wielded magic. They helped humanity create "Ars Magus", a fusion of magic and science, to defeat the Black Beast. This event would be later known as the First War of Magic. After the war, the Novus Orbis Librarium (the Library or NOL for short) was created to govern the world with the use of Ars Magus. A great deal of dissent was caused by the Library, partly due to Ars Magus' use in nearly every facet of society, and the widening socioeconomic gap between those who could and couldn't use Ars Magus. This dissent would eventually form years later into the Second War of Magic or also known as the Ikaruga Civil War, when the city of Ikaruga openly rebelled against the NOL. Upon winning the war, the NOL imposed a harsher rule on the world, punishing any rebellion against the NOL with death. In December A.D. 2199, several years after the Second War of Magic, a branch of the NOL was utterly destroyed by an SS-class rebel named "Ragna" also known as the "Grim Reaper", in an attempt to destroy the Librarium. The NOL, hoping to stop him, immediately announced the largest bounty ever, available to anyone who could capture him. Interestingly, Ragna possesses a powerful form of Ars Magus known as the "Azure Grimoire". This led the NOL, as well as the other fighters, to hunt Ragna not just for his bounty, but also his Azure Grimoire. It was released for PS3, xbox360, and PSP. Blazblue: Continuum Shift It is the second in the series, it was launched on xbox360 and Ps3.
The game is set after the events of Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. A few days have passed since the reported raid by the silver-haired Ragna the Bloodedge, The 13th Hierarchical City "Kagutsuchi" forgets to celebrate New Years, as his alleged involvement in the "Mysterious Bombing" and "Huge Pentacle Sightings" becomes the talk of the town. With the Novus Orbis Librarium offering no official explanation, the citizens voice their own theories, exaggerating and spreading rumors like wildfire. Ragna's name is engraved in the minds of the people. Completely indifferent to the state of the city, the man grips his massive sword and quietly bides his time—waiting for the chance to achieve his true objective. And then, the enormous "power" that has ensnared Ragna begins to activate...
Blazblue: Continum Shift 2 It is still the second game in the series, but unlocked the DLC characters in CS1 and buffed/nerfed some character's stats. This one was only launched on the PSP and 3DS. it also added a new abyss mode to play in. Blazblue: Continum Shift EXTEND It is still the second game in the series, but unlocked the DLC characters in CS1 and buffed/nerfed some character's stats. This was launched for the Xbox360 and PS3, it also contained abyss mode that was in the portable version. This also has the new character: Relius Clover [/release] Playable Characters: [release] Ragna The Bloodedge Ragna the Bloodedge is a wanted criminal with an extraordinarily large bounty on his head (well in the trillions) for attempting to destroy the Novus Orbis Librarium, and is Jin and Saya's older brother. He is a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift and is the main protagonist of the series. Playstyle: Ragna is the standard-issue all-around character who is easy to use and has basic, but effective bread-and-butter combos. Unlike most main characters, Ragna does not use projectiles for range, and has an aggressive, melee-rushdown oriented playstyle. He is all about forcing his way through the opponent's guard by any means necessary, and bringing the pain with high-damage, long combos. Because of this, he can often experience difficulty with characters that excel at zoning.[/release] [release] Jin Kisaragi Jin Kisaragi is a Major and 4th Thaumaturgist Squadron Commander of the Novus Orbis Librarium, and Ragna and Saya's brother. He is a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Jin also serves as the rival character of the series. Playstyle: Simply to put it, Jin specializes in zoning with his projectiles, and shining pressure options. Though unlike Ragna, he's not exactly considered rushdown but sports powerful combos thanks to his invalid freeze options. Jin also sports good-to-excellent pokes, and is the only character to have EX special moves, so he relies on having a lot of heat to benefit from their additional properties (extra damage, extra invinciblity, etc.)[/release] [release] Noel Vermillion Noel Vermillion is a lieutenant of the Novus Orbis Librarium who is assigned to return the AWOL Jin Kisaragi to his post, and a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Noel also serves as the main heroine of the series. Playstyle: Noel's Drive, Chain Revolver, is extremely spammable and may even seem cheap at low levels of play, it is in fact fairly unsafe and demands that any player seeking to use Noel competitively become familiar with her move properties. Although Noel is fairly fast and has good range, she has nothing that actually combos out of most of her pokes on a standing opponent, and most of the moves that do combo are either fairly situational or have slow startup. When she does land a solid hit, however, Noel is capable of extremely high-damage combos. [/release] [release] Hazama Hazama is a captain of the Novus Orbis Librarium's Intelligence Department. In reality, he is Yūki Terumi, the main antagonist in BlazBlue. hes playable only in continuum shift. playstyle: Hazama can be a tricky-to-use character with a unique playstyle. Although his chains and slow speed are well-suited for a zoning character, he excels particularly well up-close, where he can make use of his numerous mixup options and okizeme options. Unlike Hakumen, Carl, and Arakune, his "hop dash" is grounded and can be canceled at any time with normals, specials, or barrier, improving his short-range movement options. It should also be noted that Hazama has one of the de facto best meter gain rates in the game, as almost all of his combos go into multiple j.Cs, which builds meter extremely quickly. It is not uncommon for a good Hazama player to always have at least 50% meter, making Serpent's Infernal Rapture a constant threat due to its fatal counter property.[/release] [release]Rachel Alucard Rachel Alucard is the current head of the Alucard family, and a very powerful being. Rachel behaves like a stereotypical upper-class individual, often looking down upon others with boredom, arrogance, snobbery and apathy, and hates her vampire urges. She is Ragna's somewhat friend and guardian, and Hakumen's somewhat master. She is playable in continuum shift and trigger Playstyle: Rachel Alucard is a character specializing in using ranged weapons. Her normal attacks are short and not very good for close range fighting. Her Drive, Silpheed, has the ability to control the direction of the wind which can effect the range of her weapons and can effect her opponents. She can move around all her projectile weapons including cannon artillery, frog, and pumpkin. These projectiles along with her lighting rods are used to hit and force the enemy into blocking. When the lightning rods activate, they can hit her enemies. These tools can help her keep opponents in their place and the lightning rods can catch them off guard. One use of the wind requires 1/4 of the wind gauge, meaning you can only use 4 winds in a row. Once you use up all of it you have to wait for it to recover while standing on the ground. The gauge refills 1/4 of its stock every 3 seconds.[/release] [release]Hakumen Hakumen is one of the Six Heroes, and a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. He believes in purging the world of darkness and evil and seeks justice. Playstyle: Hakumen is a character with large normals which most on hits and counterhits can lead to big damage. Hakumen benefits from instant blocking more than any other character, as he gains 1/3 of a magatama per instant block. He can special cancel his specials, allowing for unique combos and setups. His sword moves have projectile autoguard during their active frames and give you a magatama per projectile autoguarded. He also has an insane air dash which covers most of the screen. Hakumen's Drive: Zanshin serves as his ability to counter his opponents attack. If performed at the right moment, your opponent's attack will be negated, and Hakumen will retaliate. Does not work against throws. If used against projectiles, the counter will catch the projectile and the retaliatory attack will come out, but unless the opponent is near Hakumen, the opponent will not be damaged. [/release] [release]Taokaka Taokaka is a respected warrior of the Kaka clan, and is attempting to apprehend Ragna the Bloodedge (although she befriends Ragna and calls him "good guy" because she doesnt know that they are the same person because she is not that bright) and use the bounty to secure a new home-land for the Kaka, and is a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Playstyle: Taokaka's triple jump allows her to drive command cancel twice in the air. This paves the way for numerous cross-ups, mix-ups, and surprising gimmicks. Like Bang, she can air dash twice in the air. Her average damage output rivals Ragna's and Nu's (3k - 4.5k). She has the lowest gaurd libra rating in the game, 80%. This means that it's easy to guard crush Tao. For example, two full pressure strings from Ragna will cause her to guard break. Tao has no good anti-air and reversal options. The only exception is her Hexa Edge, but that requires 50% meter. Tao lacks the necessary tools for zoning. Characters that excel at mid-range to long-range work against her.[/release] [release]Litchi Faye-Ling Litchi Faye-Ling is a renowned doctor living in Orient Town, located in 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi. She is currently trying to find a way to cure Arakune and return him back to human form. She is playable in both continuum trigger and shift Playstyle: Litchi is a mad queen of cross-ups, with many moves that focus on hitting from left and right in a flanking fashion with herself attacking as well as her staff flying all around the place. With this, she sports many powerful combos to brutally whittle her foes' HP to nothing. But she is rather hard to pick up and is not meant for beginners. And she is rather execution heavy, often sporting strict timings on her combos.[/release] [release]Arakune Arakune is a black, blob-like creature that formally worked as a human with Litchi, Tager, and Kokonoe. he is a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Playstyle: Arakune's Drive is Crimson, which allows him to Curse his opponents by striking them with either a vapor he fumes out or by calling minions. In Calamity Trigger, he only needed to strike his opponent once but in Continuum Shift, he has to fill up the gauge in order for it to work. Once fully Cursed, Arakune can summon a legion of small vermin-based creatures to swarm his opponents from all sides, making him nigh-untouchable in the hands of a proficient player.[/release] [release]Iron Tager Iron Tager is a Sector Seven professor who has been mechanically enhanced to perform field-work, and is a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Playstyle: In battle, Tager is noticeably the slowest character in the game and unable to dash, but makes up for that in power and defense. However, when close, his great power allows him to inflict great damage by tossing his opponents around effortlessly. His gauntlets are also surprisingly complex machinery. In addition to short ranged bursts, they can act as electronic magnets. With this, Tager can magnetize and draw in opponents toward him instead of having to pursue them.[/release] [release]Carl Clover Carl Clover (son of Relius Clover) is a young vigilante who dropped out of the Military Academy and a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Playstyle: Carl is a character who works in tandem with his sister Ada/Nirvana to confuse and pressure the opponent with unblockables and such. Once an exploitable opening presents itself, it can and often will lead to lengthy and unbelievably high-damage combos. Carl also has a smaller hitbox causing characters to use specific combos against Carl.[/release] [release]Lambda-11 Lambda-11 is a playable character in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. She was repaired and recovered by Kokonoe and is now mostly under her control as a robot. Playstyle: Although Lambda retains mostly the same basic playstyle as her predecessor, Nu, she has been toned down considerably and is no longer as overpowering as she was in the original game. While she can still effectively zone with her swords and make approaching difficult, they are a fair bit slower and no longer capable of shutting the opponent out even on block. In comparison to Nu, Lambda has quite a few more close range options at her disposal, namely her Act Parser moves allowing her to get in and out of trouble and rack up some serious damage. Her overwhelming damage potential has also been toned down but Lambda is still perfectly capable of pulling off devastatingly damaging combos due to Continuum Shift's changes. Lambda has been classified as solidly B tier through CS1 and CS2, down from her previous ranking in S tier as Nu.[/release] [release]Tsubaki Yayoi Tsubaki Yayoi is Jin Kisaragi's childhood friend, Noel Vermillion's former roommate from the Military Academy, and a member of the not official Novus Orbis Librarium's Zero Squadron. She was also very close to Jin and has feelings for him. She is a playable character in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. Playstyle: Tsubaki's fighting style is an interesting interpretation of the standard "sword and shield" style of traditional Western swordplay, where her oddly shaped, floating book acts as a small buckler shield. Tsubaki's short sword is capable of adopting a variety of shapes, sometimes as appearing as a fencing foil, a whip sword, a floating claymore or even a staff. Her book, similarly, can change its form. Lights and angelic imagery feature prominently in Tsubaki's fighting style, such as wings and feathers appearing around her for various attacks. Because of how her drive works, her style is punctuated by moments of gathering light energy before rushing down opponents with long protracted combination attacks.[/release] [release]Makoto Nanaya Makoto Nanaya is a former classmate of Tsubaki, Carl, Noel, and Jin from the Military Academy. She is playable as DLC in Continuum shift 1, but is available in 2 and extended. Playstyle: Makoto is a short range rush down character for those who favor offense. Makoto's drive, "Impact" is chargable up to three stages, but timing is important as waiting too long will weaken the attacks, sending them back to stage 2 and 1 respectively. At maximum charge it dishes out higher damage as well as wall bounce properties and/or prolonging the opponents recovery time, opening up combo options. Several of her moves are rather decieving as well. Her special "Asteroid Vision" makes three images of her as she rushes towards her opponent which can be canceled to a dead halt, appear behind the opponent or to attack. Her normal attacks can be sly as well. For example, one of her attack causes her to spin on the ground feinting for a sweep a couple times before the actual kick.[/release] [release]Valkenhayn R. Hellsing Valkenhayn R. Hellsing is Rachel's elderly butler and trusted adviser who has served the Alucard family line for generations. He is playable in CS1 as DLC, but is available in 2 and extended for free. Playstyle: Being one of the Six Heroes, Valkenhayn possesses exceptional skill and power on the battlefield. His gentlemen-like behavior and profession as a butler belies a much more savage side that appears to have aged well with him. Valkenhayn fights with brute strength and incredible speed, unleashing swift kicks and claw-like attacks. Valkenhayn's Drive, Werewolf focuses on his mastery over lycanthropy, allowing him to transform partially, halfway or fully into a beast wolf form to tear his opponents to shreds unrestrained. A small purple gauge right above his Drive gauge determines how long he can stay in wolf form, automatically returning to normal once it runs out. The gauge regenerates when he is in human form but only when he is on the ground. When in wolf form, after Valkenhayn uses his command throw, the gauge fully regenerates and reverts him back to human form. Valkenhayn can morph between forms at will to take advantage of both for some devastating combo strings. While he gains incredible agility and speed, he is unable to block in this form.[/release] [release]Platinum the Trinity Platinum the Trinity first appears in the story-mode of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. She is a girl who has three souls, including the spirit of one of the Six Heroes. She is playable as DLC in CS1, but is available in 2 and extended for free. Playstyle: Platinum could be the most broken character in the game, most likely due to being DLC, easily being able to deal 4k to 5k in 14 hit combos and the majority of these combos can be started fairly easily while her distortion and astral are easy to get into. To be able use Platinum however requires luck and memory, the former because her drive randomly summons a magical weapon (which can help extend or start combos) and the latter because these combos have multiple endings for certain characters and magical weapons. Overall she is a character that works great in cornering and could be classed in the same league as Bang, Litchi and Valkenhayn due to her attack damage and speed.*[/release] [release]Bang Shishigami Bang Shishigami is a Ninja, and a playable character in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. After losing his home in the Ikaruga Civil War and his master Tenjō at the hands of Jin Kisaragi, Bang and his followers began living in Kagutsuchi waiting for the right moment to strike back at Jin and the NOL. There, he declares himself a hero of love and justice and dedicates himself to exterminating evil and overturning injustice wherever he goes. Playstyle: Being a ninja, Bang seems to share many similar traits in his powers and fighting style. First of all, Bang is a speedy and agile character, and demonstrates an uncanny ability to maneuver through the air as if utilizing invisible platforms. He also bears a decent command of hand-to-hand combat (Taijutsu), and can seriously harm foes with punishing grab-combos and a fiery defensive "guardpoint or autoguard" drive (Bang automatically blocks attacks while performing his Drive attacks, similar to a counter, although unlike a counter they are not dependent on being hit). Unique to Bang is his assortment of nails, referred to as "Bang-Style Shurikens", and he has a variety of nails for different effects. Some nails will explode, some afflict a poisoned status, some unleash a spray of webs to trap the foe, and still others can rebound off of surfaces, making them more difficult to avoid.[/release] [release]Mu-12 SPOILER ALERT if you haven't beaten continuum shift [sp]Mu-12 is the true form of Noel Vermillion after fusing with the True Azure through Terumi's ambitions to destroy the Master Unit Amaterasu using the sword, Kusanagi, and erase the world from its existence. Due to his influence, she believes that the world (which "hates her") is filled with nothing but lies. Ragna fights and defeats her by waking Noel's mind, but sacrifices his left arm in the process.[/sp] She is only playable in continuum shift. Playstyle: Mu, like Lambda, is a glass cannon with low defense, but terrifying offensive potential with her Drive projectiles. Unlike Lambda, who uses her projectiles for zoning, Mu's projectiles are suited for locking down the opponent and creating dangerous unblockable traps. Those familiar with Guilty Gear will find her overall playstyle similar to Testament and Dizzy. Her Drive, Steins Gunner, summons a small orb at a set location depending on the direction used with the Drive button. Once these are out, you can begin your battle plan. The way you set up your Drives can mean life or death when it comes to Mu. You can choose to either fall back and lure your opponent in with your various assets (no, not those), or go charging in to lock them down with projectile mixup.[/release] [release]Relius Clover Relius Clover is Carl and Ada's father, and Ignis' husband. He is a playable character in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND Playstyle Relius is much like his son with relying on his robot to help him in devastating combos that can wreck havoc on the enemy's health, but he is unique that every enemy has a different astral finish.[/release] Media [release] Extend Trailer: (sorry its not English, i cant find an English version) Gameplay: [/release] Here is the wiki if you want more in depth character bios or help with the plot, or strategies for characters: http://blazblue.wikia.com/wiki/BlazBlue_Wiki Ill be sure to update the thread with any information that anyone wants added.
You have to PM a mod for a title change, and you spelt it wrong all through the entire top paragraphs. Played the first one a lot, fun game, but I never got into it for some reason. I enjoyed it more than SF4.
