when i tryed to update call of duty to the 4th patch it told me that it could not find a valid installation but all the other patches installed fine what is the prob please help me

Check your registry.
I had an issue where it said it wasn't on the right version. It said 1.4 on the menu, but 1.3 in the registry and wouldn't update.
