• Battlefield 2 DRM?

I'm planning on buying Battlefield 2 since it is only 10 dollars at my local store, but since it involves EA in it I'm skeptical that it may have some kind of DRM in it. Also, will it make me sign up for anything like spore does? I really don't want to make a username and password. Thanks for helping in advance.
It's just a disc and CD key check man. If you download the 1.5 beta patch the CD check is removed.
And after that, download project reality.

I've un-installed and re-installed the game plenty of times. No DRM to be seen. Possibly the only thing EA got right :v:

Battlefield 2 doesn't have any DRM as far as I know. It just has a simple CD checker. The Battlefield 2 1.5 Beta patch removes the CD check, however since it's a beta there aren't many servers so I'd recommend just sticking with the latest non-beta patch (until 1.5 officially is released).
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm definitely getting this game now knowing I'm not being scammed.
And after that, download project reality.
I looked it up and from what I've read and seen, it looks pretty neat to me. Any overall opinions on this game or any tips at all? [not talking about project reality]

It's pretty simple to learn, however if you don't know how to play and you get into a multiplayer match, there are usually a lot of players who are pretty experienced and won't give you much of a chance to learn. Take advantage of the singleplayer levels to familiarize yourself with the game before jumping into multiplayer. Join squads when you can, you'll be able to spawn near your squad leader (rather than at the standard spawn points) if you do. Probably the best class to start using during multiplayer is the medic. You can rack up a lot of points by reviving teammates, and you'll always have a medkit with you to heal yourself if you get shot - you'll last a lot longer that way. Anti-tank is another great class to use as you'll be encountering a lot of vehicles to use the rocket on.
Get in a jeep, run over people, drive round and round tanks, hilarity ensues
Thanks for the long detailed post, nylock. I'll keep all you said in mind. Now I'm just wondering how it would perform on my machine. I'm in no position to post all my computer stats right now, but this is coming from someone who gets 20-50 fps on L4D on max graphics and resolution. I'm sure I'll do fine since this game is four years old, but it's so detailed and large I can't be for sure.

DRM in games didn't exist back when BF2 came out.

You should be fine. If you experience any stuttering (it usually happens under Vista/Windows 7) turn the textures down to Medium.
Alright, hopefully this is my last post here. I heard one of the downfalls of the game was the pain in the ass server lobby system. Is it hard to find a decent server? And is the game hard to get into when you are a beginner?
Just join servers play for a bit and join on the mic. If the people are good stay and have fun. Now I really want to get Bf2 borrowed it from my friend years ago for like a week.
No DRM as far as I'm concerned except for a CD check. CD checks are the reason I never play half of my games any more: It's too much work to put a CD in when I could just play L4D on Steam. Hooray for no more CD check, but I hope they do that with 2142 also!
(If you don't want to jump right in the game and have fun.)
You call being nadespammed fun? Project Reality and some other less popular mods are the only fun left in BF2. If you don't like Project Reality, try Operation Peacekeeper and Point of Existence.

Pronewhoring. get raped by jets. wait on a carrier for a jet or a helicopter but watch someone take it because they have a enter vehicle macro. Unbalanced as shit.
Reviving old threads is the last thing I like to do, but people still play this game, right? I hope it isn't one of those games on the verge of death with only a couple of good active servers online. And I guess I'll be the judge of nade-spamming, team-killing, whatever when I get the game. What are the main differences between vanilla TF2 and Project Reality anyway?
I still play, but mainly the mods Point of Existence and Project Reality, I do find it hilarious though how people get so bent out of shape about dying in Project Reality, I just stick with a good sniper team and act as a spotter.
