Let's discuss an awesome series. The History
Animal Crossing, known as Dōbutsu no Mori (どうぶつの森?, lit. "Animal Forest") in Japan, is a life simulation video game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan for the Nintendo 64 on April 14, 2001. Due to limited sales because of the decreasing N64 market, the game was not released for the N64 outside Japan. Dōbutsu no Mori+, the Nintendo GameCube version of Dōbutsu no Mori, was released on December 14, 2001, eight months after the original game. This version contains extra features that had to be left out in the Nintendo 64 version, and also uses the GameCube's built-in clock to keep track of the date and time. The Nintendo 64 version uses a clock inside the game cartridge. With the use of the GameCube's clock, the passing of time affects the game, even between play sessions. This led to the game's slogan, "the real life game that's playing, even when you're not." Dōbutsu no Mori+ cost 7,140 yen and sold 92,568 copies during its first week of sale in Japan.[2][3] When Nintendo decided to port Dōbutsu no Mori to the Nintendo GameCube, the American version, Animal Crossing, had much more text than the Japanese version, Dōbutsu no Mori+, in part because of the immense translation that Nintendo undertook when translating Dōbutsu no Mori from Japanese to English. Not only did thousands of lines of text have to be translated, but translators Nate Bihldorff and Rich Amtower had to create new holidays and items. Nintendo Japan was so impressed with the results of the translation done by Nintendo of America's Treehouse division that they translated NOA's version back into Japanese and released it as Dōbutsu no Mori e+. Dōbutsu no Mori e+ was released in Japan on June 27, 2003, and sold 91,658 copies during its first week of sale.
The Games NO IMAGE AS OF YET Dobutsu no Mori (a.k.a. Animal Forest) [N64] Read The History for information Animal Crossing [GC] The amazing debut of this amazing series on an amazing platform. Live your life the way you want. You start off in a train, on your own. You've moved away from home to a far away town (which you get to name!) and the first friend you make is a lovable cat named Rover. Talking to Rover and answering questions will actually decide what your face will look like. The gameplay moves at its own pace from then on. Dig up fossils, catch bugs, and fish all at your leisure. Easily the best game in the series due to all the details and features. Next to the stuff in Gamecube, we have even more details added. Hats, glasses, and dozens of other accessories have been introduced. Not only that, but now there's even multiplayer! Two people in one town, AT THE SAME TIME. FDSFGS. Unfortunately, due to the DS the game has been a little flattened out, with some fun little details which made the original full of surprises, removed. Literally, in the case of the towns (no more hills, etc). Animal Crossing: City Folk [Wii] Not too much to say about this one. Retains almost all of the stuff that made the last games addictive on the Wii. Sadly, the game seems a lot like Wild World, if not a console remake with upgrades. Disappointing, however it brings back a few things from the original. Unveiled at E3 '10, this new handheld Animal Crossing will not only look better than the Wii version, it's going to most likely surpass it in every way. According to various sources, you play as the mayor of the town, and your role is to help the town become better apparently. New features include: taller characters, the beach extends to the side of the towns, a graphical overhaul, more details in the towns, and much more. I'm definitely getting the 3DS and this title when it releases. My personal opinion? The 3DS is going to hand everyone's asses to them.
I enjoyed this when I was younger but now I look back and note how childish it is.
I enjoyed this when I was younger but now I look back and note how childish it is.
It's fucking manly
Tom Nook is actually mayor of the town.
Tom Nook is actually mayor of the town.
And a cheap stingy asshole.
This game made no sense at times. I found a fossil and then a shell on the same fucking block. And no nook, I will not pay off my mortgage.
"give me all the money you have. HAHAHA you're so fucking poor, now work for me slave. you're done? go home and sell shit so you can pay me back"
I used to play the original a lot when it first came out. Great game to play around with for a week or 2, creating your dream town and house. However, of all the things I remember about that game this small fact is the most noted and vivid: Tom Nook is a fucking slave driver and professional troll.
Anyone excited for the 3DS?
Anyone excited for the 3DS?
I am. But not for Animal Crossing.
I started playing again today and I still find it funny how all the people in the town are extremely shocked for not seeing me in about a year.
I haven't touched my Gamecube town in years. At least 5 or more. I'm afraid to find what horrors were left in my wake. Or how much weed, roaches, and garbage are left around town.

I've gone through three phases of playing Wild World for around 3 months a piece. Most recent was this past July-September. I actually posted in the old thread back then, I'm sure I could dig it up if I look through my posts. I like the series but I just wish there was more to do. I only played Wild World but I've always felt there wasn't enough content. The upcoming game better be PACKED with new stuff that will keep me playing for awhile, because they know how to make the game addicting - just keep improving that formula with new things and I'll be hooked.

I remember back when I was an immature 12 year old, I named a town nazi germany, made the citizens say zeig heil, and made a swastika as the town flag. seriously true story.
I remember back when I was an immature 12 year old, I named a town nazi germany, made the citizens say zeig heil, and made a swastika as the town flag. seriously true story.
Oh you...

I used to love messing with the town tunes, turning them into riffs from my favorite songs
I remember being awesome at making tunes. Now I suck ass at it
I had a shit-ton of things in city folk, then my wii wanted to go suicide bomb and exploded, literally, now I dont want to play it anymore, I had so many shit even fucking streets, an inn a restaurant and more shit that got lost...
Scratch my last comment. I just booted up my emulator (read: i own the game, therefore I reserve the right to have a backup/rom) and I went to look for Wisp but I gave up. I got bored and went to go make a tune and I did Elegy of Emptiness just listening to the song.
Shit I love this game so much.

Sorry to burst your bubble but i think V1 was already made, so this is V2. [editline]13th January 2011[/editline] But i do love this game, got it on 3 consoles, never playing the gamecube version again (Got motion sickness)
Tom Nook is the most malicious video game villain I know of.
Sometimes I fire up Animal Crossing just because I want to play some Punch-out or Balloon Fight.
I might buy a gamecube just for this and mario kart
Animal Crossing is a good series, though I've never owned one of the games, I've borrowed the DS and Gamecube ones from friends, they get boring after a while though. I'd like to get the 3DS version, maybe it will be more then a rehash like the DS one was.
