Would there be any downside to putting Starcraft on a flash drive?

Thread title.
It may contain a virus and it will transport onto your flash drive.
Don't do it.
no, I think I have done it before and it works just as well as throwing it on your harddrive.
No. I'm not exactly sure it will run if you install it direct though. It might have some dependencies so you have to do it right, but I'm not exactly sure if it does or not.
I do know for a fact that if done correctly it will run off a flash drive (friends play in class all the time).

You boulder, you'll be thanking me when you don't get a virus.
The only downside that I can think of would be a slight loss of performance, since there's data constantly transferred from the stick which, by my understanding, is quite slow to move data in.
Also, I could be completely wrong and making myself look like a fool. Meh.
Almost none.
I have StarCraft on my flash drive.
In fact we used it to play LAN games at school. :v:
The only problem I've experienced is that I needed to construct additional pylons to power my flash drive.
Other than that, it doesn't make a difference whether you run a program off your HDD, off a flash drive, or even off a disk if it's fully extracted. Although it'll take longer to load depending on how fast your USB port transfer rate is, that doesn't matter at all so why am I talking about it.

This, but the rate should be fast enough not to cause lag.

I think that gets shunted into memory anyway, at least the executable.
If you can, drag the folder on the computer. It'll increase your performance and save wear and tear on the flash drive.
I had a DVD with an install of SC and WC3 on it. I moved then to the system's hard drive and played that way. I even set up a LAN game right there in school with just that disk.
I have Sshock and Sshock 2 backed up onto a flash drive and they work fine, idk why starcraft wont.
the internet police will arrest you for it

[/QUOTE]That's how I was going to do it. I just wanted to keep a backup on the flashdrive

You probably don't have no-cd crack for it. Far be it from me to talk about warez but if you want to do it like that that is your only choice.
Don't think so, I play starcraft at school all the time with a flash drive.

This. Along with CS:S and WCIII. It plays fine minus the crap pc's that most schools have.
Flash drives aren't supposed to be read or written to constantly which may result in a reduced life time, but eh, they're cheap.

it's not warez when i took them off my BOUGHT cd's, garage sales are my fav place to find things that are old and fun, lol.
the only downside that I can see is that it would take a while to transfer the files from the flash drive to the computer that you would be connecting it to to play. Otherwise, it is a great idea.
Koreans will try to steal your flash drive.
