:shlick:AWW SHIT GOOD INDIE GAME ALERT:shlick: Temporary banner until we can get a good, official one. DOWNLOAD LINK TO THE ACTUAL SPELUNKY: http://spelunkyworld.com/original.html What is Spelunky? Spelunky is an action adventure indie game that draws from older games like Spelunker for the Atari. It revolves around you, the unknown player (though some call him Spelunky) going through caves, collecting precious loot and killing baddies like skeletons, aliens, bats, and even cavemen! How is the gameplay? Spelunky is a side scrolling platformer. Every level is randomly generated and has different events going on within it. Using your trusty whip, you can fend off these enemies. There are lots of traps, such as giant rolling boulders (think Indiana Jones!), spikes, and sometimes enemies like to hide in the things you pick up! You can even rescue damsels, who will reward you with a kiss which can up your health by one each time. Whatever gold you earn in-game can be used to buy upgrades and new items to help you out and make things easier. What about weapons? Items? Aside from your whip, you are given a rope and bombs. Bombs can be used to blow up rocks which contain gold and like I said before, can be spent on items and upgrades. A few upgrades are sticky bombs, which stick to ANY surface on contact; a pistol, a bow and arrow, parachutes, climbing gear... the list goes on! Any mods? I'm glad you asked! There are many mods out there which you can find on their website forums and amongst the internet. However, I'm gonna post one of the BETTER modifications out there:
Yet Another Spelunky Mod (YASM) v1.5 Some of the features include: - Inventory system. Put away items for later use. - You can sell your unwanted items and worn equipment to shopkeepers. - You don't drop items when doing a flip hang. - When wearing spring shoes, you can fall 50% longer before taking damage. - You can increase the amount of traps or enemies generated in levels. - Support for playing custom levels made with Editor Plus. - Magic Signs 2.0 - Customize length of time before ghost appears. - You can hold UP to fire the bow upwards. - Fixes for many v1.1 bugs. Most of the features can be turned on/off or otherwise adjusted to your taste by editing the included settings file. Detailed instructions for using the inventory and selling items are in the readme file, but here is a quick rundown: - Press SWITCH while holding DOWN to place your currently held item into your inventory. - Press SWITCH any other time to cycle through all your items. - In the pause screen, move the selection box over an item and press ATTACK to take it out. Press ATTACK on a piece of worn equipment to un-equip/re-equip it. - Press PURCHASE to try to sell your currently held item to a shopkeeper. If he makes an offer, press PURCHASE again to accept. - Remove a piece of worn equipment by pressing PURCHASE on it from the pause screen. You can then sell it like any other item. - Shopkeepers have a limited amount of money. If a shopkeeper can't afford to buy your goods, consider purchasing something from his shop so he has more to spend. TELL ME MORE! Since September of last year, and much after the source code for Spelunky was released, the development of Spelunky for the XBLA had begun! The game will feature new things, such as game modes, hand-drawn (and much higher quality) graphics, dynamic lighting, new sounds and NEW MUSIC[b/]. The release for the game has not yet been announced, and the game is still in development. But look out for Spelunky sometime in 2011! Here is a few eyecandy for you as well (due to the size of each image, I have media tagged them). Might download tomorrow, looks pretty cool.
I've loved Spelunky since its release. Loooooved iiiiiit.
I've loved Spelunky since its release. Loooooved iiiiiit.
I've actually just started playing Spelunky yesterday. I'm hooked. I can barely make it past level 3, but it's oh so much fun just to die and start over again. Probably one of the better indie games I have played in awhile.
Looks like its changed quite a bit since I last played it. :v: Awesome game though. I beat it but I don't remember how many times I died.
Great game, got my friend into it recently. I beat it several times and even got to the City of Gold a couple of times too. Took about 300 deaths to get that. If you want to be SUPER PRO, try ghost running. When ghosts pass over gems it turns them into diamonds, which are just as valuble (if not more) than idols. So what you do it make it so the ghost spawns, and lure him over all the gems in the level, then collect them... all while trying to avoid getting hit by the ghost.

I've always been confused about that. I normally panic and try to find the exit as fast as I can when I see that.
No mention of Spelunky HD?
Fucking SPIDERS.
This game is great with a gamepad.
No mention of Spelunky HD?
Damn, I forgot that! I'll add that in tomorrow!
This game is so much fucking fun with the co-op mod. Seriously.
Updated the OP with information regarding Spelunky XBLA (HD). Thank you, tomahawk, for the reminder.
This game is so much fucking fun with the co-op mod. Seriously.
Holy shit a coop mod? Amazing, going to def have to download this. Is it over the internet or local only?
Spelunky HD better fucking come to the PC.
I managed to beat this game when i managed to get INSANELY lucky and found a jet pack in the crate right next to my spawn in world 1-1. Also I don't really like the new art style, I just really loved the retro feel of the graphics in the first one.
Holy shit a coop mod? Amazing, going to def have to download this. Is it over the internet or local only?
I believe there is both online and local, but I only ever used local. It's one of those games where sharing a keyboard really isn't bad at all. I believe it's somewhere in here: http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=593.0 Took a while to find it (Dunno if it's that one in the OP or if it was something else later in the thread), but it's just an executable that goes into your spelunky folder that you run instead of the normal exe, and it doesn't break SP spelunky, so nothing to mess up.
If the XBLA version came out on PC through Steam, I wouldn't hesitate to give Mr. Yu all of my money. I love Spelunky, even though I've gotten to the final boss six times without actually beating it.
Been playing since it was first released. Still haven't beaten the jungle area.
Oh this game was good. I had gotten incredibly good at robbing stores. Now, surviving four levels, that's a challenge.
I hate HD remakes of games on XBLA/PSN. It ruins the original feeling you get from the pixelated sprites. Anyway, this is a damn good game, so I will give the HD version a chance. I have like 500 deaths and I still didn't finished the damn thing. Can't even get through Stage 2.

It looks crisp and clean and while the HD version looks good it feels out of place and weird.
Such an awesome game, and already the thread died? I finally managed to get to the ice levels, after dozens of plays. Got killed by an UFO explosion. :(
Holy fuck I love spelunky. Another good mod for it is tastes like spelunky, which lets you play as a maneater, and is really fun. http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=1087.0
Weird seeing posts by myself from 2 years ago.
What a bump. I loved this game to the point that I used it as a school password.
