That's right, folks! We need a thread about Z, aka the hardest, sexist strategy game to ever exist (EVER). I don't think you understand how hard it is. It's so hard that it's just about the equivalence of you punching a mountain and expecting the mountain to disappear: not going to happen.
It's so hard that it's fun. And you don't even know what it is, you jerk.
Z is a game made by Bitmap Brothers, and is about two armies (red and blue) who mindlessly duke it out on various planets or "campaigns" with no real goal other than to destroy EVERYTHING. To do this, you are given units and strategically places "factories" around the map. Factories must be secured in order to produce a larger quantity of units. You can assign factories with different production roles (for example, you can quickly build "psychos" or shock infantry that die easier and are required to be closer in combat, or you can build "toughs" wich take longer to build, are slower, but take a helluva beating. oh, and did I mention that they fire rockets?). Your overall goal in the game is to get to the enemy's fortress (while defending your own) and destroying it. You lose if they blow your fortress up.
Did I forget to mention it's a cinematic masterpiece? Watching the gunfights between characters is just amazing.
Just want to see how great it is?

The singleplayer will make you poop your pants because it's so intense.

Here's some multiplayer footage. As you can see, it doesn't change too much at all, and continually shows signs of absolute badassery.
There's a sequel, called Z: Steel Soldiers. It is far more comical than the first, featuring the same characters in the first game. It also features some great new comical cutscenes with some fantastic acting and artwork. Sadly, the game didn't live up to much expectation.
Steel Soldiers is far more plot driven than the first, but to me is equally as good primarily to the juicy story. The gameplay is so-so, and feels more like Command & Conquer and very tame compared to the gritty original.

Exciting!
IN SUMMARY, let's play Z. It's pretty amazing once you sit down and give it a shot.
SCREENSHOTS (the best screenshots ever made, thanks to me because YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON)

BUT ANGRY BAKER; I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME! I WANT TO PLAY IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW
HERE'S HOW.
DOWNLOAD Z95 (Z CLASSIC). THIS CAN BE RUN ON DOSBOX (BUT NOT VERY GOOD). ALSO COMES WITH Z EXPANSION. This makes it so Z is run in a client that is optimized for XP and [HOPEFULLY] Windows Vista/Win. 7. You pretty much need this to have fun. Also, it makes the game run at a higher resolution.
Woah, nostalgia. I've still got my Z CD somewhere around here, one of my favourite games ever. If only there was TCP/IP LAN multiplayer (I think its only got IPX or something old). Haven't tried Steel Soldiers though, have heard it is drastically different.
Edit: One of the few old RTS games where seeing an enemy tank is quite terrifying, especially as there is a chance one enemy tank can kill two of your tanks (a very minute chance, but it still makes EVERY tank fight fucking intense).
Ok I've never heard of this game, but it looks pretty fuckin' gangsta. I'll have to keep my eye out.
I hate the 2D feel.

Holy shit, this looks badass
[editline]06:44PM[/editline]
and why does the voice of the Grunts remind me of Barney Coulhan from Half Life
The first thing it reminded me is Red alert
Looks like one of those good 'ol fun rts games, how i miss them.
Random sidetrack, is The Bitmap Brothers making anything?
badasses dont play videya games
Looks pretty badass to be honest.
Oh god I remember this, I was rubbish at it but I played it so much. :v:
So there's no resources, and it's all about controlling factories to get more units than the enemy? Sounds interesting.
Looks fun
Haha, yeah, looks like shit.
ahhahaha: "the bitmap brothers"
Looks interesting and it reminds me of Advance Wars without the turn based game play. I want to try it.
Where the fuck. CAN. I. GET. THIS. GAME. Again? I must have this game. I got Z:Steel soldiers, the 3D one, that in my opinion is good, but not as good as the original!

Sorry, go take your shitty Command and Conquer and shove it up your turdhole. This game is reserved for MEN ONLY.
So this is the father of all those "take territory to grow stronger" games?
So this is the father of all those "take territory to grow stronger" games?
yes. and it's better than any other one of those games, too, mainly because they manage to couple humor, SUPER CINEMATIC GUNFIGHTS (seriously) and, uh, the fact that it doesn't suck asshole.

Z Expansion has MUCH BETTER multiplayer support. We could totally make a Hamachi server if we wanted.
I need to see some of these cinematics.
Wait, it's actually named Z: The Game for Badasses?
