• Gaming - Age matters?

Do you think age matters when it comes to gaming? I'm not talking about the ESRB or anything, I'm talking about people stereotyping "little kids" (ages 0-14, 15) as "annoying". I am in this "Little kid" age group and for the first time, decided to host a live show with my voice! some fun, but I guess it wasn't fun for the viewers. Apparently I was an "annoying little kid". I did no such things to annoy them, and looking back, was simply just not pestering anyone! I'm still mad about this incident, but it's mostly mindless, momentary rage. It will pass. In all seriousness, 75-85% of these "Little kids" are simply trolls or truly annoying. But what about that other percent? What about the people who are mentally mature? I say mentally because there could be some genius 10 year old that is social, nice, respects other's opinions, and simply not annoying or trollish, while not being physically mature, while some 20 year old that just reads 4chan all day and just trolls forums is seen by other people as "cool" because he has a deep manly voice or something. I just think this is unfair, and sort of annoying in its own sense. What do you guys think? I know many are in the 16-100 year range that simply don't care and will post a "lol little kid" response to act "funny", while some of you will actually be on topic and mature about the current topic. TL;DR, what do you think about "little kids" in games? (I put this is gaming, not fast threads simply because it applies to gaming and I am seeking a thought out response.)
little kiddies in online games piss me off, they so stupid, but i don't see the point of age restrictions in games, parents buy them anyway. [editline]04:32AM[/editline] allthough, little kids should not be allowed mics in games, once your balls drop and voice breaks it's ok, but when you squeak, gah, it pisses me off.

I believe in age restriction on microphones. However, content wise it's up to the parent Some kids are okay on the microphone because they don't talk like crazy
Well to put it this way, if I had a little kid I'd probably let him play most M games but I probably wouldn't let him play much online games. Although I might not let him play games with a lot of nudity or something.
Age matters in everything. /thread
By the time someone is 14+, he should be able to pass for a 16 year old. Anyway, I can tolerate prepubescent kids as long as they don't intentionally try to annoy anyone. But it's the internet, so you can't expect that from everyone.
It's a thing of mine that I don't swear, It's quite annoying. And just letting you know, this was no M game.

I'd not give them mic though, i wouldn't want other people to get as pissed as i do from his voice. My little cousin, he's 6, and used to play COD MW and MW2 (before it kinda became an obsession and my cousin's dad used the airport level as a way to tell him police came around saying he's too young to play so now he can't) but they were fine with him playing games like that, they did't give him a mic, and they understood that some people wanting to play these games properly don't want to have to put up with a 6 year old pissing about.
I'm 13 and I sound like a 15-16 year old on the mic, people never really say anything. It's fine if your voice isn't really squeaky, and if you don't have a very deep voice I still don't care, as long as you don't act immature.
I don't care about your behaviour. If your voice is annoying, you're annoying.
I didn't think your voice was annoying. :buddy:
Pretty much what Take_Opal said. In conjunction, I think 14+ year olds are OK in most games as long as they can leave aside their childish behavior and play the multiplayer game like it's supposed to and not be overly annoying. Here's an example: Evilhome. THE server to play on in Day of Defeat 1.3. 90% of the players on it are 25+ years of age, are constant regulars, and are a blast to just sit down and chat with while playing (alltalk is on). There's a point in a game when it becomes less like work and becomes actually enjoyable because you can mindlessly run around and pop shots at the enemy, die, and continue playing all while at the same time have some great discussions (discussions being DISCUSSIONS and not what normal younguns do, like play the game seriously and whine). The biggest thing is that most of us adults can talk in games and, even though we say stupid things, don't come off annoying solely because of the maturity of our voice. The same doesn't apply to kids: if you are under 16 years of are, are talking for more than thirty seconds per every five minutes, you are talking TOO MUCH. Long story short, I think that children are OK in games so long as they act less like children and act more like adults. I probably wouldn't say this a few months ago and would post some troll comment saying "ban all kids they suck, are unfunny and can eat shit without facing repercussions" but then that'd void anything I have to say that's even remotely intelligible.
I'm 14, my voice isn't high, it's at least getting quite close to deep. I don't talk constantly when playing a game like CS:S or GMod, I try to avoid the game microphone, and use text chat most of the time. Only time I use voice chat is with a few close-knit friends on skype.
I'm fine with little kids as long as they don't use microphones. No microphones until you're 15.

This is a truly wonderful responce, and I can tell you are a mature, great, friendly person. I agree with these points and love the responce. If only more of facepunch was more like you... And Goose, thanks! I think it was a single, jokeing sentance that triggered my insecurity.
well i think you should just tell them to stop using the mic if there is any mental maturity in them (lacked by lots of gamers) they would stop
You're not helping me think little kids aren't annoying. I think it's the way you guys speak, like it's either too serious or too immature. It's really damn annoying. [editline]04:04AM[/editline] This was in response to Chezhead's previous post where he unneccessarily thankful and appreciative to 69105's response
I'm fine with kids as long as they don't squeak over their mics or talk about stupid shit.
It's really hard to see a ''mature'' little kid, and when i do, if his voice is annoying, i ask politely, would you please type instead of using the microphone, your voice bothers me. Most of the times they agree to do so.
I'm fine with little kids as long as they don't use microphones. No microphones until you're 15.
I've played with many people who claim to be 15 but sound like 12 year olds. Then again I've played with 12 year olds that sound like 16 year olds.

There was some ass who complained about the SPAS as being nooby in MW2, and a much younger, squeaky voiced kid told him to clam it because the guy used 1887s. I thought the little kid was smarter than the deep voiced guy.
Little kids (most of them) can't resist the urge to scream in their mics instead of talk normally, it pisses me off.
I am not a child person. This can be seen when I am in my clan's server in BF2 and a jr member comes in. It usually goes as follows: Me - OK, time to take Factory Jr Member - GET IN THE TANK WITH ME -GET IN THE TANK GUN -HELP ME IN THE TANK -HELP ME IN THE TANK -GET IN THE TANK AND HELP ME Me - No. Jr. Mem - Ge... GenOmega1 disconnected from the server. Teamspeak needs a perma mute feature.
If someone isn't mature enough to stop themselves from screaming over the mic they shouldn't be playing online, I don't care if you're 12 or 28.
It's a thing of mine that I don't swear, It's quite annoying. And just letting you know, this was no M game.
Then whoever you were playing with has no right to complain, assuming you're at least 13.
If your voice is deep enough, then by all means use the mic. If it isn't then please wait until puberty.
