Hi there, so I'm wondering again for my game I'm making, since it seems with the engine that you can deform meshes via vertexes, which made me think; "Hey albeit we're not going to nothing but trench warfare, it wouldn't hurt to have something like it right...?" So I'm asking you, the people of facepunch what I should do, go fairly well down this line, steer clear of it altogether, or somewhere in between?
Basically what you would do is as an officer you would drag or something to that with terrain, and men will come and dig trenches, so you can deform the terrain to your will, what all do you think?
That would be awesome. Any game that offers you modification of the world is awesome.
Trenches are fucking awesome. When I heard that there were trenches in CoH I jizzed. Then I saw how pathetic they were.

Wow, well this is really unexpected, if they say a cross it's likely just going to be kind of trenches only, but maybe if I do decide to take it further, I'll go with dugout systems and such.
I'd play your game just to dick around with making tunnels, Red Faction style

Wow. I thought people didn't like the idea of Trench Warfare in a WWI game, but here you guys are saying it would be awesome...
The more the player can impact the environment the better if you ask me. Always fun to to see how you have changed the environment.

Guess I'll see what I can do then. But no guarantees everyone.

Wonderful. Are there any actual details on your game yet? I mean, is it using UDK etc?

I do indeed have details, what would you like to know?
can we some models
can we some models
I would, but I don't really have much. Apparently modelling takes a long time to do, or the guy who's supposed to be modelling isn't. Sorry, anyways it uses a little known engine called ShiVa, or I'm hoping it will. It's quite good it would appear.
Well, trenches are awesome for first person, but they can be bad in third. They'd restrict the view, you see.

Good thing it's going to be First Person then. :P
But shiva is unity's less popular brother
*bomb/mortor drops and makes a large crater*
*use the new crater as cover moving up*
*really tense*
*repeat steps 1 and 2 untill you can see enemys*
games that have the abillity to use the world other than just a thing to walk on always do great things
DO IT!
But shiva is unity's less popular brother
True, but a very good thing about is that I can program it in LUA, which is probably the language I'm best with. Makes my job easier.
Good thing it's going to be First Person then. :P
Okay, I just didn't know which one you had decided on.

not even 1 model?
It would be pretty cool if there was a map where both teams start from scratch and have to dig the trenches themselves.

I have one, it might not be that great. I'll show it in a bit.

Why? They would just run and shoot eachother.

Men of War.
Men of War.
The troops in MoW tend to screw it up with their horribad AI when you apply that tactic, and sometimes the craters don't even provide cover. It'd be better in an FPS because since everyone plays their guy they can organise movement and tactics better unlike leaving the job to broken AI.
Please try and keep all ideas/content about your game in one thread, rather than making a new one every time an idea pops into your head.
^ This, I don't even know what you're talking about, OP.
Wow. I thought people didn't like the idea of Trench Warfare in a WWI game, but here you guys are saying it would be awesome...
The only people who don't like the idea are idiots with no imagination. When people think WWI they think sitting a trench for weeks on end getting trench foot or drowning in mud. These people aren't wrong but that's just a part of things that happened. People don't seem to realize that there could be some good scenarios themed around WWI. They just assume that it would have to be super realistic and crush the idea under their heel. I firmly believe a good WWI game can be made.
I still furiously wish for a Total War: WWI.
