Okay, here's my rant that hopefully some of you will be able to agree on.
About 4 months ago the Socom: Confrontation patch 1.6 was released. I was really happy when I first heard about it, new content, new guns, new modes. At this point SC was still my favourite game, so I was playing it actively when the patch was released.
The patch added a few things. New maps, good. New gamemodes, good. Mixup of gamemodes and maps, as apposed to playing the same 3 maps on the same 2 gamemodes, good. The new guns you didn't have to unlock (417, Spas-15, Ak-107, bunch of other crap) all decently balanced with the rest of the game, good. Then there was the specialization system.
So basically, you can choose between 6 classes. Pistol, rifle, SMG, sniper rifle, machine gun, and shotgun. You could choose 2 to work on at a time, so as long as you have one of the two kinds of weapons equiped all the points you earn go towards earning something for that class. There's 3 unlocks, a gun, an attachment, and the "stars". Well lets start:
The attachment. Pretty cool. Generally just nice little things like a foregrip for any gun you want, such as the AK-47, a gun that can't normally accept a foregrip. Or a laser for a pistol, it's blue instead of red and increases the accuracy a bit more than the normal pistol laser. No biggy here.
The unlockable guns. Second most halfassed part of the update. All Slant 6 did was reskin an existing weapon and give it RIDICULOUS stats. Like a G36, reskinned for a cheap desert pattern, that has a ridiculous firerate and increased damage. Or a golden desert eagle (I personally hate them for this, more proof they're looking to COD for ideas) that kills in ONE FUCKING HIT. This is realistic, considering it shoots .50 AE, but then the recoil should be much higher; a seperate rant about how stupid the armor system is, especially considering this game is supposed to be more realistic than others.
The stars. Pissed me off most. I don't even care about the other stars besides the sniper rifle gold star, and I think it's about the same for everyone else. For the sniper, the gold star makes all of the guns 1 hit kill, unless you hit them in the foot then it just takes them down to like 2% health. There are semi-automatic sniper rifles with 10 rnd magazines that are as accurate as any bolt action and if you have the gold star, the same damage. So I see everyone running around with "TILLY"s, beefed up SR-25s, and one shotting people without even bothering to look through their scope. And if they're not doing that, they're running around with gold desert eagles and tan G36s absolutely raping everyone who are "playing in the past," IE: pre patch 1.6 where it was based on skill and teamwork.
Socom: Confrontation was my favourite game before patch 1.6, and now it's one of my most hated.
TLDR: Morons who made Socom: Confrontation release a patch that turns a game bordering on simulation in terms of teamwork, into a call of duty clone.

This is realistic, considering it shoots .50 cal, but then the recoil should be akin to that of the .50 cal M82 considering it weighs 4-5x less; a seperate rant about how stupid the armor system is, especially considering this game is supposed to be more realistic than others.

Hngggee.
.50 AE is NOT the same as .50 BMG, fella.
Now that we have that out of the way...

This is bullshit, bordering on a simulation? PFft. SOCOM stopped being realistic the moment people started strafing back and forth at a million miles an hour dodging bullets and bunny hopping.
At any rate, you don't have much to worry about, Zipper is back on board making the new proper SOCOM game.
I actually looked that up after I posted. Then just used common sense, and took into consideration the physical size of the magazines. But it is larger than usual for a handgun, I thought that might carry over to more recoil in real life, more so at least than what's shown in SC.
And yeah, it's not even close to a simulation. Maybe the story/campaign modes in the Socom 1 and Socom 2. But that's not want I meant, notice I said "bordering on simulation in terms of teamwork."
When SC first came out and I got into a good clan and all that, it was fun actually coordinating over the radio. Depending on the gamemode, but my favourite was splitting up the team into 2 groups of 4, and moving with that 4 the whole round. It was practical too.

I thought you aren't allowed to jump in Socom? Atleast you can't on the PSP.

Probably because they didn't want to spare a button for a (mostly) useless function. There's one less analog and 2 less shoulder buttons on the PSP.

People bunny hopped all the time in SOCOM 2 and especially 3.
Regardless, the movement model (the ability to rapidly strafe/side to side, specifically) is what fucks half these games attempting to secure even just a bit of realism.
Here's hoping Zipper realizes this while they are developing SOCOM 4.
I never played any SOCOM's online, they all sucked. Three had kind of a good idea, but bunnyhopping idiot ruin it.
I thought SOCOM:Confrontation always sucked.
Confrontation was always shit.

SOCOM was amazing online :colbert: (Prior to confrontation which was always crap)
Anyone else miss SOCOM 2 online for the PS2? It was the only game I really played on the ps2 and found it amazingly fun. Fish Hook, etc. All fun maps. And it had amazing sniper levels, so much possibility for proning in grassy areas with the ability to take out a whole team by yourself..
Just what you said about the gold deagle and M82, they don't fire the same round.

They're not gonna have the same recoil bro.
Already cleared that up. I suppose I should edit it though. It is larger than usual for a pistol. You'd think it'd have more recoil than it does.

Also, it seems everyone stopped reading after "...to that of the M82," because I continued to say "since it's weighs 4-5x less." Just confirmed that it actually weighs 5-6x less, at that point I realized the difference (about a minute after my OP) and just tried to salvage the point I'd made.
It's also 30 fucking pounds. I see mercenaries running around with it and jumping all over.
