Freespace Open finally has an easy to use installer.

Remember, you still need retail Freespace 2 to install Freespace Open, it can be purchased from GOG.com:

After installing Freespace 2, download the Freespace Open SCP Off-Line installer which includes Freespace Open 3.6.10 (with Windows, Linux, and Mac support), the Mediavps (for graphics), as well as other extras like the On-Line Installer (not working yet), Freespace Port, Freespace Silent Threat Reborn, Freespace 2 demo, OOG cutscenes, as well as 15 user-made campaigns.

The Freespace Campaign Pack v2.0 contains 100 additional user-made campaigns.

The DVD kits are for those who want to archive the retail Freespace 2 installer from GOG.com and the Freespace Open Off-Line Installer to a DVD.

Probibly one of the top PC games ever made, atleast in the space-shooter genre.

Think something as epic and totally OMGBBQWTF as Half-Life except as a space-sim and with large scale capital warships and that's what Freespace (2) was like back in 1999. The SCP basically adds more "modern day" features such as higher resolution support, higher quality modern graphics, etc.

A bit of an update.

The installer has just been updated. The broken on-line installer that was included has been removed and a newer version of the 3.6.10 Media VP files have been added as well as a hotfix for one of the campaign missions.

You may want to consider re-downloading the installer if you've already downloaded and used it, though this probably won't be necessary since you can install the newer Media VP files and the hotfix manually.
