I was considering buying a CS:S or DoD:S server from gameservers.com. Is it just general games on a set map, or do i get to customize gamemodes, models, materials, maps, etc.? Help will be much appreciated.
I've tried setting up my own server quite a few times, but i seem to fuck it up, so I'm being lazy.
You just need ftp access.

If you don't know about ftp then well your server is doomed to fail.
How did I know you were going to say something like that instead of actually being helpful?
You can customize your server through the FTP. There you can add maps, MODS, models, etc. Other than that, I highly doubt that they will give you options as to what you want to add to the server.
There's a chance that they would help you install them, but I haven't rented a server from anyone since 1.5.
Try reading their forums before posting in one that isn't even related to servers.
