Are you poor?
Do you not prefer to play games that take up all your PC resources?
If you said yes to any of these, Minetest-c55 is for you.
This game is released under the GNU GPL,

see how happy he is? it respects his freedoms.
It is coded in C++ under the Irlicht engine which runs on GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, or Windows.
It allows Lua mods too.
although 0.31 is stable, 0.4 dev is much more fun and playable. Celeron55's server (he's the main dev) carrys 10 people (its on a thinkpad), but someone hosted a 100 slot on an Atom Notebook.
Sounds great? Fuck yeah.

You want servers? okay
minetest.sicp.in - A server hosted by 4chan's /v/
celeron.55.lt - the developers testing server
thats all. If you want more servers, host one, then post here.
Also, did I mention it runs on laptops so well, that your grandmothers rig will play it?
oh yeah mang
How do you think this will do any better than those cheap Korean knockoffs?
How do you think this will do any better than those cheap Korean knockoffs?
because it has a playerbase and is coded in C++ and its made by a danish guy
I came here for the free beer.
What's this about free beer?
Is it made from scratch and not off of Minecraft's .jar? (well; aside from the fact that the jar's in java)
oh screw you guys okay I'm not technical genius like you are
What's this about free beer?
Its a saying by RMS (the founder of free software, he says free software means freedom to edit code, not free stuff like beer) so this game is open source and free

scratch, MC is propietary software
Looks cool. After seeing how Notch became a fat lazy cunt after he got his money, I'm more than willing to play this.
because it has a playerbase and is coded in C++ and its made by a danish guy
the code and guy who made it's country are like completely opposite of minecraft

Just being in C++ doesn't make the game any better. If Notch was a better coder, and actually kept the code for Minecraft as optimal as possible, it would probably run so much better than it does currently. It isn't Java that is causing the game to run badly. It's just bad development.
What makes this better than Minecraft ? That's a serious question.

Some people prefer open source stuff for some reason.

its more stable and less unoptimized :D

Stability hasn't been an issue in Minecraft for a while now. But yeah, making something more optimised isn't going to be too hard with the amount of content they've added, but not fixed since adding. Not saying this is a bad project or anything, but I can't see it getting anywhere really as Minecraft kind of has a stranglehold of the voxel based mining genre.
You'd think they'd have picked a decent name for it by now.

It's not nearly to the stage of completion that Minecraft is at so I wouldn't really call it fair to compare the two. But some of the advantages I've seen so far over minecraft are:
World height limit is practically infinite, rather than 128 blocks
Open source
Seems to run faster with a bigger draw distance
Better cross-platform compatibility
...but that's it really. For now.
Why is everyone knocking it? No one gets pissed when another racing game is made. Minecraft is now a genre. Get used to copies. It's like saying "all racing games are shit because they're just copies of Gran Turismo".
Honestly, this looks promising. MC has issues with operating systems and isn't very resource friendly. This looks like it would be great for portables and crap PCs. It's just enhancing what MC offers, like Forza and Gran Turismo; one sucks in one area while the other game excels in it, and vice versa.
Give it a chance.
But does it have redstone and a feature in creativity which allows me to copy and paste a large selection of blocks?

If yes, then I am throwing minecraft out the window.

Minecraft is not a genre.
seems it can allow much more slots in multiplayer as C++ rather than Java o.O
Minecraft is not a genre.
True, Minecraft is not a genre, voxel based mining games are.
seems it can allow much more slots in multiplayer as C++ rather than Java o.O
It's not C++ that's allowing for more players in itself, it's the fact the game is built with that in mind instead. If Notch had given enough effort at the start, Minecraft could support a higher number of clients. Look at Runescape, a MMO written in Java, millions of players concurrently. It's all to do with how the functionality is added, rather than what it's developed in.
Well, atleast Notch isn't an asshole to his users, shit bro, how can you expect to get a larger fanbase if you can't accept criticism?

Notch is the same guy who wanted you to pay for mod support.
You realize this right
This could be a serious contender
i must say I love the removed sky limit
Looks good. Played minecraft a few times at a buddies house and its good, but could never get into it due to the hassle of registration/demos
Will give this a try
Hosted a server for this, currently completely vanilla (I have no idea how to change any settings or do anything at the moment). IP is 2b2t.net and the port is the standard one (30000). It will always run the latest version available, so download that.
Planning to keep it as long as time lets me.

This alone actually makes it really cool even though it's just started.
Is there anyway to play singleplayer?
