This game was ahead of it's time back in 2001 and today could be seen as a hybrid between Starcraft and Sins of a Solar Empire. Instead of fighting across one map, you could fight across 16 huge expanses via wormholes. The strategy was immense for the time and this was coupled by the fact that you had to keep your fleet supplied or it would be unable to fight, allowing even a small force to defeat a larger force if you managed to cut off supply lines through the wormholes in the system. You didn't just colonise planets, you built fucking space stations around the planet in a ring - reminiscent of the Kuat Drive-yards in Starwars - it was epic. It also had the most amazing soundtrack going. (That music makes anything feel epic.) Sadly, Ubisoft cancelled the almost complete squeal in 2004. But it's back! Most of the game is complete but they still need to finish parts off but the largest hurdle is upgrading everything to 2012 standards. They want this to be an AAA Space RTS release and I believe, if they get the funding, it will be.
From the creators of the critically acclaimed Conquest: Frontier Wars comes the next generation of interstellar conflict. Conquest is a real-time strategy game set in the deep reaches of space. The player commands a vast armada of ships, refineries, and research facilities to become the dominant force in the universe. Gameplay revolves around collecting resources, building a fleet, and expanding to neighboring star systems. Take command of one of four different races, construct massive fleets, explore, colonize and gather resources on far-flung worlds, and conduct scientific research and weapons development. But most of all, prepare for the Great War that threatens to destroy the galaxy and bring about a new dark age. http://www.peezocker.com/pages/cq2__overview.html
Kickstarter has been highly successful lately for game developers to launch amazing games without publishers breathing down their necks. And seen by Republicque jsut this week, if a game gets enough publicity, the money will come in quickly. This is the main reason I've made this thread - I'm terrible at making threads, but I truly believe Conquest deserves a squeal. I admit, the funding goal is pretty high, but I do believe it is possible as seen with Republique receiving huge amounts of funding in it's last few hours because people reported on it. I have no idea if any facepuncher's played the first Conquest, I hope some of you did, but go check the page out - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1869102574/conquest-2-vyrium-uprising-rts-fans-unite and maybe even look up some old videos of the first game. This game beats Freelancer 2 in my mind for the game I most wish was made and I really hope that it meets it's target. I know this thread isn't great, I don't make them often but I hope you get the jist of it.
This is great, but i would still prefer Freelancer 2.
Maybe someday...
Almost 200 backers now
Holy shit, I actually remember playing this when it was avaible for free on Comcast Games on Demand. it was undoubtedly my favorite alongside Impossible Creatures. Im looking foward to this. some well deserved thread music (probably late but yeah): EDIT: Wow, apparently the game was heavily bashed by Starcraft fans because of how the human team in the game is called the "Terran Navy". why Blizzard failed to notice this, I dont know, but it didnt really deserve the bashing it got, it had more than enough potential as a great space RTS IMO.
Spread the word! [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] I've got the remastered theme tune on itunes now, sounds amazing, love the soundtrack to this game.
IGN did a nice informative article about it - http://www.ign.com/blogs/ladyshadowheart/2012/05/13/conquest-2-vyrium-uprising-kickstarter-project/
$10,000 now and it's actually starting to get reported on sites. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1184705?p=36001492#post36001492 It should also be noted that one of the leads was the force behind Wing Commander and Starlancer.
Such a great game, I'm with this 100%
