Champions Online is a superhero-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game by City of Heroes/Villains developer Cryptic Studios based on the Champions license. Game Informer's preview revealed that the game is being developed for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. The game's rules will be based loosely on the HERO System ruleset.[3] It is now in the beta stage of development.
For those of you who are familiar with games like City of Heroes, then it's well worth looking into this game as it's developed by the same developers, Cryptic Studios. General Description
Earth's first and best line of defense is its heroes. For generations, brave men and women have answered the call to protect the world from the villains who threaten its safety and security. Today, organizations such as VIPER, ARGENT and PSI use both superpowers and super technology in their dastardly plots to control the world. Creatures from outer space and other dimensions seek to enslave humanity. Super scientist Teleios is creating an army of clones and superpowered constructs to do his bidding. The greatest threat of all is Doctor Destroyer. A superhuman genius driven to conquer, Destroyer will not stop until all of humanity bends knee to his greatness. In 1992, Destroyer obliterated the city of Detroit and killed thousands. With years to prepare, his next attack is sure to put the entire planet in peril. Led by The Champions, protectors of Millennium City, the world's heroes have launched a crusade for peace, security and justice. But they need allies. Defender is calling for a new generation of superheroes to fight in a war against evil that spans the globe — and beyond. Powered by the groundbreaking Cryptic Engine, Champions Online is currently in development for the PC. With literally billions of character options allowing total customization, real-time action combat, the richly detailed Champions universe and an experienced Cryptic Studios team devoted to working directly with gamers to deliver a great gaming experience, Champions Online is set to be the premier superheroic massively multiplayer online role playing game. Save the world. Be a Champion.
System requirements
System Specs Revealed! Millennium City After Doctor Destroyer obliterated Detroit in 1992, the city’s future seemed bleak. More than 60,000 people died in the attack. The few areas of the city that had withstood Destroyer’s doomsday weapons were quickly consumed in fires, floods and looting. What industry had survived the downturn in the economy quickly packed up and moved to safer regions. Today, the gleaming skyscrapers of Millennium City™ stand as an example of American innovation and determination. With the funding and technology available to them after the Battle of Detroit, planners decided not to rebuild the city, but to recreate it. Millennium City would be something the world had never seen before – a city with every possible technological advantage and comfort. Corporations such as Harmon Industries and Cambridge Biotech committed vast amounts of their resources to constructing the “City of the Future.” Heroes flocked to the project as well, volunteering their time and powers to the effort. Now spire-like skyscrapers are connected by picturesque garden skybridges. Solar panels and nearby windmill farms generate clean, renewable power. Automated, computer-controlled highways eliminate gridlock and traffic accidents. Flashy 3-D holograms have replaced billboards. Info-Kiosks on street corners offer a continual stream of news and information. Free, high-speed wireless Internet access is available in every business and home, and Millennium City’s schools and libraries store the vast majority of their data electronically. Dozens of corporations have moved their headquarters to the revitalized downtown, and millions of residents have been attracted by the city’s luxuries and plentiful jobs. Heroes, too, have flocked to Millennium City. Leading the pack are The Champions, the world’s premier superteam. Solo heroes such as Cavalier and Nightwind also can be found in Millennium City, as can corporate-sponsored supers such as Kinetik and Doctor Silverback. Of course, there are superhuman villains as well. High-tech thieves and mercenaries plague the city’s corporations and research facilities. The New Purple Gang has formed out of the remnants of Detroit’s organized crime families. Old threats like VIPER lurk in the shadows, waiting for their chance to strike. Looming over all is the spectre of Doctor Destroyer. Millennium City was created in defiance of his plans. He will not allow the insult to go unanswered. 2. Stronghold My trial was a joke. The judge, the jury, my idiot lawyers? They're dead men – they just don't know it yet. When I get out of here, what I've got planned will make that spree in Millennium City look like a preschooler play date. I started planning my escape the second they handed my sentence down. But then the guards slapped those inhibitor cuffs on me. They say it's just an energy field, but I can feel it hanging on me. It presses down on my shoulders and smothers the power in me like dirt kicked on a campfire. Getting my powers sucked away messed with my head, and before I could react, I was in the transport and on my way to Stronghold. If you get caught and lose it all like I did, savor those last seconds of freedom. Smell the fresh air as long as you can. Drink in every bit of the desert view. Get a picture of that painted sky in your mind and lock it in. And take a long, last look at the sun. Because if you're going to Stronghold, you're going down in the ground. You're not going to see the sun for a long, long time. - Red Jack McCall By the mid-1970s, supervillain crime was taking a vast toll on the American economy. Supervillians were stealing billions of dollars in cash and property each year, and destroying billions more. One reason was that it was difficult to keep superpowered villains incarcerated – catch a few, and it would be only a matter of time before they busted out of prison or were freed by their cohorts. In 1976, noted penologist Dr. Charles Wildman proposed Stronghold – a super prison designed to hold supervillains. Stronghold would be buried deep in an isolated New Mexico mesa. Its massive stone walls would be strong enough to withstand superpowers, but more importantly, the super-technology within the prison would block superhuman abilities and be capable of containing even the worst threats. Soon all the states were sending their superpowered convicts to Stronghold, and with its power inhibitor technology, breakouts became a thing of the past. Supervillains were caught, convicted and served their sentences. The public was safe. As the 1990s dawned, Stronghold suffered the worst disaster in its history. After a freak thunderstorm knocked out a portion of the prison's power grid, the prison descended into chaos. A group of inmates led by Blackstar of the Ultimates made a break for the surface, freeing as many villains as they could along the way. By daybreak, more than 40 hardened supervillains were on the loose. Wildman was forced to resign in disgrace, and a new, tougher warden was brought in to rebuild the facility. Peter Kennedy ran Stronghold with an iron hand, and soon gathered many enemies amongst the prisoners and staff. In 2001, a disgruntled guard released the monstrous Grond from his hot sleep coffin. The giant irradiated supervillain smashed his way out of Stronghold, killing multiple guards in the process. After an investigation into the incident, Warden Kennedy was removed from his post by the Bureau of Prisons. To get Stronghold back on track, the government turned to a familiar name: Wildman. Arthur Wildman, son of Stronghold's founder and a noted academic and prison administrator, is now in charge of the facility. Arthur Wildman has revised security procedures, lobbied for technology upgrades and revamped the psychological evaluation that all employees must undergo before being hired. Whether that will be enough to keep Stronghold secure remains to be seen. About Stronghold The prison itself is buried deep within the rock of the Devil's Head Mesa. Its isolated location was picked so that the public would be protected by distance as well as stone and steel. On top of the mesa are living quarters for employees, support facilities and a hangar for the prison's vehicles. Prisoners are kept below ground, with the most dangerous inmates in the lower levels. Underneath tons of rock is the "hot sleep" chamber, where the most powerful supervillains are kept in a form of coma for the length of their sentences. Currently, the most fearsome supervillain in Stronghold is Menton, a powerful mentalist capable of commanding legions of mind-controlled followers. New Neighbors Recently, there is a surprising amount of activity in the windswept desert surrounding Stronghold. There has been increased activity at Area 51, and strange beings have been reported in the area. PRIMUS has established a base in Uranium Flats for Project Greenskin, a team dedicated to the capture of the renegade supervillain Grond and studying the effects decades of nuclear testing have had on the area. However, a new owner has been moving odd equipment into the area. Is the ghost town living up to its name?
3. Snake Gulch Howdy, partners! Welcome to the Snake Gulch Dude Ranch! My name is Belle Steele, and I'll be your guide to all there is to see and do in the Wild West! My daddy's a fella by the name of Tyrell Donaldson, and he created Snake Gulch to give all your tourist folk a chance to play the 1864 way! But since it ain't 1864 no more, he made some … accommodations for modern technology. I'll let you in on our little secret: All the residents of Snake Gulch are robots. Yep, robots. My daddy made 'em, and they're something to see! The sheriff 'round these parts has got more than a tin star, he's got a whole dang tin body! You do me a favor and don't tell none of the cowboys what you know. They think they're real cowboys, and it wouldn't be right to hurt their feelings. Now, I'm happy ya'll are here and all, but I've got to warn ya: This ain't the best time to be visiting Snake Gulch. And I'd best tell you good folk what happened. Things were pretty fine here at Snake Gulch for a long time. We had lots of visitors having fun and learning to rope and ride – the saloon and the hotel on Main Street were full every night! But then … well, it's been mighty tough around these parts for the past few years. First the government moved alla them there supervillain types into the mountain over yonder, and tourists don't take to being within a stone's throw of a prison. We kept goin' as best we could, but when Grond showed up and started smackin' four people at once, well, that was pretty much the end of the good times down here at Snake Gulch. It was real quiet down here for a long time, and we'd gotten used to being by ourselves. Then these here snake fellas moved in, and that's when things went from bad to plumb terrible. They're some real desperados, they are, and they've done something to the good folk of Snake Gulch. Turned 'em mean. You better watch your step in Snake Gulch these days – you make the wrong move, and some ornery cowpoke might just fill your hide fulla lead! I don't like them snake types at all. What cowpokes they didn't make crazy, they took to the junkyard! They're rebuilding some of the robots, and I don't even want to see what they're gonna make. Murder machines … it's just awful! These are some sad, sad days in Snake Gulch. And unless you've got a hankering to strap on a six-gun and clean up the town, I'd advise you to mosey along. 4. Lemuria There are secrets under the Ocean. You’ve heard whispers – children’s stories of underwater people, mermaids and naiads. Or myths of ancient civilizations, lost in the depths of the ocean floor. And you’ve ignored those stories. You’ve laughed them off as idle fancies. But you’d be wrong. There are people in the sea, but they are nothing so gentle nor so tame as mere mermaids. They are the Lemurians, the last of an ancient race of cold blooded metamorphs, shifting between lizard and human forms. Once, they worshipped the Bleak Ones, vengeful gods who devoured the souls of their followers upon death. The Lemurians turned from their gods in fear, forsaking also the ability to change shape and trapping themselves forever in human forms. Their own pride sank them into the depths of the Indian Ocean. Once, they ruled half the earth. Once, you would have bowed in fealty to them. Once, you would have cowered in fear when they went to war. And they went to war often. Their dream was not merely world domination, no. Their dream was immortality, and if they had to conquer all the world to unearth the secret of eternal life, then so be it. Listen very closely and you will hear whispers. You will hear of a civil war in the ocean trenches, of a king deposed and desperately trying to retake his Kingdom. You will hear of men transformed into lizards. You will hear of the Mandragalore, a weapon so deadly, so vast, that it destroyed an entire continent. You may even hear that the Bleak Ones have returned. If you are very lucky – or very, very unlucky – you may be able to convince the captain of the Aegir to take you there aboard his submarine. Welcome to Lemuria. Other locales include: The Moon, Qliphotic (a mystical dimension), Canada's Frozen Wastes, Monster Island, Slither Beach, and more!
Features Dynamic combat system: Unlike traditional MMO's, this game doesn't have auto attacks or recharge times, making the combat system incredibly fast paced and user-demanding. Amazing character customisation: Again if you're familiar with City of Heroes, you're fully aware of the character customisation that they had and how extensive it was. Champions online takes this one step further by allowing you to customise your moves down to the colour and design of them. You want a purple force field? Fire black fireballs? No problem! Create your arch villain: As known, with every hero there is a nemesis that wants their revenge. Along with a massive customisation of your hero, you can create your own arch villain to have your own PERSONALISED storyline with. Improve your hero's looks AND abilities: For people who have played WoW we're all familiar with attaining the best gear but being unable to customise it, no matter how good the stats are. On the other end of the spectrum, City of Heroes allowed you to fine tune your characters appearance down to the finest details, but in the end your powers were all the same as the next hero that picked the same moves as you. With Champions online, they've combined the best aspects of WoW and City of Heroes. Attain parts that improve your character AND customise them to suit your character's image. Vast, open area to explore: What other MMO lets you explore an extensive city and its surrounding countryside, the frozen wasteland of Canada and the moon at the same time? Those are only SOME of the areas that are explorable in the BETA, with plenty more to come surely after its release. Your actions affect the city. For people who play WoW do you remember when you do a raid, defeat the last boss and "eliminate" the threat? It just happens all over again the next week. That's not the case with Champions Online. If you and your friends do something important such as defeating an evil group, it can affect the city drastically for a long while.
2. Unlimited Power Within You, Around You, At Your Very Fingertips Here are some of the classes and abilities, called "frameworks", available in Champions Online, with information of most of them. * Darkness * Electricity * Fire * Force * Ice * Martial Artist: Dual Blades * Martial Artist: Fighting Claws * Martial Artist: Single Blade * Martial Artist: Unarmed * Might * Power Armor * Sorcery * Supernatural * Archery * Munitions * Gadgeteering * Telekinesis * Telepathy * Custom Framework Darkness The dimensional forces of unadulterated primeval darkness run through you, ripples of power in a sea of extra-dimensional energy, Life drains, transfers, shields, made of void, and other dimensional powers are under your command. Electricity A living dynamo, you have mastered control of electricity. You have tamed the lightning, and your control of electricity is massive, extending to static holds, lightning bolts and other exotic manipulations of electricity. Fire Fire is your element, and your capabilities extend far beyond the mere ability to fling fire at your foes. Your control of fire extends to summoning conflagrations, sprays of fire and, when you have achieved true mastery, even more dramatic examples of power are in your grasp. Force Pure energy and force are at your command. Force fields, energy blasts and concussive knockbacks allow you to fling your foes about and imprison them in bounds of force. Might Some just like it tough, and some just like to use their fists. With incredible might and strength, comes too, the ability to absorb energies directed at them. Power Armor Where some would rely on their own natural gifts, you have taken a different route, using technology to raise yourself to be both a champion and hero. By means of technological armor, weapons, capacitors and a multitude of other devices of science, you prove that technology is more than a match for the unnaturally powered villains of the world. Power armor has a great degree of flexibility including options for both ranged and melee attacks and several area of effect powers. Sorcery Not all of those who exercise power were born with it. Some have achieved power through out long study or secret pacts with superplanar entities. Supernatural Powerful forces have made you their vessel. With supernatural chains and other powers upon your foes, your unnatural abilities allow you a variety of effects that you can inflict on your foes. Munitions You have guns and explosions, and use them on the enemy. Shoot them, blow them up, and then SHOOT THEM AGAIN. Your brand of justice comes out of the end of a 9mm laced with C4.

1. Be the Hero You Want To Be. * Total customization, at your fingertips: Choose from hundreds of different costume pieces, colors and body types to create your character's one-of-a-kind costume and look. There are billions of possible combinations, and in a universe brimming with the fantastic and the unforgettable, you can still be completely unique! * Your powers, on your terms: There are a multitude of astonishing powers to choose from in Champions Online, and its flexible character creation system gives you total control over your hero's abilities. You can even pick the appearance of your powers. Do you want purple force fields? Green fire blasts? Jet black claws? In Champions Online, you decide! * Keep your enemies close: Every hero must have an archenemy. In Champions Online, you design your character's supreme adversary, choosing a name, powers and costume for a superpowered foe to bedevil your hero throughout his or her career. * Bigger and better: Vanquish evil, and your successes will be rewarded with costume pieces to enhance your powers and abilities. Then customize the appearance of those rewards to your vision of your hero's look and abilities! * Look, Feel, Walk, Act The Way You Want: The game will feature a robust character creation like City of Heroes, including the ability to edit a hero's movement; for instance, a wolf-like hero may opt to leap on all fours rather than on two, a robot may select robotic, jerky movement rather than humanoid, and a mentalist may opt to float inches above the ground rather than walk. The player may also edit the manifestation of their powers, including color and form; for instance, a heat ray may resemble flames or a force field may have a color specified in the editor. Travel Powers comfirmed so far are: # Ice slide # Flight # Rocket Boots # Teleport # Burrowing (Diggin' like a Mole" # Swinging (Spider-Man-like) # Superspeed # Superjump # Acrobatics *Every Positive Has a Negative: Heroes will also have the option to have unique weaknesses and disadvantages, such as being extra-vulnerable to cold, in exchange for obtaining stronger powers. However, this system may have been altered in face of making more powers available, or stronger; for example, making an attack attack an area instead of one person at the cost of a recharge timer. In addition, players will custom design their own arch-nemesis in the same fashion as their own hero (selecting a costume, their powers, their name and history), who will appear throughout their careers. If a player defeats his arch-nemesis permanently, they have the option to create a new one or finish their careers without another arch-nemesis. *Do Whatever, Be Whatever, Have Whatever: One significant difference is the elimination of any character class or archetype system — all characters can take any skill or power equally. The game will also make it easier for a player to spend most of his hero's career as a solo hero if they desire. *Show Off What You Earned: The game features a paper-doll inventory system, and items physically appear on the character when equipped; the player may select to remove the item from the visible GUI and still receive the effects from it.
Special thanks to Links for this information. Yeah I want to try this, CoX was alright but the instances were way to tedious and basically the same if not the same and I easily grew bored of that.
I'm in the beta for this :v: Now that i've worked out how to make the graphics not look like dog crap it's actually really fun. By the way, http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=679270 just sayin'

Feel free to bump it and merge this content with it or something.
No worries, that one's dead anyway.
Hey Reta, I made a huge, huge thread for this on another forum, so if you want more information on things, and videos or pictures, I can PM them to you so you can add them to the OP.
Well it looks fairly promising, but I think the most important question on my mind is, "Can a 19 year old play this game without being made fun of by his friends?".
Fucking awesome. Though I swear half the first week's going to be in character customization. Also I swear all the DC comics characters are going to be taken. I wanna create a Rorschach.
-snip-
Go Ghost Rider on villians? Fuck yes. I'm going to use Power Armor, it seems like the coolest technology power out there. Combining powers will be very interesting. Reta, next PM(s) will be about the locales and their descriptions.
Fucking awesome. Though I swear half the first week's going to be in character customization. Also I swear all the DC comics characters are going to be taken. They're not risking a lawsuit from Marvel or DC again.
I'm in the beta too, and it's pretty cool. Too bad there's been some talk about microtransactions:ohdear: [editline]07:25PM[/editline] damn Softlayer 2.0
I'm in the beta too, and it's pretty cool. Too bad there's been some talk about microtransactions:ohdear: [editline]07:25PM[/editline] damn Softlayer 2.0
Really? Where? I haven't been on the forums for a bit.
Yeah, there's something about Cryptic Bucks. Something like that.
I've been trying to get into the beta preview for ages. :(
Has pricing been announced yet? Also, how's that gonna to work on 360? (The pricing that is)
The pricing for PC is unannounced, but it's probably safe to say it'll be $15 a month. Xbox, however, you'll need Xbox Live for. What they should done if let them buy the game, play off Xbox Live, and leave it. At the most, play $5 a month maybe. What I'm saying is, no one knows anything about pricing yet.
I loved CoX, and I know I'll love this. (Please don't make it shitty now :v:)
Didn't see the trailer of the tunneling travel power up there so here it is, add it to the op if you want.

Novangel? What are you doing out of RPWL? Anyways, they should put ragdoll in. They really should.
Because I snuck out? Have an idea of a flaming homosexual, a literal flaming homosexual :/ (No offence, just using a stereotype)
Novangel? What are you doing out of RPWL? Anyways, they should put ragdoll in. They really should.
They don't have ragdoll physics? City of Heroes had that, why take it out?
They don't have ragdoll physics? City of Heroes had that, why take it out?
Or at least improve it, the ragdoll physics in CoH were a bit odd and stiff.
I would give someone a really good trade if they had an account/key available :) Anyone up for it?
I would give someone a really good trade if they had an account/key available :) Anyone up for it?
Every time I go to other forums, I see people say they're in the beta, but they couldn't devote enough time to keep playing it, so they let their account sit. Then there are people who participate in every contest, and check their emails everyday, hoping to get a key. It's borderline obsession, but that kind of devotion would help in testing in the long run. If anyone wants to trade, I'd recommend through PMs or email, but I still think it's not allowed, with rules and all.
It's that sorta game (I'm in beta) that when you load it up for the first time you love it or you hate it. I personally think this is a sequel to CoH due to alot of resemblances but it's all built upon. This game listens to CoH's wishes and complaints and has thrown in most of them and plans to do the rest. PM me if you have any questions screw the NDA. P.S Beta's not that great. Playtests are only Friday 10pm-2am or Wed 12pm-11pm. Those are the ONLY times we can play.
So wait, is that Eastern time? 4 hours doesn't seem like a lot of time. And Wednesday's time is wrong, I think, unless you can play for 23 hours. And when it's not Wednesday or Friday, can you at least load up the game and mess with the Character Creator?
