So, I got several emails from Steam recentley saying that my password, email contact, secret questions, etc. had all been changed, and I didn't do any of that. My Steam account's been hijacked apperentley. So, I sent in messages to steam to fix it.
Has anyone else gotten their accounts hacked, and how long does it usually take for the problem to be resolved?
You didn't verify your account?
I ttried logging in and nothing happened, it kept saying that thepassword was wrong. I happened to be checking my email at the same time and noticed several emails from steam saying that my password, etc. had been changed. I didn't do any of that. Now, I can't login to my steam account, someone else is in control of it.
And so close to my birthday, too. :( Right now the perfect birthday prsent to me from Valve would be my accoutn back.
I'm also really concerned with the fact that this guy's got my personal information as well.
i reckon you got scammed and dont wanna tell us coz ur a big boy.
Scammed? How?
If I knew I was scammed I'd admit it. Right now, what's happeneing is that someone else has control over my account.
2-3 weeks
If you give them everything, like you're "Last Purchased Games" "Paypal Transaction ID" etc, you should get it back within 2-4 days.
Don't just say "Oh hai my account's been Hijacked, fix it now!" that will make them have to ask you for all the details to make sure you are the owner, only making the process longer.
Tells you everything you have to tell them to get it back.

And if you report it straight away, they should lock the account (so the hacker can't use it) within a day or so.
Okay, I included my last two purchased games on the question thing.
I can't think of any other information that I can put on there...
I got mine back in a week. The Steam Support page has good instructions on how to get your account back.
Instead of making this thread you could have just gone to steam support?????
Most people get them back in a day or two, just hope they didn't hack your account to use hacks on it and get it VAC banned
Ive actually have nothing agaisnt their feedback on stolen accounts and such. I always supply them with info like last passwords, or the cd keys used in the account, and they usually answer in 1 or 2 days. They have a very good feedback system :)

wrong, i got mine in like 3 days, and it would've taken less time if it hadn't been hijacked on a friday
[editline]08:21PM[/editline]
also steam accounts can get hijacked for various reasons, like a steam password bruteforcer, keyloggers, malware, and all that shit. then there's also weak, guessable passwords, and of course, just stupidity.
What other sorts of info should I provide to speed up the process?
I got mine back in a matter of hours.

anything you can think of. all your steam games cd key with ticket number written on it is the most important.

Luckily the hacker didn't cheat on my account. a VAC banned steam account is worthless to me.
also when you get it back, emmediately do the verify email thing.
I had my account hacked and i had printed out the game key when i bought the orange box and after a hour of searching i found it and emailed it too valve and within 24 hours i had my account back. So if you have your cd keys of product keys or the emails with them send them to valve. Plus i think your credit card will work too.
What's this CD key thing you guys are talking about? All of my games were bought online...
Or is it something that I can look up that's in the game files...?

Credit card, huh? Are the questions kept hidden from everyone else?
EDIT: Looks like I might have gotten it fixed...when I get home I'll check to see if it worked...
Man i saw that someone might have logged into my account i instantly changed the password i am very paranoid of my steam account.
Got it back. I gotta say, I'm impressed at Valve's reaction time. Thank goodness! :D
Just remember.
NEVER TELL YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE.
It just can't be stressed enough.
And now, verify your email address.
And ignore free game messages and so called valve employees!
Simple and easy.
Make a question in the support with "Hijacked Account", they will ask you for the CD-key of any game you own and your steam ticket.
Simple, just write the Steam Ticket number near the CD-KEY of the game.
He's got it back read the posts!

You can fix it by going back in time, and stop yourself from entering your account details on suspicious sites
26 hours, from initial support ticket to password being changed.

As you should be. You put money into that account and you would be a fool to not try your hardest to protect your investment.

Also, I would make sure you haven't got a keylogger on your computer.
That's how my shit got jacked. Got it back though.
If you think you may have a keylogger just type important passwords using the windows on-screen keyboard.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, I change my password every time.
Usually it's just me turning on my laptop forgetting it's on auto connect for school, but hey, it's safer!
Guys, I didn't give my info out to anyone, I've been playing it completley safe. I dunno how this happened but I'm glad it was resolved so quickly...
