• Black Mesa Might Not Make Its 2009 Relase Date
    92 replies, posted
So I was checking up on the Black Mesa Source forums, and on a topic they were discussing what they were most exicted about in black mesa, when one of the devs posted this: http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=55555&postcount=12
I don't mean to alarm anyone, but you need to take everything we say with a grain of salt. Things like "Black Mesa isn't dead", "we're still working on it" and "2009" might not be as grounded in the realms of reality as you'd all like.
So, I guess that they're hinting its either completly dead, or not gonna make its promised release date. Got me sad, but that dev IS known to joke around alot. Still..
It's dead :suicide: Im still wondering how monkeyjunkie recorded those demos though, hmm.
Dead.
I love how every regular member that saw Rams post was just like " goood ol' raminator." and every single cockroach in the entire forums was just like "oh Shi-"
Also:

i was like the regular members, in my few months on the site, i figured out Raminators antics, sorta
They are not terribly complicated.

Raminator was making a joke.
With a project as big as this, I don't blame anyone for taking it seriously.
Point is the senior members already know of Raminators antics, and aren't fooled by them. But newcomers are fooled and that's why it's funny.
Raminator was making a joke. Also:
Im sorry mate but it looks like it's pretty much dead. How do you explain no news being posted in a year and a half?

[editline]05:36AM[/editline] Also, their Twitter pretty much says they WILL release this year.

Gee, what a surprise.
I think thier abit too farin to just let it die now, but you never know. either way i hope it gets relased soon this year.
Black Mesa Might Not ever make it's Release Date.
Is not dead fucking stupid idiots
Who else isn't even remotely surprised about this?
It's not dead. Out of all the unreleased HL2 mods it is the most active on the forums. They dev team post everyday with half the community doing the work for them. It can't die because somebody will always bring it back.
Also, http://twitter.com/Blackmesadevs Read the most recent tweet :downs:
I wouldn't be surprised if the game doesn't meet the 2009 deadline, but it's a fairly big project. Still, when it finally does get released, I think it'll be worth the wait.

According to my memories, a long time ago they said that the file size they reached was around 4gb... Now it's probably around 6-7gb...

I think it's built on the source engine so we won't have to download that, just the textures, maps, cut scenes, voices, etc. I suspect that you'll either need to buy a cd, or download it via torrent, especially if it's that big.
:argh:
Myeh, my guess is it's dead. I never expected it to happen in the first place, though, so whatever.
Its either dead, or will only be released in 1 or 2 more years... I vote for the years because its not just a couple of reskins and whatnot and release. They will have to do EVERYTHING that was done in HL1, but in the Source engine. Not only that, I dont think these guys are the same thing as valve. Not saying that their shit ofc, just saying that what valve could do in 4 years, it might take the black mesa devs longer. I look forward to play it though. Their doing what valve didnt do :) (dumb ratings wtf? whatever)
why has the front page not received any updates since the trailer released? also, the particle system GUI thing: was it really necessary? i mean this mod has been in development longer than Hl2 has been...
What a surprise. Hopefully it will be released one day.
In addition to being an excellent mapper, Raminator is also a structural engineer for Trollercoasters.
Black Mesa Forever :patriot: I have a PCG from 2005 with an article on this, saying it was to be released in 2006 :unsmith:
black mesa wont be released
Got me sad, but that dev IS known to joke around alot.
That reminds me of the Mod's April's Fools joke in '08
Hello and welcome once again to another Black Mesa news update! The Black Mesa team is proud to announce that we've been purchased by EA! Early in February an EA representative contacted us regarding a possible deal. After a short round of negotiations, we agreed to merge with EA and take orders from the company regarding the development of Black Mesa. Obviously we are VERY excited to be sponsored and we know this is really going to take Black Mesa off the ground! EA is trying to get some competition with the popular multiplayer game, Team Fortress 2. As such, we've been directed to redo Black Mesa's art style to be similar to Team Fortress 2. We think this captures the over the top, hilarious arcade style shooting that Half-Life was so famous for, and Black Mesa should prove a real draw for enticing people away from Team Fortress 2. Since we need to make use of Valve's customized Lighting Equation used in TF2, plus random assets from Episode 2 and Portal, we'll be adding The Orange Box as a requirement to play Black Mesa, bringing the requirement set to: Half-Life 2, Counter Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. All these games must be installed on the machine or Black Mesa will not function. In addition, EA has set up an intuitive "charge by chapter" system wherein the first chapter of the game (Inbound) is free, and each additional chapter will be available for the low price of $9.99 USD. Here is a preview of what you can expect from our new TF2 art style. This shows pictures of well known Black Mesa areas after the transformation! That's right.. EA has set a release date for.. TODAY! So the first 2 chapters of the mod are being released in all their cartoony glory and are available for purchase right now!
