• How would YOU make a browser based game?

I've played a lot of these in my day, but they can never really hold my interest for long without a bunch of friends already playing it. Maybe that's just because the right one hasn't been made yet. I'm mainly talking about persistent tick based, multiplayer browser games and not just playing something like Quake Live. What would be your ideal browser game? What were the best aspects from some you've played? The worst? Does theme make a difference to you? Personally, I favor gameplay above everything and the most balanced and interesting one I have ever played is Archmage (http://www.the-reincarnation.com/). It's kind of an MTG setting with servers that reset fairly often so it's no big deal if you are new or get screwed.
runescape. same exact stuff as world of warcraft except with diablo graphics.
I could not even begin to say how much I hate Runescape. Anyway, I'd like to see more sandbox-ish flash games.
hmm. my idea of an ideal browser based game would have to be a game like mastermind: world conqueror. in this game however, you'd play as a batman villain, pulling over elaborate heists and aquiring new gear such as freeze-rays and jetpacks. eventually, you gain such a large establishment that you face off against a series of superheros and eventually take over the world. but it's not over yet. you fly out into space and take over the universe too. best aspects would have to be in the interfaces, the personalization, and ai. worst aspects would be limited choices of things, making it too hard or too easy, annoying pop-ups, and waiting times.
runescape. same exact stuff as world of warcraft except with diablo graphics.
Quit ramming different games into each other, you're giving me a headache.
runescape. same exact stuff as world of warcraft except with diablo graphics.
It's barely anything like either
When I was casually browsing around today at all these different browser games and MUDs I lost count of how many games with even the slightest hint of any RPG elements were calling themselves "WOW-like." Just like any FPS is like counter strike and any RTS is like starcraft.
InstantAction had a nice concept for browser based games, they released a plugin for firefox/opera/IE that allowed you to run Torque 3D games in the browser. I never tried it in anything but Windows + Firefox though so I can't really comment on how it would work in other browsers or even OSes. And if I were to make a browser based game I would either do a PHP+MySQL+JavaScript text based game or a Silverlight game.
runescape. same exact stuff as world of warcraft except with diablo graphics.
haha second time i've seen you trolling, keep going mate
I'd use Unity.
Tried Hours of War? It is/was a tick-based hex strategy in Flash environment. http://www.hoursofwar.com/ Unfortunately the company making it went bust after no publisher was found. I should know, I worked as an intern there. :/ Dunno if the servers are still up.
More minecraft like games.
haha second time i've seen you trolling, keep going mate
I'm not trolling. Just giving my honest opinion of Runescape. Runescape is like World of Warcraft (or is WoW like RS). It's just that Runescape's graphics aren't as advanced as World of Warcraft.
Runescape is like World of Warcraft (or is WoW like RS).
you must be playing either a different runescape or a different wow to the rest of us then either that or your definition of "like" is broad enough that you class apples and oranges as the same thing
Runescape: You create a character, do quests, fight monsters, earn xp. World of Warcraft: Same thing as above. Hell, even the fighting is the same. point, click, sit back, and enjoy the battle.
Runescape: You create a character, do quests, fight monsters, earn xp. World of Warcraft: Same thing as above. Hell, even the fighting is the same. point, click, sit back, and enjoy the battle.
I'm pretty sure you're describing all RPGS by saying "You create a character, do quests, fight monsters, earn xp." RPG is a whole genre, and that definition will fit about 90% of every RPG ever. So yeah, both oranges and apples are fruit, and WoW and Runescape are RPG's, but you class them as the same thing. You made a very broad definition.
Runescape: You create a character, do quests, fight monsters, earn xp. World of Warcraft: Same thing as above. Hell, even the fighting is the same. point, click, sit back, and enjoy the battle.
that description fits for about every mmorpg ever made. hell that description even fits for Pokemon BTW: Now knowing that you are trolling doesn't makes you less of a trol
that description fits for about every mmorpg ever made. hell that description even fits for Pokemon BTW: Now knowing that you are trolling doesn't makes you less of a trol
Can you quite with the trolling stuff? Yes, the things that I described are broad enough to to apply to almost every rpg. None the less, I think World of Warcraft and Runescape are VERY similar.
Runescape: You create a character, do quests, fight monsters, earn xp. World of Warcraft: Same thing as above. Make a daggerfall clone that you can play in your browser. Update the graphics, and you'd have an instant classic.
that description fits for about every mmorpg ever made. hell that description even fits for Pokemon BTW: Now knowing that you are trolling doesn't makes you less of a trol
Actually, it does. You have to be intentionally getting people angry to troll. So yes, to troll you need to be aware of yourself intentionally trolling. But he's just being retarded.
Minecraft with many more block types, and smaller with more detail.
A car combat game. So management of money and everything is browser-based. The combat is flash/shockwave.
Make a daggerfall clone that you can play in your browser. Update the graphics, and you'd have an instant classic.
that would be cool.
pretty much runescape without the gay
Something new, think out of the box. The box being traditional genres and how they are played. Take Audiosurf for example, you have a rhythm game that you don't press buttons (Well, have to) to activate a note. It combines breakout as well as a sort of racing game. This is innovative. Recreating Runescape in a desert setting = not innovative.
runescape. same exact stuff as world of warcraft except with diablo graphics.
Runescape with an actual economy and an active combat system. Exact carbon copy of runescape circa 2008, except add wsad movement and click to attack. and better monster ai too. It's got awesome quests, awesome content, and a kickass gameworld filled to the brim. it's just ridiculously boring. [editline]02:20AM[/editline] also holy shit this thread is full of dumb
I'm really surprised at all the runescape remake support. I would have figured people would have gotten bored of that by now or just gone to play nonbrowser RPG's with more content. Regardless, for those of you actually wanting a runescape remake there's already a few server emulators on sourceforge. Open_RSCD looks like the most advanced. You can use that to make whatever you want if you are interested.
I still want an updated Daggerfall that you can play in your browser :colbert:
