• Source Recorder: "FIXME:DIVX only for now"

Last night my Garry's Mod console replied with ""FIXME:DIVX only for now" after I had typed:
host_framerate 30 startmovie moviename avi
The demo I am trying to render is roughly 1 hour long. I chose the Xvid MPEG-4 Codec as my compression codec, with no adjustments made. This has only started to be an issue since last night - I have recorded and rendered AVI movies with Source just fine before, with the same codec. The main issue here is that I cannot drag the AVI file generated, after this error, into Sony Vegas nor can I play it with Windows Media Player. What do I need to fix? And why would this issue suddenly arise? Is there an alternative MPEG-4 codec I can download? I don't want to render Source demos as TGA files because I do not have the disk space for them, and AVI files are easier to handle. Oh wait! I just got an idea - just stop the movie rendering halfway in! This will make two 30-minute AVI files. *UPDATE* This didn't work. Thanks for contributing guys, much appreciated. I imported the AVI file into VirtualDub: Just found out:
Currently, Source's avi utility does not create open-dml 2.0 compliant files, meaning files over 2 gb are corrupt, and has a 4 gb cap.
What this means: I'll have to render 10 minute chunks of my demo. open it in virtualdub it might be corrupted
Try recording a smaller demo.
Try recording a smaller demo.
The message appears in the console before I choose what demo I wish to play. "FIXME:DIVX only for now" appears when I choose any codec after typing
startmovie moviename avi

The demo I am trying to render is roughly 1 hour long.
i'm pretty sure this is your problem because (i think) source has an avi output limit of ~4gb the divx only for now error can be ignored
Never ever use straight-to-AVI with the Source Recorder, make it a bunch of TGA+WAV files then bring it back to an AVI with VirtualDub (or select File -> Import, select the first frame, then tick "image sequence", in Sony Vegas Pro)
i'm pretty sure this is your problem because (i think) source has an avi output limit of ~4gb the divx only for now error can be ignored
So, is there any way I can split the demo? I don't want to get rid of it. Should I use FRAPS to record it? [editline]04:18PM[/editline] I already said I don't have the disk space for that.
there probably is a way, but not that i know of fraps hogs a ton of space too, like 3.9gb for a 3 minute long 720p 30fps video i don't really think i can help any more
I just noticed that if you open up the console, whilst rendering a demo, then the playback speed will be normal and not slowed down. Does this affect what the final video will play like? My vegas doesn't play any avi. Try to open the file in vlc or media player classic or something. And don't touch the game while you render the demos
