Yay for PC release. Much more likely to get this now.
Slip into the uniform of a member of a crack Umbrella Security Services squad member tasked with cleaning up both the zombies and the survivors of the original T-virus outbreak in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a new title reportedly on the way from former SOCOM developer Slant Six Games.
Back in November of last year, a leaked document forwarded to Kotaku suggested that Slant Six Games of SOCOM: Confrontation fame had been tapped by Capcom to take the Resident Evil franchise in an entirely new direction. Now Stickskills says the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine confirms those suggestions, and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this winter.
Considering Slant Six's pedigree, the story of Operation Raccoon City makes perfect sense. Rather than one character against a horde of mutated zombies, players will become a member of the Umbrella Security Services. Their job? Contain the zombie outbreak; eliminate any survivors. It's a very dark game, giving fans of the series a fresh perspective on the events that occurred in Resident Evil 2 and 3.
The UBSS team will consist of Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre, with each character having a specific part to play in the narrative.
The UBSS forces will also find themselves at odds with the U.S. Special Forces, creating three-point battles between military groups and the infected hordes.
While gamers don't have to be familiar with the series to play Operation Raccoon City, those that are will visit familiar places, see some familiar faces, and possibly even change the future of the Resident Evil series by shooting those familiar faces until they stop moving. It seems Capcom is letting Slant Six run loose with game canon, and characters like Leon Kennedy are not guaranteed to survive the experience.
Hit up the link below to read more features Stickskills says are planned for the upcoming game, or pick up the May issue of the Official Xbox Magazine to see if the full report surfaces. Until we receive confirmation, we'll leave that rumor tag up there.
I'm very interested. Sure Capcom isn't making it, but it sounds pretty fun right now.
EDIT: The link at StickSkills had more information. What I found more interesting...
>Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter allowing four members of the UBSS team to destroy all evidence of the ongoing outbreak. Along with slaying the zombies, you're looking to "kill pretty much every survivor possible"
>The gameplay is described as "dirty", and the series will feel much darker than it has up to this point.
>Hunk, first seen in Resident Evil 2 as a hidden character, is the inspiration behind the UBSS team.
>"Whichever team you play on, you'll be facing Umbrella-created horrors in between skirmishes with each other".
>Zombies in the game can sense you in three different manners: sight, sound, and smell.
>Quite a few scenarios in the game aren't "all about headshots". A quote in the article states, "It's about shooting the other soldiers - manipulating the, making them bleed."
>One of the mottos repeated to OXM throughout the demo was "Kill Leon". It's also stated that if you choose to represent in the game as the Special Ops team, that you'd more than likely have the goal of trying to save Leon Kennedy.
>Tyrants will most definitely be included in the title.
:fappery:
Tyrants? You're shitting me!
EDIT:

Picture of the USS team. Pretty bad looking in my opinion. I would have preferred the classic USS.

I can't wait. I have high expectations for this game!!
The three point battles doesn't sound that interesting as I've hardly seen it done right.
More than likely, you're going to have to kill every military guy you see. Probably no infiltrating, no rescuing, no depth or character. I won't doubt that they'll just be zombies with guns.
I hope there's actually some character. Zombie games need more character.
It's UBCS, not USS.
SOCOM with zombies? Sounds ok.

From what it sounds like, if you injure a member of the other team, the zombies will be attracted to the smell of blood and go after them. That's what it sounds like, we'll see how it plays out.
SOCOM Confrontation wasn't the best game so I'll wait and see how this plays out.
Concept sounds nice though.
Leon not surviving? Bah, not cool.
Oh my god.
YES!
It's UBCS, not USS.
Actually, it is USS (Umbrella Security Service).
http://residentevil.wikia.com/USS
This is UBCS (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service).

Oh my god this sounds great.
Imagine Swat 4 with zombies :D
Sounds pretty damn cool. Not too crazy about killing my favorite character Leon, But I just hope they do this right.

...Why are these things never created!!!!???
sounds awesome
"creating three-point battles between military groups and the infected hordes"
aka my dream game
It's UBCS, not USS.
No, they have USS. They're the "grunts" they all look the same, the whole Gas masks and BDU's. They've been in a few of resident evils cut scenes with MP5's and such. They're not as known or popular as UBCS or STARS.
This game does sound good, I've always loved the Resident Evil franchise (except the movies).
Will this be for PC ?
I can't wait to see how that battle turns out.

Oh, right.
This sounds surprisingly good, I guess we'll see.
This sounds awesome. If it's not as good as they're making it seem, I'm going to rage. There is so much potential here for an awesome zombie game. :buddy:
Hnnnghhhhhh
HUNK is needed for this game.
A Resident Evil game with zombies..
hnnnnghh!!!!!!!!
Hnnnghhhhhh
you and me, bro.
HUNK is needed for this game.
If Hunk is added then allofmymoney.jpg
Survival better be a necessity too. I want the zombies to be an actual threat and not some Left 4 Dead bullshit. I want ammo to be really scarce.

Well it says in the article they wanted the players to feel well equipped and powerful like a kill squad would be, but as long as they don't go too shooter-like with it they could pull it off effectively.
not a chance in hell buddy, the game is about military forces fighting eachother with zombies in between, not as the main enemy, there will be enough to shoot and kill the enemy, and then some for the zombies
I actually want the zombies to be a serious threat. Like... One-bite-you're-fucked serious.
Military are trained to shoot for center mass. In the books, that training pretty much caused most of the UBCS to get wiped out.
I look forward to the potential for strategy here. One misplaced shot or sound and you run the risk of bringing a tidal wave of undeath upon you.
Also, bioweapons. Hnnnnnngh.
ubcs, the real uss is fucking pro as hell, just look at hunk.
and fucking 1 bite 1 kill is stupid. When it comes to zombies health bars or bleeding injuries should only apply. realism doesn't fit in zombie games, especially when you want to have fun and not have to be like "omg are any of my guys infected" (one of the big reasons why "The Thing" the game was a flop, that shit was fucking annoying.
Jesus christ. You are everything that is wrong with modern zombie games
Jesus christ. You are everything that is wrong with modern zombie games
I was going to say something along those lines, but I'm posting from a phone and you beat me to it.
I think realistic zombie infection would be fantastic. I don't want the zombies to just be shuffling pieces of the environment or combat-specific tactics. This is a CITY where the zombies could number up to a million or more. I want them to be a real, viable threat and not just target practice like L4D zombies.

I like "unrealistic" zombie games, but I feel that there are too many "unrealistic" ones. A realistic one would be a breath of fresh air.
