osu! is the result of creator peppy wanting to create a freeware game based on [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_Beat_Agents]EBA[/url]. It turned out to be better then expected, so he made it even better, and it's now just about the best free music game in the world. No, it IS the best.
[b]What do you do?[/b]
First, you download some [url=http://osu.ppy.sh/p/beatmaplist]"beatmaps"[/url], which are user created tracks that match the rhythm of the song. Not all songs have beatmaps though. Afterwards, turn on osu!, and start enjoying.
The goal is to get a high score. You play by mouse (or touchpad or some shit like that), and the buttons Z and X (Don't click.) Hit Z or X for each circle, and hold it down for sliders. If you don't understand this, don't worry! There is an ingame tutorial!

Downloaded it a long time ago, could never get it to work.
Oh, yeah, I downloaded it a long time ago, but It didn't run well in my old and shitty PC.
However, I played the catch the rythm mode, that worked fine. It was fun... yeah... I'm going to download this now.

Wasn't it based off Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan hence the name Osu? (The game EBA was based off)

this game is really fun if you can deal with the fact that alot of the new beatmaps that get ranked each day/s are mostly anime songs and/or Japanese songs, though this doesn't lack english beatmaps.

The newer the better, the very oldest maps are almost always utter shit.

Yeah, started caring less about my rank after realizing that rank =/= skill, and started only playing maps I found fun instead of fanatically playing every single new map for the score and rank boost, so it started dropping.
The drop in activity can be seen in my play history.

The hitsounds are useful in keeping up with the rhythm, so keeping them atleast slightly audible is advisable.
