We want to bring peace back to this wasteland. The world tends toward destruction, so we try to make a difference." -Nicole Sickness was spreading in San Diego (later renamed Dayglow), the only remaining town near the Glow, so Nicole and her parents gathered all the people and organized an exodus to the north. During the trip, however, her parents were killed by marauders. Tired of the killing, and motivated by the death of her parents, she founded the Followers of the Apocalypse, a group dedicated to re-educating and rebuilding the wasteland, and to ensuring that humanity would not repeat the mistakes that led to the Great War. After founding their group, The Followers of the Apocalypse, they continued traveling to the north and settled in the Boneyard, establishing a headquarters in the former Los Angeles Public Library. The Followers are generally liked wherever they go, since they teach people valuable medical and agricultural knowledge, as well as putting forth many humanitarian efforts. Around 2161, they were one of the few groups to recognize that the Children of the Cathedral were more than what they seemed, and were suspicious of their motives. Talius, a ghoul-like mutant partially exposed to FEV by the Master's forces, found refuge among the Followers, and helped them understand the true nature of the Children. After the death of the Master, the Boneyard became one of the states of the New California Republic, and the Followers became both a major influence in the newly-founded NCR and the controlling organization in the Boneyard. Growing in power, the Followers begin to create expeditions to bring peace everywhere in the Wasteland. Some became disillusioned with being allied with the NCR and left the Followers, while maintaining the principles of the foundation. (Vidya had left to go to the town of Carbon in Texas, to inculcate the Followers' doctrine in her own way). The most important expedition was to the Mojave Wasteland where, with the help of the NCR, they traveled into New Vegas, settling in the Old Mormon Fort in Freeside where they could tend to the wretched, injured, and downtrodden. They took in stragglers of many creeds and colors, including the last few Enclave remnants. Despite the historic name of the place, there are no serious fortifications, just fences and gates with a few armed Followers inside. Over time, relations between the Followers and the NCR Senate turned sour. NCR broke most ties with the Followers, and turned their support to their own OSI. The Followers are touchy about their connection with Caesar’s Legion, a powerful slaver group east of the Colorado River. It is from their ranks that Edward Sallow, now known as Caesar, the founder and leader of the Legion, came. The Followers' goal is to bring the torch of knowledge to the wastes and facilitate the free flow of information, technology, and supplies equally among all the peoples of the wasteland, though they usually give special attention to those most in need. They often provide education, medicine, and scientific expertise free to all who require it, and their members are frequently found lending their aid to the needy wherever they can. Ideologically, the Followers' principles bear some resemblance to anarchism. Above all else, they support pacifism and cooperation. They oppose organizations and civilizations which seek to thwart these principles, albeit not through violent means. In terms of organization, the Followers don't have a strict hierarchy; they are a decentralized organization, although regional hubs (such as the old Mormon fort in Freeside) are established to coordinate efforts of individual members in the field. The Followers don't care about controlling territory, unlike NCR, but rather concern themselves with the welfare of the people. It is said by Ignacio Rivas at the HELIOS One solar plant that they tend to "clean up" after the NCR. Although once positive, relations between the Followers and the NCR Senate turned sour following the occupation of the Mojave. NCR broke most ties with the Followers, and turned their support to their own OSI, formed by ex-Apocalypse scholars. That said, their relations remain neutral: the Followers' university in the Boneyard continues to function, and individuals from the organization are a welcome sight in smaller communities, particularly on the Republic's frontier. The Followers are generally liked where they go, due to their humanitarian efforts. However, some governments dislike the Followers, as they are generally liberal thinkers who occasionally plant seditious thoughts in the heads of oppressed citizens. While the Followers of the Apocalypse's technology is remarkable and their technological knowledge is excellent, they don't have the means to replicate it or improve drastically upon it. Thus, they usually have to depend on what they can scavenge, repair, or trade with outside groups. These limitations largely hold them back from their main goal and from spreading their message to other parts of the Wasteland. --------- Transition to The Lost Children: In the year 2238, a rift openned between the members of the Followers. As a result, a new group formed called The Lost Children. These faithful few have taken the bigger picture and uphold all the moral choices the Followers first took up. Where there is a wastelander in need, there is a Lost Child to offer knowledge, and armaments. ----------------------------- Wherever there is a wastelander in need, The Lost Children will be there... Decription off Moddb.com
The small indie development group, "Rotators", supported by the main developer of FOnline, A. Cvetinskiy "Cvet", are proud to present FOnline: 2238, the new massively multiplayer game, free of charge, based on the famous award-winning cRPG titles Fallout and Fallout 2. Bringing the single player experience into a massively multiplayer game was not an easy task. While merging the existing features with new ones in order to provide as much game experience as possible, the young developers aimed for the recreation of the Fallout world as we knew it back in the late '90s, keeping their emphasis on the alternative, unique universe and its settings. The game will remind you of Fallout 1 & 2 everywhere you go - the places, the people, the common history and the events that shook the world and keep it trembling. Humanity, or at least what is left of it, has no time for a break. Faced with constant challenges, surviving in the harsh post-apocalyptic, post-nuclear, barren world, struggling for an uncertain tomorrow, the humans, ghouls and mutants are organizing themselves to push it through. To make it. To stay alive. Each group, each place, each organization with its own agenda, with its own ideology, fighting for their place under the scorching Sun. What they believe may be right or wrong... Who are we to judge, while striving for the same old necessity - survival? The game adds several unique features regarding the players and their interactions, be it with other players, their respective groups or NPCs. First of all, there are groups: factions, gangs - call them whatever you like, which determine the fate of the world. Some of them are more powerful than others, some are cunning and treacherous, some even hideous. But they are there, conflicting with each other, or aligning with the policies of the greater powers - those who have technological advances, political power or any other advantages over them, or are just plain bigger. Choose your way: join your favorite group and spread their agenda throughout the wasteland. Decide for yourself how to handle the resistance - with good will or stubbornness. Respect the authorities or lead a revolution to throw them off the throne - it is your world, you decide. If you don't feel like belonging to a group and have your own ideology, then you can take one of the numerous paths the wasteland offers. Some of them are: bounty hunting, brahmin trading, crafting, exploring and trading in general. The brand new system of professions allows you to polish up your skills and learn things you will rarely find in books, giving you a certain advantage over other players. Scavenging, gathering resources and useful items will be an inevitable part of your FOnline: 2238 life. Crafting something useful out of the gathered junk or selling it directly to your favorite vendor are just a small part of the great possibilities this game offers you. And of course, you can just take them off someone else, simply by brutally killing him/her or using more exquisite methods, like stealing. The choice is yours - and so are the consequences. From the technical point of view, the game will bring back the good old 2D isometric perspective, with english being the only supported language. The engine supports several new features like object opacity and the PNG graphics format. The scripting language being used is the AngelCode Scripting Library (or simply AngelScript) created by Andreas Jönsson, while system requirements for the game can be considered minimal for today's mainstream computing: MS Windows 2000/XP/Vista CPU 1.0 GHz RAM 2 GB DirectX 9 / OpenGL 2.1 compatible graphic card 56K or better internet connection Fallout 2 (CD or download-Version, it doesn't matter as long as there are master.dat and critter.dat files included) There are reports the game will run under Linux too (using WINE emulation), but we can not promise any official support for now (this may change soon). Due to the fact that the game is currently in its medium beta stage (remember, the engine development has progressed much further and the engine itself can be considered almost fully functional), it is necessary to test the numerous features and additions. Taking this into account, the decision to organize further open beta tests has been made, with the first one starting on August 15th, 2009. Game sessions last usually for several months before the famous "wipe" comes, where all data is deleted and the game upgraded with new features, content and options. We are looking forward to seeing you in the game and hearing your impressions of our creation, so that the next open test session can really be a mutual pleasure.
Media: ------------------------------------------- Season 3 of Fonline2238 has started, and I welcome you ALL to come and make a name for yourself in one of the harshest MMO environments ever conceived! Get in game and make your way to the top! A few words from the OP: I started Fonline in the later stages of the first OBT, and in the first year of my playing I probably rage-quit 5 times for several weeks each time. But something happened each time I came back to the wasteland... I lived longer. I got smarter, I adapted. I learned how to survive in harsh environment made not to coddle me, but to challenge and tempt me. I implore you all, to never give up on yourselves. This game may take a lot out of you at first, but the rewards are great. No matter who you become out there... remember my words. 1st February 2012 If you are new to the game, The Lost Children offer a boot-camp like hunting party where you will receive weaponry and knowledge to help you survive. =] ------------------------------------------------ If you wish to speak with me directly, you can contact me on our public, multi-game mumble server, or on IRC. Mumble: Label: The Lounge Address: 206.217.128.154 Port: 5137 Username: (PLEASE USE YOUR FACEPUNCH or FONLINE NAME) IRC: IRC Server: IRC.Forestnet.org Port: 6667 Room: #TheLostChildren
What's with the FOnline threads? Shouldn't this be in MMOs or something?
What's with the FOnline threads? Shouldn't this be in MMOs or something?
Answer number 1: Read Thread Answer number 2: It's at my discretion. I posted where it would get more views and gain more popularity. I am not "wrong" in my decision. Technically, couldn't ALL MMO's be put into "Games in Progress" ?
This game has been a lot of fun post-wipe, and the Russians are far and few between! Our faction has been doing pretty well so far, we're usually just chilling in vent during the evenings- leveling up or hunting for loot.
I can't believe that I didn't hear about this!
i've been having a lot fun with the children so far but anyway, let's get back to fallout online
If i'm nearly done FO1 will I be ok with this?
If i'm nearly done FO1 will I be ok with this?
This game is RIDICULOUSLY different from either fallout one or two. This game will kick your ass and spit on you over and over, but its the ones who learn and grow from it who tell their tales of glory.

As much as I love Fallout 1&2, I couldn't get into this game. Maybe I should try again. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] Anyone got some tips on how to start? I remember getting killed by everyone. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] I should start with shit shoveling.
Time to start shit shoveling and 10mm making. God I fucking hate junkyards. Also I need the best sniper build there is. Screw that I'm making unarmed build.
Don't shovel shit. Just go look for some encounter with Raiders vs Patrol, and then loot them. You'll get some leather armor and some weaponry with ammo, that'll be enough to do some quests or kill lone raiders. Also find broc flowers, craft powders, sell, profit.
This mod ran on Fallout 2 right? Also is there a FP village/camp/cave?
That is correct Fallout 2, and I believe so yes. I do not have any links to any info on it though, others can probably direct you.
It doesn't run on Fallout 2. It uses resources from F2, but runs on completely independent yet very very similar engine, built from scratch.
I always thought it required FO2, or does it just require some content from it?
I always thought it required FO2, or does it just require some content from it?
It requires Master.dat and Critter.dat and music. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] Hm, I can't seem to connect to the server for some reason nor I can update.
Ah, that explains that one. :)

[editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] Do not start with shovelling shit, it is a waste of time. Please get in touch with Lillas or Ghosevil about joining a Lost Children hunt. Did you guys figure out the server connectivity? Off the top my head: go to the FOConfig.exe in the directory, and go to the " Net " tab. Make sure the IP is " 94.23.237.127 " @ port " 2238 " The most tedious part of loning it in this game is getting your first tent so hit us up for a handout! We can throw in a few scraps, too..
the toxic avengers the faction me and some other facepunchers are in is making an big recruiting base right near ncr, we are one of the bigger factions and we have access to most top tier gear anyone want to join?

Most recent update fixed the music in game! Hurrah!
Most recent update fixed the music in game! Hurrah!
Did it? I can't hear any and there's no option to choose the path to the Fallout 2's MUSIC folder.
Well after spending the past day trying to get my Fallout 2 to install on this piece of crap Mac-book, followed tutorials, made images and ISO's of my disc, ran cracks for it, the works. And all came to nothing. Guess I'm not playing FOnline until I get home onto my Windows rig. If you haven't noticed. I hate Macs with an indescribable passion.
want me to upload you a rar with my currently working version?
