Penumbra games and Amnesia are at the top of the list.

I was looking at it thinking;
"Speed cotton."
Anyhow, Fatal Frame 2. Do it.
But basically, yeah, any japanese horror game
Dead Space creeps the shit outta me, seriously. I can't bring myself to finish it because I'm that much of a wimp.

I don't know why people find Amnesia so creepy. I played that entire game with a bored face pretty much the entire playthrough.

Did you have it on highest gamma or something?
Too bad my videocard is so rubbish it takes all the fun out of those games: While playing penumbra the flashlight would make shadows instead of light, kinda spoils the fun. I'd say Amnesia, never played it, but it sounds very scary.
Fatal Frame, Forbidden Siren and Eternal Darkness.
Amnesia is nothing compared to Penumbra.
Will some one please explain how Dead Space is scary? I haven't jumped or
screamed once. I'm very disappointed.

How did you not get afraid? Amnesia is such an amazing game cause it focuses on true horror.
First of all the setting, it's the 1830's in an empty castle. It's pretty much dark everywhere. You never really know where the monsters are and you can't fight them. And then the sounds holy fuck they are amazing! I went in to the editor just to listen to the sounds and it creeps the fuck out of me.

I would love to know what you think makes a scary horror game.

Bullshit. What Quantifies horror for you then?
I got Penumbra Overture and cannot play past even the first part. I put the crank into the little 'crank holder' thingy, turned it, and then something started banging against the huge metal cover on the floor.
Esc > quit game. I'm a sucker for scary things, I couldn't even play through Doom 3.
Penumbra series ... scary as fuck.
call of cthulhu was creepy at first but gradually became less and less the further you got imo.
Resident Evil 1 remake or Silent Hill 1
good times

Though the story gets more awesome and addicting the further you get!

RE2 used to make me shit bricks back in the days. Oh god the zombie hands through the planked door ways...
The crows bursting through the windows...
The zombies coming when I opened that door...
Holy shit...
Amnesia is pretty scary, but up until now, the only truly scary part was the invisible water monster. Haven't played much from there on, but that thing behind you isn't good for your sanity.
Your own sanity.
