This game is the SHIT. It was developed by the now-defunct Bullfrog, and when it was released by EA in 1997, it offered a new perspective in games that many didn't have at the time - the evil side. In this game, you are evil, and you have to beat the good guys. It had a sequel, Dungeon Keeper 2, which is also an excellent game, but this thread is about the original. It's a pseudo-strategy game - you have an isometric perspective (though that's just default, you can rotate the camera however you like). Your goal is to take over the land, and generally to kill all the heroes in each level and the Lord of the Land, who have come to rid the world of your evil and destroy you. Sometimes, the goal is different - you might even to have to fight other keepers and destroy their own dungeons. The premise of the game isn't too complicated - you have to mine out portions of the underground realm to build rooms, and mine gold to fund your evil-doings. You have to build rooms such as treasuries for collected gold, lairs for your creatures, hatcheries to feed your minions, and so on. Most of these tasks are accomplished through the use of your worker minions - imps. Imps do most of the dirty work, like digging, mining, claiming land, setting up created traps, and so forth. You start most levels with just your dungeon heart and a handful of imps. If the dungeon heart is destroyed by the enemy, then you lose, and are banished to a void for eternity. You have to defend the heart at all costs, and even your imps will die to defend it. To defeat the heroes or keeper(s), you must create and army of evil minions to do your bidding. However, you need to capture a portal to allow creatures to join your dungeon, as well as build rooms to cater to their creature comforts. The basic rooms for these are the hatchery and the lair, though different creatures may crave for specific rooms. Some creatures may only join you depending on the size of your rooms. The dungeon heart. The realm you have to take over. Each graphic representation of the levels become ash-ridden, with lava flows as you take them over. Pretty neat. If you didn't buy this game when it came out, you can still buy this game used, and sometimes new, but as far as I know, only on the interwebs. Otherwise... :pirate: ...it still requires DosBox or similar programs to run it, however. If you have Vista, still want to play this game, but it doesn't work, here is a guide on how to get it working.
Like Evil Genius more but then again that came out later so i can see how this was FUCKING AWESOME!!!111!!!!! at the time.
Oh fuck, nostalgia. I loved this game so much.
Gotta say I preffered the 2d one. Both amazing games by any means.
I still have the second one. Awesome game, never finished it though.
I actually didn't need DOSBOX to run this, on XP atleast.
WOHOO, someone actually went and did a thread for this!!! gotta say, i started at the second game and forced myself to get into this, it was kinda hard but now i'm there and i'm gonna stay! great games.
Could this be considered a 3D Dwarf Fortress?
Second one was sooo much fun. [editline]05:55AM[/editline]
Could this be considered a 3D Dwarf Fortress?
Much simpler and much more evil 3D Dwarf Fortress....without the dwaves
Best game ever [editline]02:10AM[/editline]
Second one was sooo much fun. [editline]05:55AM[/editline] Much simpler and much more evil 3D Dwarf Fortress....without the dwaves
There are dwarves and you can capture & convert them.
I will be your sex slave forever if you manage to run this on Vista and tell me how.
Apparently the first one was a lot funnier than the second
When a dwarf digs into your dungeon, it is actually a DF player digging into the pits.
I remember playing this on my 32mb ram, pentium 2 computer. Good times.
I still have the gold edition <3 So much fun, plenty of hours spent on it.
Damn the DKs were awesome, especially DK2. Also isn't DK abbandonware now? Also, get ready to rage:
A third episode of the Dungeon Keeper saga was underway, but opportunities to develop new intellectual properties on new platforms such as PlayStation 2 have meant that DK3 has been put on hold. There are currently no plans for another Dungeon Keeper game, however it remains an important franchise and there may be opportunities for us to pursue that direction in the future.

The projects that provoked Dungeon Keeper 3's cancellation were EA's Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings games.[1] Though there are no plans for developing any new Dungeon Keeper games at the moment, the Bullfrog statement points out that this is always a possibility for the future.
Fucking EA.
I'll try to complete this game some time this holiday  Never got far on single player, but I always loved multiplayer against my brother. Gooood times.
there are not that much Evil games Evil Genius (best evil game I EVER PLAYED IN MY LIFE) Black and White 2 (sort of) Overlord Dungeon Keeper and a few more evil = awesome [editline]10:29AM[/editline]
I will be your sex slave forever if you manage to run this on Vista and tell me how.
there is a un official patch for that, or you can try comptible modes and use it on Win94
I've got DKII, need to install it again. Was great fun.
Now I suddenly want to play again, does anyone know if Hamachi or Tunngle works with either of the games? I've never really played the first one in MP, never got it to work.
One of the best classic games. Ever.
When a dwarf digs into your dungeon, it is actually a DF player digging into the pits.
I lol'd. I've never played this game, maybe I should get it someday.
I prefer dungeon keeper 2, It was much better, either way both were FUCKING EPIC!
Gotta say I like Dungeon Keeper more than Evil Genius though they're both great, I hope the third comes sometime. I remember once I was watching random videos on youtube and I found some trailer for an EA game that stole DKs motto "It's good to be bad". I raged.
NO Dungeon Keeper 3!!! reason is that Bullfrog studio is closed and EA have the rights, but gave them to a Chinese company who is making a Dungeon Keeper MMORPG (and only for china) EA fails again [editline]12:51PM[/editline] he good news? EA today announced Dungeon Keeper Online, an MMO-based continuation of Bullfrog's classic strategy games. Bad news? It's not for you. Dungeon Keeper Online, as the game will be known as, is to be developed by Chinese studio NetDragon Websoft. As part of the deal,. NetDragon will get access to all of Dungeon Keeper's "themes, characters and other game content", while EA will get access to (provided the game succeeds) large amounts of cash money. Apart from the fact it's a "3D massively multi-player online role playing game", nothing else about the game was announced. Sadly for Western lovers of the franchise, the game is slated to appear only in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
Fuck you ea!
I want Dungeon Keeper 3 sooo badly, or at least Dungeon Keeper 2 remake or AT LEAST Dungeon Keeper clone (like evil genius).
 the industrial-ish techno-ish music in dk2.
http://kotaku.com/5334418/ea-looking-at-classic-bullfrog-titles-though-not-for-remakes
I can get it working because I'm on XP. Though it looks crap unless I play it in a windowed mode. If EA want out money, make a Dungeon Keeper 3, we won't mind if it's mediocre, we just want to play a version of Dungeon Keeper that works on todays computers without killing your eyes, and EA, we will pay money for it. I made a level for Dungeon Keeper where you had to find find the special things to gradually unlock all your buildings etc... Good times.
