I recently received a strange e-mail from "Blizzard" stating my account was being investigated for selling/trading. Putting me in a discomfort zone, I was confused, heavily... This is the e-mail I received:
Greetings! It has come to our attention that you are trying to sell/trade your personal World of Warcraft account(s). As you may or may not be aware of, this conflicts with the EULA and Terms of Agreement. If this proves to be true, your account can and will be disabled. It will be ongoing for further investigation by Blizzard Entertainment's employees. If you wish to not get your account suspended you should immediately verify your account ownership. If the information is deemed accurate, the investigation will be dropped. This action is taken because we at Blizzard Entertainment take these sales quite seriously. We need to confirm you are the original owner of the account. This is easiest done by confirming your personal information along with concealed information about your account. You can confirm that you are the original owner of the account by replying to this email with: Use the following template below to verify your account and information via email. * First and Surname * Date of birth * Address * Zip code * Phone number * Country * Account e-mail * Account name * Account password * Secret Question and Answer or Cd-Key If you ignore this mail your account can and will be closed permanently. Once we verify your account, we will reply to your e-mail informing you that we have dropped the investigation. We ask you to NOT change password until the investigation is fully completed. Blizzard Entertainment Inc Account Administration Team P.O. Box 18979, Irvine, CA 92623 Regards, Account Administration Team Blizzard Entertainment
From a "wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com" e-mail. The e-mail seemed a bit funky since it landed in my Junk folder... Notice, it asks for your password; this is where I caught on during the process of replying, saving my ass time from trying to get my account back (again). Was just wondering if anyone else received an e-mail like this? Or... was it just me?
they never ask for your password. if its a email dealing with wow they even tell you to never give anyone your password even them.
the next day.... ten million little 12 year olds have lost their wow account.
Use the following template below to verify your account and information via email.
This gives it away. Also, the "use this template." Did you ever have to send an email with a template to make your account etc?
This gives it away. Also, the "use this template." Did you ever have to send an email with a template to make your account etc?
i have never even used an email template
Don't be a pussy this guy seems legit.
We whould all send them spam answers so they think the legit accounts are fake so they waste thier time [editline]01:30PM[/editline] or send em a load of trial accounts
This mail doesn't even make sense... Lets ASSUME its legit. First off, if they are investigating your account - why would they just drop the investigation if you can provide the information (confirming you're the owner)? Does that justify breaking EULA terms? Secondly, everyone is aware of "Blizzard never asks for password" so why does scammers even pull that one? There are other ways.. Im raging at people's stupidity and ignorance :(
It's fake.

Yeah. There was a loading screen tip saying that "Blizzard employee never asks for your password!" It's true. They never ask for your password. No matter what. If someone asks for your password. they are in fact, trying to scam you.
And answering the thread title: no, i do not try to get scammed What idiot tries to get scammed
Before I even had a WoW account I got emails from Blizzard asking me to send my password and all this other information because my account was being locked or because my account was going to expire for being inactive... The best give away is not owning an account and them asking for your account stuff.
How does the scammer expect to get any usernames back if he's using a fake e-mail address and not giving a reply address..
The tips screen even says: A Blizzard employee will NEVER ask you for your password.

since this is the scam thread. I was wondering, what is a gift of the mysterious? Is it a scam? I got some message about it from someone called Blizzav, in a whisper. I shift+clicked the name, but it said there were 0 players there.
everyone must have seen that tip on the loading screen at LEAST once [editline]10:53PM[/editline]
The tips screen even says: A Blizzard employee will NEVER ask you for your password.
this one
scam if blizzard were to ever whisper you (which they wont, unless you have a ticket open) it opens a new chat window
ok, thanks, though all they said was that I'd recieve someting in three days, it was yesterday.
scam if blizzard were to ever whisper you (which they wont, unless you have a ticket open) it opens a new chat window
is this something new? I havent played in awhile.
wtf? now I'm confused, the only blizzav isn't on fizzcrank. did the person that messaged my erase thier character?
It was probably a level 1. WoWarmory doesn't keep track of characters under level 10.
It was probably a level 1. WoWarmory doesn't keep track of characters under level 10.
but why tell me something about getting a gift, but not ask for any details? they only told me I'm getting something.
but why tell me something about getting a gift, but not ask for any details? they only told me I'm getting something.
You may get something in the mail that asks you to go log in to some site, or something similar. Blizzard doesn't do gifts.
I fell for this once and lost my account for a week. I find it clever how they encrypt the email to disguise it as blizzard employees.
This is world of warcraft, if you haven't tried to be scammed yet you have played less then one month
I fell for this once and lost my account for a week. I find it clever how they encrypt the email to disguise it as blizzard employees.
lolwut?
discount code: gold 4u 10000 gold 98.99 get gold now =]
I find it clever how they encrypt the email to disguise it as blizzard employees.
Holy shit you're stupid. They don't do any sort of "encryption" on the emails, they just type them up to make them look remotely convincing. However, they aren't. Anyone who falls for one is a moron and shouldn't be playing WoW in the first place.

Seemingly, as many times as I've been hacked, it's always been on a weekend. If you follow the address they gave you (usbattle-blizz.net) or some shit like that... It's a login screen; they're attempting to phish your account now. Idiots.
