Olá! Portugal te odeia!
I've found that in Hearts of Iron, Portugal tends to sit on the edge of Europe watching painted grass grow, never getting even remotely involved in a single historical event and generally be boring.
Not any more...
Chapter 1: The Iberian War, 1936

Here is the wondrous nation of Portugal, while small and somewhat backwards, it shall be led to glory under my rule.

Our industry is pathetic and I have set to work herding the inbred farm folk into our outdated factories. Laws and policies have been changed to maximise the current possible output. We have also begun to make friends with the Central Europeans to the east, who share our dream of great consuming nations inciting fear into our ever falling foes...

The Spaniards over the border have begun fighting among themselves, now seems like an excellent time to make use of our neighbors as target practise for our small but effective armies. We declare war on the ill equipped Republicans, forming an unwritten alliance with the Nationalists and move our armies to the border.

The 2nd and 3rd Infantry divisions to the south cut quickly into a poorly defended Republican position on the border while the 1st Infantry struggles with aggression to the north. Our southern attack will be quick and painful to the opposition, slicing deep into the side of their frontline before they can send troops to our position.

The attack is a great success and soon we meet up with the Nationalist main force, little do they know that for the great nation of Portugal, this is more a race to claim territory than a helping hand.
The 1st Infantry was fortunate and were assisted in reclaiming the north by a passing Nationalist cavalry division.

The wise Central Europeans accept us into their alliance, it won't be long before we fight alongside in claiming Europe for ourselves.

The 1st Infantry joins with the rest of the army apart from the recently deployed 4th Infantry who are busy recovering from a rare failed attack on the eastern front. The south is completely undefended and now it is the job of the victorious Portugese armed forces to simply lay claim on as much of Spain as possible before the Republican government surrenders.

It isn't long before the peace treaty is signed and the new national borders are confirmed, Portugal has successfully gained valuable industrial provinces in both factories and resources and now holds a border that only Germany and Poland can rival in shape.
Our next goal should be to secure crude oil reserves, but where?
It's a shame you didn't manage to steal more Spanish territory. I guess you could focus on small places around the map like Denmark and New Zealand. You're not exactly in the best place.
Good start. You should try to take out Nationalist Spaniards, even though they are probably friends with Germany. Then move to the Middle East for colonies.
Go Grab some african soil (For lols)
Take over those middle eastern countries.
Conquer everything.
Spare no one.

yes
I'll update tomorrow, some of the middle east sounds promising although getting my armies there could be difficult. But where's the fun if your only transport ship isn't being shot at by an Arab destroyer?
I need help. I just produced a brigade comprised of 4 (divisions?) of infantry. Where are they? Like how do I know where they are placed?
I just bought the game but am confused on that.

Other way round, brigades make up divisions.
There should be a green symbol at the top of the screen showing a plane, boat and tank that has "Deploy now" when you mouse over it. Click it and the list of constructed units show up, click one and then click on a green highlighted province. (Your home country and all captured countries - that are joined by land)
Thanks. Also how do I put units in transport ships? I know there is a command that does so but I am lost on how to use it.

Hmm, that is what I clicked but I guess I did something wrong.
Lastly, how do I get ships to go back into a port?

Just right-click on the province the port is built in?
Im Portuguese and... oh well, I havent got much to say. We did do some fun things. We fought in the 1st World War, and we were the first nation to create internation colonies, and even becoming one of the most powerful colonie empires.
So you putted Salazar making friends with Hitler. Well, Portugal gave resources to Germany in order to not get attacked, but the allies started warning Portugal to stop doing so. And we stopped. Portugal and the allies pretended to destroy the ships carrying the resources, and said to Hitler that he had to wait more time to get more resources. But the War ended before that.
I'm having massive problems with threat, even after butting into the Spanish Civil War, everybody is inching away from the axis, and if I continue my conquest everybody starts to run away as fast as possible and join the Allies. So unless I can somehow work around this problem it could be a while until I update.
I started again and did as much the same as possible with some differences in the Spanish Civil War and the important fact that I haven't aligned to a faction yet, so they can build up before my threat scares everybody away.
Short chapter since I left out the replay of the Civil War.
Chapter 2: It's just a jump to the left

Our growing nation now encompasses part of the land of small food and silly clothes, but Portugal shall not be satisfied until the world is hers!

Our next target is Ireland, who's independence will be shortlived and who's rowdy rebels will be crushed. The 1st Portugese Army is loaded aboard transport ships and sent to the St. George Channel before war is declared, efficiency is the key to victory (Also bigger guns).

The 2nd Infantry come ashore in Wicklow and advance into Carlow. By the time the pathetic Irish army arrives to retake the coast, soldiers will have moved inland and taken Dublin from the rear.

Ireland falls with minimal resistance, their army quickly turned back to the capital as our men marched across the Liffey, but they surrendered before a shot was fired. Their docks will make a fine stopping point for forces on their way to our next target...

Norway, a nation of snow and more snow. The newly reformed 3rd Infantry after the Iberian War create a diversion in Trondheim while the remainder of the army assault Narvik and Oslo.

After only 3 days at war, Norway falls to the might of Portugal. Their plentiful resources will aid greatly in future wars so the 3rd Infantry remain in Oslo to quell inevitable rebellions in the months to come.
But what does the world look like now?
Exactly the same except Ireland and Norway are green. I'll start adding world maps once real wars start to kick off, at the moment it's just week long strikes at major cities and takeovers without bloodshed.
So far apart from the Iberian War I have lost 8 men.
Why does everyone hate Ireland so much?
Why does everyone hate Ireland so much?
It's completely neutral, has a really small army and is a good place to bounce transports and ships to other European countries.
Wait, you are aligning to a faction right?
You can align to factions just fine, just dont join it untill your ready to have everyone run to the allies.
Also, good idea with ireland, i'll take it tommorow as my slav game, real short on resources right now.
Yeah, I'm completely aligned to the Axis and Germany asks me to join constantly, which I'm not doing until they've annexed Austria at the very least.
So... do you guys know how the whole supply thing works. I was slowly taking over Chile from the north when all of a sudden my guys ran out of supplies in one turn??? Now I can't attack and they move REALLY slowly.
Is there any way to move a supply point closer or get more supplies to come through. The infastructure is about 6 or 7 and I have like 3 levels of supply theory done. Its getting really annoying.

For supplies to get to your units they either need to be on a province joined to your homeland (directly or through other occupied provinces) or within occupied territory connected to a port.

My writing is atrocious.
I get the whole idea but for some reason they will just randomly fall out of supply (sometimes without even moving).
I have the port in Peru in direct connection with my Chilean forces along the coast. The annoying this is that for a while they had perfect supply and then all of a sudden it just stopped for no apparent reason.
Are you producing enough? Do you have enough stockpiled to begin with?
All of this affects whether or not you will have supplies during wartime.
Yes, I have a ton stockpiled.
Land supply line to the port problem or convoys getting raided. Probabily.
Or it might be because you don't have enough HQ units/not close enough to one
