Flotilla is a simultaneous turn-based strategy game by Brendon Chung (the guy who made Gravity Bone). The art style and combat are reminiscent of Homeworld but Flotilla is all about combat and micromanaging each individual ship - there's no resource management or base-building.
Players issue their orders while the game is paused and then their orders are simultaneously carried out in real-time. After 30 seconds the game pauses again and new orders can be issued.
This video explains the combat:
*Online scoreboard. How do you stack up against other captains? Upload your score to the Hall of Fame and find out!
*No adventure is the same. Whenever you begin an adventure, the universe is randomly populated with characters and encounters.
*There is no "up" in space. Explore the tactical richness of full 3D movement. Watch your angles and flank the enemy from all directions.
*Configure your fleet. Find crazy loot throughout your adventures, and install upgrades and artifacts to your flotilla of ships.
*Play with a friend. Grab a buddy and play through the adventure cooperatively in splitscreen.
*Or, blow up your friend. In the Skirmish Mode, set up custom fleets and battle human or computer-controlled enemies.
*Now available for PC. And coming soon to Xbox360 Indie Games.
I can attest that the adventure mode is fantastic for playing coop with a friend. The stories you end up weaving are hilarious. If you play Flotilla you will find out why:
*Yetis in space are a serious problem
*There are downsides to being karaoke champion of the universe
*You shouldn't mess with penguins
What's also nice is that it's being pretty actively developed. Several updates have been released in the past week.

Look really cool. Thanks for the thread; probably wouldn't have found out about it otherwise.
Looks pretty basic really.
I can't see this having long lasting playability.
Battles aren't particularly interesting to watch and the ship animations move as though they're just board game pieces.
But, I'll give the demo a try.
Fun, but it isn't really worth £7 going by the demo. If there was abit more to the combat and it was on STEAM for about £5 I'd consider getting it.
Really fucking hard. The randomization means that I keep coming across enemies who are massively out of my league, and the death=restart rule makes it even more frustrating. I do enjoy the combat, when the AI isn't predicting my every move and spawning Beam Gunships all over the place.
Trying to launch gives me "Floatilla has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution"

Beam Gunships are pretty easy to counter, just keep your ships away, and have one of your destroyers attack above one, and the other under one.

The major weakness of the beam-ship is range and defense. The fact that if you stay out of range and simply fire at the flat sides should be enough to counter then.
Well it looks pretty basic, downloading the demo.
The title of the thread is pretty epic, I had hoped for detailed combat, slow moving massive battle ships, gravitational physics and overall something like homeworld only more epic :/
This game was pretty fun. I bought it and I play this game in my spare time. My only gripe about this game is that it is a murder simulator, killing people is so realistic in this game.

Well that part is in there.
I'm a big Homeworld fan and I think that the turn-based part of Flotilla really helps. One thing that I don't like about Homeworld is that it's just too difficult to take full advantage of 3D strategy in real-time. I don't like having time pressure. Flotilla lets you take your time and fully plan out every move.
does this game have crocodiles in it that snap. if so it has my download.
I like the retro feel of it, may give it a whirl.
Can you rotate your ships?
The second he spoke of ships having weakest armor at the bottom, I thought of making an attack move that tells me ship to go upwards, but turn upside down. That would be awesome.

Yep, you can pick the orientation of your ship when moving.
Damn, ten adventures in the demo and I'm still getting new things...
Managed to have an awesome face-off against four battleships, after I'd collected the Crocodile and his Beam Frigate, along with the Torpedo Gunship the Scientists give you.
A few deer decided to be silly and wanted me to pay, but I was like 'lol-no', and decided to fight their destroyers or whatever...and found four star-destroyer-esque battleships.
The beam-frigate closed within range to kill the first battleship, but in doing so it got blown to bits by the others. The torpedo-gunship drew fire away from the destroyers as it closed in, trying to get to the bottom armour, but it aimed up to get a bead and was blown to hell by a salvo to its bottom.
Fortunately, it'd distracted them long enough for me to get a destroyer into 'focus fire' position beneath the nearest battleship, which promptly went bewm.
Now, I didn't exactly see two battleships against two destroyers as good odds at that point, and hit smite.
Smite blew one of the battleships up...and the scrapnel tore into the second, blowing it up as well!
I need to get this game when it comes out on steam.
Looks cool.
Gonna give it a whirl. Seems interesting enough.
It was fun. Not fun enough to buy it though.
I enjoyed it enough to purchase.
I got the demo and I was sold, and now I'm the proud owner of the title of intergalactic karaoke champion. Seriously, it's in the game.
It pops up quite bit in the demo too.
My only qualm with the game is the length of adventure. Limiting you is incredibly annoying especially since when I finally start building up my flotilla the game ends. I hope he continues to work on this due to the immense possibilities for it.

Adventure has a length limit? D:
Ui ripped pretty much right from homeworld 2.

Are those hiigaran battlecruisers on the bottom there?

sure as hell resembles one.
The combat controls were confusing at first, but after getting used it, the game was totally clutch.

Bro.
Got the game.
I keep dying of space AIDs when things get intresting >.>
Seriously this game needs a trainer which disables the "terminal illness", I had an awesome game where I helped the Cats (I need their theme by the way, it's awesome), had 4 destroyers and 2 beam gunships, was about to go on a crusade to rid the world of evil. Except I died of space-disease at the next planet.
I would love to have the hitchhiker and cat themes if anyone has them by the way.
Also, who the hell are the Implementors?

I don't see that as a problem though.
Looks like a glorified version of Asteroids

Quite different, try it out. The demo is more than enough to get you hooked.
