Commandos
Commandos is a real time tactical strategy game set during World War II starring a group of commandos each with their own unique ability to accomplish their objectives. With missions based on famous real life events, books and films.
Gameplay
Gameplay is like your stand RTS game with the exception of base building and resource collecting, as well as only having a limited group of men to order. Mostly stealth oriented like sneaking in behind enemy lines slowly and carefully or by knocking out Nazis and taking their uniform as disguises. Battles are a mix of tactical firefights requiring a good usage of traps, environmental positioning and ambushes. Most of the game has you controlling the 7 lead commandos. Which includes a green beret, a sniper, a marine, a sapper, a driver, a spy and a thief. Each with their own selection of weapons and tools as well as natural abilities.
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines

This was the first game which used an isometric view and focuses on tactical warfare and stealth. The plot is basically about after the evacuation of most of the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk, Lieutenant Colonel Dudley Clarke of the Royal Artillery put forward the idea of small units capable of penetrating the enemy's line and sabotaging communication, industrial and military targets. On which, Winston Churchill approved. The game's missions took place mostly on Northwestern Europe. You get to kidnap a Nazi officer, blow up a bridge, rescue captured Allied forces and lots of more stuff.
Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty

A standalone expansion of Behind Enemy Lines with missions taking place before, during and after the first game. With missions covering other areas of Europe as well.
Commandos 2: Men of Courage

A direct full sequel with a brand new psuedo-3D engine and view. This time the game now revolves most of the major events in World War II around the world with the Western Front and the Pacific theatre. Missions variety is pretty good ranging from stealing a submarine, destroying an aircraft base and assassinating a tyrant.
Commandos 3: Destination Berlin

The fourth sequel incorporating a full 3D engine with a rotatable view. The plot takes place before, during and after the first games with most of the missions taking place on major Allied victory points including the Russians on Stalingrad and the Americans on Omaha Beach.
Commandos: Strike Force

The fifth installment with a new FPS view while retaining some of the tactical and stealth gameplay of the first games. The game now has a new set of characters and has limited the commandos into 3, which is a green beret, a spy and a sniper. Taking place during the invasion of France, battle on Norway and the defense on Stalingrad.

I found Men of Courage the best, had one the best gameplay and missions. The rest are pretty great too except for Strike Force which is pretty mediocre, but still had some good parts.
I love these games! I have the third one on disc. Bought it a long time ago. The games are so immensely hard. I never made it past the first three levels. (One starting level per campaign.) Hilariously bad I know, but I still love them.
The first one is worth playing, definately.
Bought these games in the pack from the holiday sale back in December; they are challenging. But still extremely fun.
I grew up with these games. Never shall I forget that I cheated all the time as a child.
I played the first two, they are hard, but worth the time to beat without cheating.
There is so many ways to win
Behind Enemy Lines was the best. The slight lag from the Men of Courage when carrying out orders annoyed me. In Behind Enemy Lines you wanted something done, BAM! They did it like that. In Men of Courage they had to turn around, start moving towards their destination, stop, turn again, and then kill the bastard. I prefer minimum screwing around when it comes to this sort of thing.
I remember playing the second one, was hard at times. The missions get very hard.
Still cool game.
Those are some huge nipples on the Commandos 2 cover.
Ah yes, Commandos... These games made me go bald for a period. Great games, but as people have mentioned, extremely hard and unforgiving.
I used to play these. There was this level with a tank in Commandos III which I got stuck at, never got past it. I think it was a PzIII.
"Anyone remember this series?"
Yes! Everyone remembers commandos!
I nostalgiad all over my keyboard.
I loved this game.
