Hunger Games is a Minecraft mod (based on the book) where you put 150 people in an arena and let them battle it out to the death. You have to make all of your supplies and then at the end there is a "feast" with diamond armors and weapons to help you win the game.
A "kit" is pretty much a bonus for your character that you pick at the start of the game. Kits like Lumberjack give you a hatchet that cuts down trees from the bottom to the top automatically, and kits like Miner let you spawn with a pickaxe.

Yeah, it's a nice gametype, but the auto-ban is utter shit, I've been banned twice now for being near the height limit, which is apparently hacking.
