• Are you really excited about Episode 3?

I see many posts saying "Bring Episode 3 already damnit" or "If you say Gabe is fat, Episode 3 delayed" and so on. Now I'm wondering this: Are you really so excited of Episode 3 OR are you doing this out of habit? Don't get me wrong, Half-Life 2 and it's episodes are really fun, there's no doubt about that, but I'm not THAT excited about EP3. It would be great to play it, yes, but it's not that urgent for me to say:"Bring EP3 out already. I can't wait for it". When it comes, it comes. (If it comes) There are many more games to play now, even Valve games (TF2, Portal, Left 4 Dead,...). When Episode 3 is ready, we will get a chance to play it.
That's because it's kinda hard to get excited about a game on which strictly no PR has been done yet. That said, it doesn't mean you can't "not expect" a game that might come, because well, Half-Life is awesome and that's it
3 years without any news from the release of Episode Two. They forgot about it.
Episode Three. Do you guys remember what happened to the original TF2 concept? >_<
We want ep. 3 for the story.
I want to see what I'm actually going to be excited about. A teaser will do. I know Valve will deliver, but I can wait.
WHO DA FAWK IS GMAN... all i want to know, but yea, pretty excited about the game, hopefully Portal 2 will have some info about it
WHO DA FAWK IS GMAN... all i want to know, but yea, pretty excited about the game, hopefully Portal 2 will have some info about it
Valve have said they don't want to accent the link between the games in Portal 2, probably because they realised that portal simply doesn't fit in the HL universe, as much as Aperture science does (see: Co-Op Bots).
I'm mostly excited to see what is taking them so long. I mean, they must be doing some awesome things for it to take this long, right? ...right?
I want a new engine or at least a super trim super optimized super sexy Source engine. Although from what has been seen in L4D, L4D2, Alien Swarm, and now Portal 2 it looks like its same old source with a new coat of paint. :frown:
Gabe is fat.
Episode 3 will suck to many people because of OVERHYPING
Episode 3 will suck to many people because of OVERHYPING
With that logic you could go ahead and say HL2 sucks because it doesn't adhere to flashy cut-scenes and over dramatic action sequences. Valve has a nifty little player/character driven story telling that works, Ep3 will be no different. I don't see how anyone can overhype something we expect.

You just have one Engine for (almost) all your games and if one game comes with an update, fix or optimization, it applies to all games. All Source games look beautiful on my end and have a very solid FPS rate of ~100. The exception being TF2, but we all know that one needs polishing anyway. Source basically never gets old because it's constantly being updated, so why build a new engine? I wish the industry could just keep that level of graphics and concentrate on other stuff like gameplay or storytelling. Half-Life 2 looks beautiful on my end and it's running very, very smoothly. Especially the characters look great in my opinion. On topic, I always get excited right after realizing game XYZ is gonna be great from what I've gathered at that point, but this excitement often vanishes with the next day or so. Same here. I mainly want Episode 3 because of Valve's storytelling mechanics. I played through Half-Life 2 and Left4Dead like through any other game until the Developer's Commentary blew me away and made me realize there's detail and little stories told everywhere. You know how in school you always had to interpret all kinds of shit into paragraphs even if you didn't believe yourself that there was an actual meaning behind this? Valve does exactly that, they hide these "secret little stories" everywhere, there's detail and exploration space everywhere and I only found out about this after going through the Developer's Commentary. So for Episode 3 I want to play through the game with my eyes open and I want to appreciate the complete world and its design to the fullest this time. I'll probably still miss some things, but I'm sure this way I'll already get an enriched experience. Because if Valve showed me one thing with (most of) their games, it's that they know how to use the medium correctly for interactive storytelling. Games have unique advantages and disadvantages at telling a story and Valve knows how to compensate for the disadvantages and explore the advantages. They aren't the game forging gods, but they're the only group of people I fanboy for.
stuff
Didn't say I hate source. Ive said this about 50 times on these forums because people here seem to be Valve fanboys to the extreme. I said Source is old, dated, etc. Source is a good engine for what it is used for, the modding capabilities are nice too. You mentioned graphics and said keep them the same? They aren't real enough yet so that isn't going to happen. Valve likes immersive games and the more real the graphics and effects the better.
i was saying MANY PEOPLE
What did you think I was responding to? I was merely saying that the kinds of people who will overhype and say it sucks are usually those people who say HL2 sucks because it doesn't play like Halo.

I also said Source doesn't get old because it's constantly being updated. It's modular. Portal brought some liquid physics or so I think, DOTA is supposed to bring us true cloth simulation, etc. Vorts don't look like this anymore either. I said for me Source has reached a level of graphics that's good enough for me and I don't need further investment in that area unless Valve thinks they need a specific addition - like the liquid physics in Portal. I'm satisfied. Doesn't mean it will stop getting better.
Yeah I'm pretty exited about Episode 3. Because of this radio silence I expect Valve to be crafting something nobody expects. I don't think it'll be 'just another episode' like Episode 2 was.
Episode 3 will suck to many people because of OVERHYPING
Actually, I'm expecting it to be as good, if not better, than episode 2, which was amazing.
Think of it this way, why would Valve drop everything related to their #1 best selling game that created the #1 best selling computer mod (and forum, herp) It wouldn't make sense, it's like Steve Jobs saying that because Ipods sell so much, I wont release another one.
Not right now, but when It's finnaly annouced for release with trailers and screen shots and gameplay then... :holy:
My excitement is dying down slowly due to the lack of any announcements or new information.
Once Valve gives us a release date, then shit's gonna go down. Until then I'm basically waiting to die.
I want it, but at this point, I generally won't care until I hear official word on it.
Not that excited, but I'm looking forward to it. Really the only games I were really excited about were Halo and Black Ops...
I'm not. Never liked Half Life, never will. More excited for Portal 2.
I can't be excited about a game that has had no significant media releases in over three years. I don't know how anyone can be.. I mean the most we've seen about the game is a few bits of concept art over two years ago.
I can't wait for it to actually come out, but i'm not too bothered right now because there has been no news about it for several years. More excited for Portal 2 right now.
I have managed to put my excitement to sleep until we get some info about it, i'm tired of frustration
