What is League of Legends?
If you're familiar with WC3, and the DotA series (DotA, DotA: Allstars, etc.) that spawned from it, here's an article to get you started: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/articles/dota_and_lol
For those not familiar with DotA, the gameplay of League of Legends can best be described as a session-based action RPG. Prior to the start of every game, you select one of the game's many champions to control. You start the game at level one, with a small amount of gold and no items. Your main goal for every match is to destroy the enemy "Nexus", a structure found within the heart of the enemy team's base. To get to that point, you first must fight your way past hordes of computer controlled monsters (also known as minions), which continuously spawn from the enemy base, as well as the champions controlled by the enemy team. The base is also protected by structures called turrets, which also must be destroyed. Whichever team destroys the other's Nexus first is the winner. At the end of every game (no matter whether you win or lose), players gain experience to level up their Summoners (more on this later) and "Influence Points", or I.P for short, to use as a form of currency to purchase champions and runes. League of Legends is very much a team game, and that being said, being the best isn't necessarily enough. You must coordinate with your team to control the map, to defend yourselves against the other team, and to eventually win the game.
Why should I play League of Legends over (insert DotA-like game)?
* Automated matchmaking, to make finding a game easy.
* The ability to reconnect to games if you have disconnected.
* Client-server network model with no host advantage.
* Advanced stat tracking.
* Built-in surrender functionality.
* In-game interface and controls designed for this style of play.
* Account-level progression, adding out-of-game strategic depth and customization, known as the summoner system.
* Regular updates with many more features to come!
* An improved mini-map that shows your Champions pathing.
* Multiple maps (Summoner's Rift, Twisted Treeline, The Proving Grounds, more to come over time. A new map called "Magma Chamber" has been announced.)
* Features that make teaching the game to your friends easier. (in game tutorial, bots, suggested items)
* :siren: Completely, 100%, absolutely FREE. (no joke) :siren:
Game Mechanics:
Summoner Spells
Summoners are allowed the use of two Summoner spells during any fight in the Fields of Justice. Summoners can use spells which heal their champion, or teleport their champion to a select place on the map, or fortify their team's turret defenses, and a slew of other game-impacting results. Summoner spells, once used, remain unavailable until their respective cooldown wears off. As a Summoner gains experience and levels up, new Summoner spells become available for use.
[img_thumb]http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7036/spellsl.png[/img_thumb]
Masteries
A summoner put points gained upon leveling up into three categories of masteries - offense, defense, and utility. Some of the more advanced masteries require investment in lesser masteries. Summoner masteries are not set in stone; depending on which champion you want to play, masteries may be changed to better suit your needs. You can even set them when selecting your champion before a match, so if your favorite champion is taken, you can change your masteries to better suit another.
[img_thumb]http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/4304/masteries.png[/img_thumb]
Runes
Before queuing for a match, a Summoner can make use of Runes to augment their champion's fighting abilities. There are four kinds of Runes a Summoner can use: glyphs, marks, seals, and quintessences. Before a match begins, a Summoner can choose from one of up to nine different rune configurations they have previously set in their Runebook. This allows the Summoner maximum flexibility in choosing a Runebook best suited for whatever champion they might use. You CANNOT change these while selecting your champion, so it is important that you have another rune page setup... just in case your favorite champion is chosen.

Here is the official list of all the champions in the game:
http://www.leagueoflegends.com/champions
Every champion has a role to play. Here the general archetypes of champions found within the game:
Tanks : They have the most health, the most armor, and the most magic resistance. These are the champions that initiate team fights and soak all the damage. They don't generally get as many kills as other champions, but they are great at getting assists. Some of them can force champions into attacking them, some of them can stun, while some of them have forms of "crowd control" which affect the entire enemy team.
Fighters : These champions deal damage per second, or DPS. They rely on armor penetration, attack damage, and attack speed to get the job done. Some of them are tougher than others, and some of them have abilities which augment their attack speed, or their attack damage, or even their movement speed.
Mages: Mages are capable of extreme burst damage, and rely heavily on items that give them bonus magic penetration and ability power. Most of them are out of luck when their abilities are on cooldown.
Support : These are the champions that support the team. They save the lives of their team mates, whilst simultaneously making life a living hell for the other team. They don't get many kills, but they do win games.

Q: Is it difficult to unlock champions?
Not really. For one thing, Riot selects ten new champions every week. For that week, the champions they selected are free to play. However, if you want to purchase a champion forever, you can use the Influence Points you earn while playing the game. Champions cost various amounts of I.P, from 450 I.P all the way up to 6300 I.P. Winning a game, on average, nets you a bit more than 100 I.P. If it's your first win of the day, it's usually around 250 I.P. Losing games even nets you around 70 I.P. The free champions give you a taste, whilst I.P is primarily used to unlock the champions you really liked when they were free.
If you're lazy, you can also buy Riot Points with real money to unlock champions. Riot Points are also used to buy champion skins; you can't use I.P to buy those (that's how they make money and keep the game free). Riot is firm about "buying power", however, and you cannot buy runes with Riot Points.
Q: My friend and I want to play in the same game. Can we?
Of course! If you're new, you might want to stick with the practice mode before you move onto the normal or ranked mode. People in the normal and ranked modes know what they are doing, especially the players in the ranked mode. You and your friend can practice against bots and get a feel of the game itself in practice mode.
Q: I'm amazing at DotA and everything else DotA related, why should I bother?
LoL has had several competitive tournaments in the past. There are more coming up, so if you're seriously good and want to make some cash and win prizes, you can.
Q: How do I sign up?
Signing up is free, but I'm going to give you two options here. I'd like it if you could give me a referral, because signing up through me does benefit me in the end, but you also don't have to if you don't want to. I'm not going to trick you into signing up through me. Also, keep in mind that I only get rewards when your in-game Summoner reaches level 10. If you do sign-up through me and like the game, please keep playing!
Click here to sign up using my referral.
Click here if you just want to sign up without a referal.
Q: I'm signed up. Now what?
* Start off with the tutorial mode. Learn the basic controls, game play mechanics, etc.
* Once you have a good handle on that, start a practice game and add bots. Bots give you a chance to explore the map, and try out champions without having to worry about playing well. Bots are stupid, so don't expect them to be on par with actual players (Except the "Ryze" bot. He's actually pretty decent and you might want to avoid using him at first).
* If you have a handle on bots and feel like you know the map and a champion, try a practice game with people. Look for "new players only" or "levels 1-5" or something similar.
* Look up character guides on the official forum and on Leaguecraft.
* Join a solo queue, and don't get owned.

Terminology
AD, AP, MR, AR
Attack Damage, Ability Power, Magic Resist, and Armor
Carries
Champs who aren't great early in the game, but are extremely powerful later on.
Top, Mid, Bot
The three lanes in the 5v5 map, Summoners Rift. There are only top and bot in the 3v3 map, Twisted Treeline. Since mid has the shortest distance from your team's minion spawn to the middle, most of the time your strongest team member will solo mid. Generally your AP carry will solo mid.
Push
Aggressively killing off a wave of enemy minions so you can get at their tower, or force your enemy to stay under their tower, so they can't do anything.
Gank
Basically a surprise attack. If you are suddenly surrounded by 3 enemies, you've been ganked. A common tactic to gank someone is to tell your teammate(s) to wait in a bush and let them push you until you are under your tower. If they take the bait, the distance back to their tower will be quite large.
Jungle
The areas between the lanes filled with neutral creeps. Junglers spend their early game in here, allowing 2 lanes to solo and opening many gank opportunities since they don't know where you are.
recall, blue pill, b
To use your recall ability and teleport back to base. It is hotkeyed as the b key. b in some cases might also mean "back" as in "get back". Depends on the context.
mia, miss
Missing in action. That means that an enemy champion has left the line of sight of your team. They could be jungling, have recalled or is setting up a gank. Best play it safe when many enemy champs are mia. You can call mia by saying the champion name then mia ("urgot mia"), or saying what lane has champions mia ("top mia").
Ping
Hotkeyed under g. Click on somewhere to ping that area. You can also ping the minimap. Pings can signify who to attack, where to go, or where you think mia players are headed.
Stacks, Snowball
Items that start out weak, but get more powerful after getting kills or assists while they're in your inventory. A fraction of gained stacks are lost upon death.
4800 IP for Trundle is bullshit
4800 IP for Trundle is bullshit
I've never seen him played well so far - and his abilities seem meh. Needs a buff.
4800 IP for Trundle is bullshit
Are they still going to make 3150 champs, or stop like they did with the 450/1350?
Are they still going to make 3150 champs, or stop like they did with the 450/1350?
I hope Riot decided to have a bit of fun and "troll" us with a 4800 IP champ, but if 4800/6300 are the new prices I will probably quit the game
I miss when prices were based off hero difficulty
Fitting thread title Rilez
Am I the only one who thinks the Brolaf skin sucks? Or at least isn't worth the twenty fucking dollars they are asking for it?
Am I the only one who thinks the Brolaf skin sucks? Or at least isn't worth the twenty fucking dollars they are asking for it?
I like the skin, it isn't worth $20 though.
I tried Trundle and he's pretty fun
I hope Riot decided to have a bit of fun and "troll" us with a 4800 IP champ, but if 4800/6300 are the new prices I will probably quit the game

You have to remember that Champions and skins are their only real income. Besides, playing a couple games a day means you get a steady flow of IP.
You have to remember that Champions and skins are their only real income. Besides, playing a couple games a day means you get a steady flow of IP.
Runes and the pre-existing 60 champions mean new players will have to make tough choices when it comes to champs. Worse still is that a player may buy a champion who looks cool only to find out they are near-worthless (Eve, Alistar, etc.)
I'm going to update this post with Trundle's ability numbers in the next 10 or 15 minutes
updated as I go along
Rabid Bite
Trundle bites instead of using his club, dealing flat damage and a percentage of his AD. On-next-hit attack, like Devastating Blow or Siphoning Strike. Steals AD from your enemy (they lose half the value you gain)
Interesting mechanic where Trundle actually lunges at his enemy when he attacks. Basically it increases your attack range slightly, and when you attack you charge a very slight distance at your enemy
Flat Damage: 30/45/60/75/90
AD Ratio 80/90/100/110/120%
Stolen Damage 20/25/30/35/40 (buff/debuff lasts 8 seconds; opponent loses half of the stolen AD)
40 Mana
4 second CD
Contaminate
Big AoE/range, check the spotlight.
Movespeed 20/25/30/35/40 %
Attack Speed 20/30/40/50/60 %
CC Reduction 20/25/30/35/40 %
60 Mana
15 second CD
Pillar of Filth
Slow 25/30/35/40/45
60 Mana
23/20/17/14/11 second CD
Agony
Initial Healthsteal 100/175/250 (0.6 AP ratio)
Initial Armor/MR steal 15/20/25%
75 Mana
80 second CD
Decompose
When something dies, returns between 2-6% of their max health depending on your level. This goes at flat increments (e.x. from 2% to 3%) at certain levels. AFAIK:
Level 1: 2%
Level 5: 3%
Level 10: 4%
just an fyi if I'm away and the thread closes again don't make a new thread unless I ask someone to
Might want to change the free champs, that week is over
just an fyi if I'm away and the thread closes again don't make a new thread unless I ask someone to
no this is kogmaw's thread
aww cool v4
money has it trundle is only 4800 because riot got butthurt when people complained about no new 450/1350 champs
Lmao that comic is hilarious.
I wanted the thread title to be "Crit Garen Best Garen" :saddowns:
Trundles seems like an insane laner like Morde or Heimer.
I think it would be a waste for him to jungle.
Trundles seems like an insane laner like Morde or Heimer.
I think it would be a waste for him to jungle.
its preference
I see him as a better jungler since he has to get close to people to Q them all the time so some poker like ashe or janna makes his life really tough
Contaminate and Decompose would give him MASSIVE lane control though. The ONLY THING that he has going for him as a jungler would be his passive and his Q.
Another thing that makes a champ a great jungler is how good they are at ganking. Since he is tough/tanky and doesn't have a stun, there's really no reason for him to be jungling.
Yay new thread!
So tell me, FP bros, is Trundle any good/worth 4800? Because the wound that is known as Urgot is still stinging
He seems to me like a Nasus type champ. Tough melee that's great at 1v2 laning.
hi guise
Another thing that makes a champ a great jungler is how good they are at ganking. Since he is tough/tanky and doesn't have a stun, there's really no reason for him to be jungling.
He has Pillar which is a one-point wonder
He seems to me like a Nasus type champ. Tough melee that's great at 1v2 laning.
Nasus can sit back and farm with his AoE, Trundle doesn't have that luxury
then again Nasus needs Q last hits anyway so yeah I guess they're not that different
48 minutes left on the update.
God damn it. I miss my real internet ;;
Sheen looks like an obvious choice on trundle
i have some champion ideas that i thought up during school and drew pictures, but my scanner doesnt work so i will just do the typing now and post pictures later
1) Moneybags, the Lavish Rodent
Moneybags is Twitch's brother. He looks like twitch in pretty much every way except that Moneybags stands up tall like a human. He wears beggar's clothes and/or potato sacks. He has a bad habit of not spending his money on anything and hoarding it in his gold sack that he carries on his back. He has eyes shaped like diamonds and a giant nose. He is a melee dps champion that dual wields gold filled blackjacks.
Q - Money Shot -Moneybags hits an enemy at melee range with one of his blackjacks and stuns them for 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds. On hit, money flies out of Moneybag's blackjack and damages units behind them. The more gold you have that is not spent on you, the more damage the secondary attack does. (75/150/225/300/375 magic damage, 0.5 ap ratio.)
W - Gold Rush - Moneybags goes into a frenzy and turns into a gold-colored blur (sort of like kennen's lightning rush, except with gold falling out of his sack behind him) and gains 15/30/45/60/75 bonus movement speed for 2 seconds. Any hero that gets hit by him while in this state lose 2/6/11/17/25 gold. Does not do damage.
E - Golden Shower - Moneybags grabs into his sack and throws a bunch of gold into the air. Gold rains down 1 second later and magic damages enemies for 50/100/150/200/250 in the area. Does 5 more damage for every 100 gold in your pocket. (No ap ratio)
R - Heist (Ultimate) - Moneybags gets in melee range of a hero and grabs him (sort of like warwick's ultimate, except hes just holding him) for 3 seconds and squeezes him. Does 100/175/250 magic damage per second. Also steals 50 gold per second that he squeezes them. (0.7 ap ratio)
Passive - Greed - Moneybags fills up his sack more and more for the more kills in a row without dieing. When he dies, the money in his sack explodes instantly for magic damage. Adds 100 damage every 2 kills. Moneybags revives/starts with 100 damage.
2) Drewist, the Blind Ranger
Drewist is a forest hermit that has honed his archery skills and senses so that he is deadly in combat, even though he is blind. Drewist has a red headband around his eyes, concealing his empty eye sockets. He wears green leather padded armor and a red cloak that he wears around his head and drapes like a cape around his legs. Ranged dps.
Q - Bear Trap - Drewist lays down a bear traps (channels for 1 second) and covers it up with leaves. (so it is invisible to enemies) When an enemy champion steps onto it, it snares them for .5/1/1.5/2/2.5 seconds and does 50/60/70/80/90 damage per second that they are snared. (0.6 ap ratio)
W - Rain of Arrows - Drewist shoots a barrage of arrows into the sky, letting them fall into an area 1 second later. Any enemies standing in the area are snared and damaged for 50/100/150/200/250 damage. (0.5 ap ratio)
E - Quickdraw - When used, Drewist gains 10/20/30/40/50% attack rate for 5 seconds.
R - Quiver - Drewist grabs his quiver on his back and flings it forward in a cone, letting hundreds of areas fill the air. Any enemies that are in the cone bleed for 80/120/160 damage per second for 3 seconds and slowed 20/30/40%. Drewist is unable to autoattack 2 seconds afterwards due to his loss of arrows.
Passive - Blind Luck - Every 5 casts of Quickdraw, Drewist's first arrow to shoot out blinds the enemy.
phew, that took a while to type.
Contaminate and Decompose would give him MASSIVE lane control though. The ONLY THING that he has going for him as a jungler would be his passive and his Q.

gragas is a good jungler and he can gank with his ground slam
slows count as ganking tools as well, plus lizard+ghost
What makes Warwick so good at jungling, according to all the high-elo players? I mean, how does he control it any more than anyone else?
