• Steam version of Max Payne 2 is a pirated version

Someone on the Steam boards basically found out that instead of removing the protection themselves, Rockstar decided to use an old no cd crack made by a pirating group for the Steam release. Heres the picture which shows the logo of the pirating group MYTH (you have to make the page smaller to see it properly, but its there) The original thread on the steam boards: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1263556
If it ain't broke...
...Don't fix it.
...Don't fix it.
Nice ninja edit.
nice ninja edit.
WHA-CHA! Derp.
:siren:
Using a no-cd crack is not pirating.
That'll show them!!!!!!!!
Using a no-cd crack is not pirating.
yeah, downloading a patch so that you don't have to have the cd to play the game the right way is not pirating at all :downs:
It isn't... Pirating is stealing. You can't steal an option or ability to not use somethig. That is the opposite of piray.
No-CD cracks are included in all pirated versions of retail games. How do you think you're able to play them without owning them? It's common sense.
No-CD cracks are included in all pirated versions of retail games. How do you think you're able to play them without owning them? It's common sense.
I've installed a no-CD crack on all of my games, each of which is fully paid for and legal. Editing an .exe file that is included in a game you PAID for is not pirating.
Less work on their side. MYTH will be happy though in one way or another.
eh, terrible context in which to use the pun but a good pun in general, i am disappoint
Terrible meme. Stop using it.
Why is this news? Pirates aren't the only ones that use no-CDs.
Do the pirates care that the publisher pirated their software?
Why is this news? Pirates aren't the only ones that use no-CDs.
Well Rockstar can take the time to make their own way of removing CD detection, rather then stealing one. Well, after I wrote that sentence, I saw the irony in it all, but still.
No-CD cracks are included in all pirated versions of retail games. How do you think you're able to play them without owning them? It's common sense.
That's horrible logic.
What would be more ironical than Developers warezing from piraters' warez Not talking about the OP here
Actually cracks are against DMCA 1998. Not like I give a shit anyway.
No-CD cracks are included in all pirated versions of retail games. How do you think you're able to play them without owning them? It's common sense.
That still doesn't make it pirating. Your argument is the same as saying having a copy of someone else's car key is car-theft.
That's not a very good comparison. Didn't you hear? Copying =/= Theft. Piracy is copying. Making a key of someone else's car would lead to you then stealing it because why the fuck would you copy a key? If you copied the key because it's your car and you lost the old key then it makes sense.
Actually cracks are against DMCA 1998. Not like I give a shit anyway.
:golfclap: I think Rockstar is within their rights in this particular case as they own the software and are therefore not attempting to circumvent their own copy protection but rather remove it completely. They own the rights to the software, so it's not like these pirates are going to sue them for stealing their illegal crack.
http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ No-cd crack are not illegal. [editline]time[/editline] No-cd cracks that also crack the serial/verification protection however are.
It's a grey area, The point is Steam and their vaunted anti-piracy has Pirated files in distribution.
It's a grey area, The point is Steam and their vaunted anti-piracy has Pirated files in distribution.
Nothing is pirated. It's a legit copy of the game with a no-CD crack implemented by Rockstar, not Valve, to get rid of the CD check.
What the shit? Well I guess it doesn't matter as long as the game works.
No-CD cracks are included in all pirated versions of retail games. How do you think you're able to play them without owning them? It's common sense.
Games are included in all pirated versions of retail games, that means all games are pirated. :downs:
We are all aware it's not pirated. The point that you all should be taking from this is that Rockstar is using an executable that was included with a pirated version. Stop saying it's not pirated.
Whoo!
