Right first off, I have very little experience with MMO's, Eve Online was good for a while but most of my friends gave up, so I did too.
Definate No-No's
WoW
Runescape
I used to like the sims online before it got closed down *sigh*, I generally would look for a roleplaying type game that has house-type abilities, being able to fish, mine, fighting type abilites. I do like space type games
I want a game that is Free OR Lower-priced monthly than WoW
If the game is a monthly subscription then I want a trial that I can try out without any credit card's needed
I have 15 GB of space left on my hard drive
I have a 100kb/s download speed
Come up with suggestions please facepunch and post questions if necessary.
Thanks :)
Ok, I crossed out Age of Conan immediately. I was going to suggest Everquest 2 it has housing, all kinds of crafting etc but it has the same monthly fee as WoW if I'm not mistaken, and loads of xpacs to buy (although getting everything isn't to expensive) plus it isn't AS active as it used to be. But there is roleplay there...
Honestly the MMO that comes to mind first is DDO. I'm not sure if it has housing to be honest, but heres some perks you may like:
It's free to play, but you have limitations. You can either buy adventure packs and other stuff by buying points and own them permanently, or pay the 15 dollars a month have EVERYTHING unlocked, but only if you keep paying the 15 dollars. In the short run the 15 dollars is cheaper.
I don't think I've heard about much RP, but it exists maybe..
Actually a better alternative is LOTRO. But I think with all updates downloaded and xpac installed it's more than 15 g.
Not sure if it comes with housing (it might), but it has lots of nice crafting. It's mainly a PvE focused game, and has good RP as far as I've heard. The monthly fee however is the same as WoW. Buying the game is cheap though as I've seen it for 10-20 dollars for original and 20-30 for xpac.
LOTRO does have a trial. DDO is free so you can try that out.
DDO is about 7-8 g, LOTRO I'm pretty sure is above 13, and that was awhile ago without the expansion. Updates and all, it's probably higher than 15..
Can't think of any space type games sorry.
Edit - Everquest 2 again did fit the picture with housing, crafting, roleplaying and all though. If you find an active community and server, it could be your best option after LOTRO. It also has a trial.
I suggest Warhammer Online. It's got a trial.
Prices are:
1 Month - £8.99
3 Months - £25.17
6 Months - £46.14
(I don't know if these are lower that WoW as I've never played WoW, but I imagine that they're probably the same, if not less than WoWs)
I'm pretty sure you don't need a card to play the trial.
It's 11GBs big
However, I only just read the bit in your post where you said you like do to all that crafting and collecting crap. In WAR, the only thing you'll really be collecting is the skulls of the opposing realm.
There is a crafting system, but really you will have to play the trial yourself to see what you think of it.
There are roleplaying guilds/groups of people. Doesn't take much hunting to find some roleplaying action, especially since there are roleplaying servers aswell.
Also worth mentioning.. War focuses heavily around PVP, so the PvE aspect to it may not be nearly as good. I've never tried it myself, so I can't give an opinion on it.
I wouldn't suggest war. Still has the same technical issues it had at release now.
