Discuss the game here.
Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is a tactical first-person shooter computer game based on its predecessor Red Orchestra Mod. After winning the Make Something Unreal contest, the team behind the original Red Orchestra started the game studio Tripwire Interactive. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 was the first game developed by Tripwire Interactive.
Set on the Eastern Front during World War II between 1941 and 1945, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 depicts the struggle between Soviet and German forces. The game's creators, Tripwire Interactive, developed the game out of the previous Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, Red Orchestra: Combined Arms.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 concentrates mostly on the multiplayer aspect of the game, although there is a singleplayer "Practice" mode available. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 features an advanced ballistics system for both small arms and tank rounds - incorporating bullet drop, flight time, and tanks with more realistic armor properties than most games (featuring: penetration and deflection, in relation to range and projectile trajectory angle). The player's movements are realistically modeled, giving them the ability to lie and move prone, sprint (while standing or crouching) and to deploy machine guns on objects.
Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is notable for its emphasis on realism in comparison to other WWII-based FPS games. There is no "crosshair" for a player to aim with in the middle of their screen; instead, the player must either aim down the three-dimensional iron sights, or aim from the hip using the game's free-aim system. The former requires compensating for the breathing of the character and natural sway from holding the gun, while the latter is much quicker but only accurate at very short range. The player must also keep track of their ammo usage mentally unlike many other FPS games, most of which use an ammunition counter. Additionally, the player's health status is not represented by "health points" as many other games use, but by a diagram of the player's body with reddened sections that show where he or she has been wounded; there is no way to recover from wounds, although after a brief period of time, the player will function at 100% again. Receiving wounds will temporarily slow the player down, especially if they receive a wound to the legs or feet; receiving a wound to the hands causes the player to drop their currently held weapon on the ground. Rifles usually kill players in one shot if it connects with the torso or head.
Vehicle support is also a prominent feature of the game. The player can operate the combat vehicles as one of the crew members. Most tanks, for example, can accommodate up to three crew members (a driver, a commander and a machine-gunner) to make them fully effective in close city fighting, however it is easy to crew a tank solo and simply switch to different positions as needed. When grouped together in a vehicle, all players in the vehicle receive points for their actions and for the actions of their fellow crew members; for example, if a player is driving a tank and the tank commander destroys an enemy tank, both the player and the commander will receive the appropriate amount of points for that kill. When operating a tank solo, the player can only perform one of the roles at a time; this prevents a solo player from being able to fire, move and reload all at the same time (reloading is a task performed by the commander). The game also features artillery support in some maps which can be utilized by both squad leaders and tank commanders.
Red Orchestra has also introduced several innovations now being seen in mainstream games, such as an advanced 3D scope for sniper rifles.

Yeah, Darkest hour is almost as much fun as Ro. Ill edit the OP with mods for red orchetra.
I always play as Motherland, since they have the awesome semi-auto rifle. Best gun in the game if you ask me.
URAAAAA
This game is so much fun, but I really have to be in the right mood and have the patience to get into a good server.
However, when it all works, its an amazing game.
I got it for something like £2.99 a while ago while it was on some discount, and gave my friend a guestpass. It was great fun to go out into the fields, me sniping and him with an MG.
looks cool

Playing with a friend is one of the best ways to play the game, i have had many epic moments with friends while being traped in a ruin in leningrad, with tanks blasting away at us.
:iia:
Can't wait for the second one to come out, I love my SP.
I LOVE RO :v:
Hope I'll be able to run the next one aswell
Does it have decent bots that I can play with when I don't want to play online?
Does it have decent bots that I can play with when I don't want to play online?
You can change the difficulty level of the bots, they're semi intelligent I suppose
and Darkest Hour is amazing.
Bots are ok, but the game really should be played multiplayer.
I also recommend joining a group, so you can have private matches with friends.
I used to be with the 51st in Darkest hour, but i left that.

The bots are fucking stupid. Only really good for practicing your aiming.
That game is so pure awesome, there isn't anything like this on the market. Great experience and challenging. I love it!

In theme maybe but not from a gameplay standpoint.

I disagree, the gameplay offeres an experience i have never had in a game before. The rush you get at the start of a match is amazing when theres about 30 of your team charging towards the enemy, bullets rushing pass your head, running blindly into a thick smoke not knowing whats behind it.
It creates such amazing atmosphere.

I'm sorry I guess ARMA, ARMA 2, and the Operation Flashpoint series don't exist. They all offer roughly the same experience.
I wasn't talking about the 'gameplay' you thought I meant. I was talking about 'gameplay mechanics'. Two totally different things.

Oh yeah, gameplay mechanics is nothing new, you should of made that clearer. The games you listed above give a very different feel, they all fit into modern warfare. Which is alot 'slower' and 'cleaner' then the brutal warfare the russians and germans experienced on the eastern front.
I love this game, and I'd be happy to play with people here. Someone should make a FP group for RO-players. I love being AT soldier, hunting down those tanks is awesome. My favgun is probably PPSh42, although the STG44 is probably the best gun in the game.
Oh god, I love RO, the STG44 is awesome. Also for some reason I absolutely love the German Semi-auto rifle G41.

Indeed, it seems very accurate to me for some reason!
Yes, but reloading takes long.

Sorry, I figured the people would be smart enough to know what I was talking about without me having to hold their hand.

This is the weapon which I held off an entire Soviet squad with in one of the ruined towers on Odessa. I couldn't believe how accurate it was on full auto.
a few years ago I got fairly good whilst playing over a free weekend.
Then last year I bought it for 10€.
I was absolutely lost. I shot about 2 times as much of my own team as I killed the other team, never saw anybody, always got sniped...
This game is pretty bad to newbes.
I asked ingame "how do I know who is who besides the direction they're running?"
Only answer I got was "lol that's the only way"
:(

You can tell by the uniform.
But RO is a hard game, 1 shot kill most of the time. But this is why its so good.
Yeah of course it's the uniform, but most of the time I only see it clearly when I'm about 5m away from the enemy. If they're far away I get confused :(
But my confusion sometimes confuses the enemy. Somebody obviously not shooting at them makes them not shoot at you.
Oh darn my english got rather bad
In theme maybe but not from a gameplay standpoint.
It's like the exact opposite of what you said. The theme, World War II, has been done been many times, but the gameplay is what makes this unique.
