• Rallying Supporters Against Indies

Please listen me out before you rage. This topic might seem absurd, but please listen to reason. Indie Developers might seem like good guys, hell some them are, but they don't know what they are doing to the gaming industry. We find the urge to support them because they are clear underdogs and could use all the help they could get. But by supporting Indies, we are causing irreparable damage that will cripple our industry. The recent success of indie games has sent the wrong message to the big publishers. A more lower budget and shorter games seem to be a better business choice then a 15 hour action packed adventure. Video games are moving towards small cheap downloadable games like those found in the Apple Appstore. Big time developers are already making shorter contentless games. Indie games are the biggest influence that has caused this growing epidemic. Indie games are cheap to produce and less time consuming then their Triple A brethren yet they are sold for ridiculous prices. Why do Indie games sell themselves for $20 when it only cost a few thousand dollars to produce while a Tripple game costs millions to make and only 2 years after release sell for $15? It simply is beggining to make more sence to make a short low budget game. You may say that these successful indie games deserve to succed due to "innovation" but for every minecraft there is a thousand Fort Zombies. People seem to forget that High budget games can also be innovative. Did everyone forget Demon's souls and Portal? Bassicly all these Indie games are doing what Tripple A titles are doing, except cheaper and shorter. This all would be okay if Indie and high budget games could co-exist, but obviously they cant. It's time to choose. I gave you the reasons. Indie game or High Quality games? Do whats best for us all. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/deathtoindiegames (Edit) Listen. I know why this sounds so stupid, but thats why it's so dangerous. Indie games seem friendly and good, but they WILL destroy gaming!
Shove your petition up your ass.
Ive worked with some Indie games and many of them are really top notch games. The fact you call them low quality shows you know nothing of the amount of work that goes into them.
Shove your petition up your ass.
Agreeing with yourself wont help you.
Agreeing with yourself wont help you.
isten this is a mature topic, we don't want 12 year olds trolling it.
I'm terribly sorry that Indie games have nothing to do with Activision and it's money-mongering
I'm terribly sorry that Indie games have nothing to do with Activision and it's money-mongering
They have more to do with eachother then you think. Indie game are influencing the big title, degrading their quality. [editline]25th January 2011[/editline]
Shove your petition up your ass.
Be mature about this
isten this is a mature topic, we don't want 12 year olds trolling it.
You are saying that indie games are ruining the gaming industry. It's CLEARLY making it it grow several sizes!
Indie games are the cause of less quality games? Man... I guess you're right, I can't think of a single high-budget game coming out this year... :golfclap:
And Garry, the founder of the forum and maker of Garry's Mod, is pretty much a indie developer and most of us members SUPPORT indie games and enjoy them, you wont get any supporters here. [editline]25th January 2011[/editline]
Indie games are the cause of less quality games? Man... You are blind if you cannot see the games coming out this year.
You are saying that indie games are ruining the gaming industry. It's CLEARLY making it it grow several sizes!
Yes, indie games are stuffing lard into our industry
Indie developers give more people opportunity to work within the game development scene, people that can't work with big studios like Bioware and Valve. If you find that bad, you might aswell leave right now.

Im trying to stop it before it becomes a major problem.
Indie developers give more people opportunity to work within the game development scene, people that can't work with big studios like Bioware and Valve. Just look what Valve has done with Indie devs, we wouldnt have games like Portal, TF2, CS.
Joke about it now, in 5 years kiss all your favourite ip's goodbye. I read this thread and immediately contracted a brain aneurysm.
Man, you're acting like Indie games are the Antichrist of gaming
uhmm who the fuck are you and why did you register just to do this?
Indie developers give more people opportunity to work within the game development scene, people that can't work with big studios like Bioware and Valve. If you find that bad, you might aswell leave right now.
There are reasons why these people cant make it to Bioware.
And if it weren't for Steam, alot of minor studios would never get the profit they deserve. Forums like Facepunch also gave Minecraft a great welcome to the market, making it sell millions of copies!
Man, you're acting like Indie games are the Antichrist of gaming
They soon will be.
The Indie developers are the smart ones, clearly.
There are reasons why these people cant make it to Bioware.
And that is: They can't get the chance to show what they can do, UNTIL they start with indie development. Superdino has some fine examples.
If anything it makes big studios work harder. Nobody is going to buy a game for $100 if you can get something that is essentially same thing for $20.
Shove your petition up your ass.

And if it weren't for Steam, alot of minor studios would never get the profit they deserve. Forums like Facepunch also gave Minecraft a great welcome to the market, making it sell millions of copies!
But its not to late to correct our mistakes.
Joke about it now, in 5 years kiss all your favourite ip's goodbye. Im trying to stop it before it becomes a major problem.
I'm sure your silly little petition is going to make a huge difference. Now why don't you just... leave? I think people made it pretty clear that they don't agree with you so there's no support to get here.
If anything it makes big studios work harder. Nobody is going to buy a game for $100 if you can get something that is essentially same thing for $20.
But it's not making games better, their getting cheaper and worse
But its not to late to correct our mistakes.
I believe we got a christian troll on our hands, people. [editline]25th January 2011[/editline]
But it's not making games better, their getting cheaper and worse
Using the current games from Activision is not a valid arguement.
As an indie developer, I have one thing to say: Fuck you.
There are reasons why these people cant make it to Bioware.
Just because people can't get work at a studio doesn't mean they are bad developers. Studios tend to hire people with prior experience.
