How come I can never get back into Minecraft anymore?

I used to play a TON of Minecraft around the time of the Halloween update, and a few other long periods some times after that. The problem is, I REALLY would like to play minecraft, but I always find myself logging in, starting a world/my server, playing for a few hours, then never going back on that world/my server for months on end.
It sucks because I love the creative element to minecraft but it gets so repetitive, I never killed the enderdragon, but it never interested me to even do so.
I've tried tekkit, couldn't get into it.
I guess i'm just burnt out. Even long extended breaks don't seem to work for me.
I think what I dislike is the lack of adventure in the game, it was fun when I was a noob, thats when creativity flowed immensely, now it runs dry ever few hours. (Plus mining all the damn time gets really repetitive)
I've tried so many things to get me back into it, but I guess I just havent been able to.
Even Creative gets boring.
What I want to ask is two things:
1- How do you keep playing without getting bored?
and
2- How can I get back into it?
Hopefully someone could mention something about minecraft that might get me back into it or something because I would love to build awesome structures, but I can never commit after a certain time passes.
Thanks for the help if you can provide any :D
I run a server with a few friends of mine, we play every other day or so. Super fun when you're Skyping with good friends. Singleplayer got boring for me back in Alpha.
Unfortunately too much of anything will burn us out. It's human nature, and there's not much we can do about it.
Try a MineZ server.
Yeah, if you get into a good Creative server and you're good at building, recognition for your work will keep you coming back.
[del]Try a tekkit server.
Mine is good, skellies is more focused on creative, although I don't seem to like getting OP in about 24-48 hours of gametime, and inacios, well, eh it's okay
also profans is pretty good from what I've heard, however I haven't heard about their tekkit server and how well that is going yet.[/del]
woops
you tried tekkit I guess I missed that
if you want, you can try tekkit again, and I can teach you some stuff, it's a lot more fun once you know what you're doing (and sometimes it is when you don't know what you're doing :v:)
Tekkit is what got me back into it. I used to just play buildcraft but that got boring, but tekkit has loads of ways to get things interacting, you get the usual startup, crappy base till you find a diamond and then EE lets you really run off. But i like it because it can be used very creatively in some machines, though it can be abused too...
Adventure mode is supposed to being added soon, so you could hold on for that and see if its any fun :D
I feel the same way.
I just wish I could get a small group of guys, friends preferably and build a town. Not a gigantic sprawling town where you'll never find each other but a nice one around a lake. I don't like creative that much but a SMP server would be loads of fun.
A big problem for me is the cartos servers have. I'm always tempted to look at them and I look around the map all the time even after I found a place to build. But then I keep thinking "Well building X over there in Y biome would be cool" so I'm always running around... I'd be a lot more content with my area if I didn't have a map of the whole freaking world at my fingertips. Always greener on the other side I suppose...
And the mods on most servers... Sure, being able to easily chop down the large trees is nice. But it sucks when a trip to the forest to cut wood takes literally less than a minute for a stack of logs. It's bullshit. The mods that make the game easier. I'm not saying Mobs should be harder, they're pretty damn tough for a while when you're starting out but everything else, the building isn't as rewarding.
Most server owners that have been around for a while don't realize that they've driven away most of their original community because they wanted to "Keep up" with the cries and demands of players who just freaking bought minecraft. Listen to your original player base, not Minewreck3495 and his buddies who make giant cobble cubes for houses and leave trees floating in the air because they're too lazy to cut them all down. (This goes for most FP servers unfortunately)

I saw a wee bit of that on Seananner's Channel, still not sure how it plays out. Obviously supposed to be like DayZ but is it fun?

Really? I always wanted that! If they added that I probably would get back into it, I loved Terraria for that reason. What kind of stuff do they plan on adding?
personally I only enjoy minecraft in faction servers or servers like that. when it comes to those servers minecraft is merely an extension to a shitfest political war simulator where your soldiers are your friends and your country is that castle you spent 30 hours on only to watch it get tnt'd in 5 minutes after you pissed off the wrong people.
Ya i have this problem too, i love digging and building in weird locals but i never finish things. I built this massive wall for this monstsr castle and i never could build the castle part
Tekkit is awsome though, i love building massive pipelines
We need another ventlegille.
I would highly suggest trying out a Factions server. The one that I used to frequent, Goose's Faction Server, is restarting in mid-August to early September. It's not like 2b2t, if you're worried - it's much more civilized and non-hacky.
Every so often, a server or community event would happen and the various nations would unite for a while, but even though we were often pitted against each other, it never descended into 'build massive base in ten hours, get destroyed in five minutes.
The thread is currently under the title SKS's Faction Server, because a split happened in the community, which is what caused the old server to collapse. SKS's failed too, so the old server owner, T4L_Goose, is restarting the classic server.
Try a special kind of server, like MineZ, or hungergames, if freebuild/adventure gets boring. If not, then playing a server with friends could be fun. But I mainly just play one server that I stick on and I set goals, which makes it less boring, and more enjoyable.
I get on Minecraft ever week to build a small cabin.
Multiplayer for me is the best way to have fun. Whenever I join a new server, I would ask existing people for any projects they are working on. I then ask if I could help. The project leader would give me a few tools, a bed, some food and a home. I would then mine, help build, contribute in various other ways. Whilst I do this, once I have enough resources, I move on and create my own settlement. When new players join, I ask them to come to my settlement and help it expand. This makes it fun for me. I'm doing the same in Tekkit servers too.
In my opinion, playing with friends you already know is quite fun too. However, I like servers where I don't know the people I'm playing with since it gives me a better challenge and fun experience. Multiplayer for me is the way to go now.
Don't people get pissed off at you for leaving?
I like being able to relax in Minecraft. Mainly when its night time, i open my window before I go to sleep and play minecraft for a little while as a way to wind down. (it sounds weird i know) So thats my more recent minecraft experience. I have also played a mod called "Thaumcraft" which brought me back into adventuring and curiosity, it is actually a pretty sweet mod and you should google it. I also got the Aether mod which achieved bringing me back into minecraft for a while longer. Plus I find adventure maps online and play it with friends while skyping which is also fun. I always just end up finding something somehow.
I bought Minecraft around when infdev first came out over two years ago. I have really never stopped playing, but I feel exactly the same way. I would do almost anything to go back to being a noob. I have never had so much fun playing a game as I did then.
Yeah, problem is i've already done skype with friends multiple times. Maybe I am just burnt out, even though I don't want to be. I find that so weird haha.
Building in creative is fun, but the second I lose inspiration, even for a second, I usually drop the project. Sucks man..
I get burnt out of minecraft to a lot but how i get back into it is to pretty much just troll everybody. Especially people that rage. Even greif a little, just go on servers that are shitty and greif them and when an admin gets pissed or if a player starts raging its extremely amusing, but i did not say greif good servers. Never ruin a good server. You can also troll your freinds in a freindly matter and then make things normal afterward. Like i heard of a parnk today and what it was, was one of this kids freinds took his laptop and went in and changed the textures of ores to stone. that kid was all like WTF coal from stone!?!? Anyways if yuo cant find tekkit fun either then i suggest you learn how to play it better watch these tutorials that are on youtube and the person that uploads them goes by the name of "szucs2020" look him up then learn how to play tekkit. Hope you get back into minecraft :D
We need another ventlegille.
Honestly, looking back, Ventlegille was the most fun I've ever had in Minecraft. Just a group of funny people making their own ridiculous society based off a silly concept, but at the same time taking pride in it! I've always wanted to start it up again but haven't seen any real demand for it. Shame.
That simplicity and sense of community along with creativity was really great and kept people coming back to minecraft every day.
What was Ventlegille? The name rings a bell and it sounds like it was fun.

Isn't Adventure Mode solely for adventure maps

Not really, it's laggy as fuck (there's ~140 players on at once), so it's nearly impossible to kill a zombie without getting seriously injured, there's a severe lack of food (your play pretty much ends when you starve to death, most of the time) and the community is pretty bad, but that part might be my experience

seems you would fit right in the minecraft forums

It was a creative server that started back in 2010, it was made up of a few FP Minecraft (then chat thread) regulars. From day one we decided that all players would have to wear suits in an attempt to build a giant city for gentlemen. Basically, it was a server just for dicking around and doing whatever. Hilarity ensued. We build a functioning sewer system, an underwatter tunneling system (which was very difficult to do at the time).
We were a very creative bunch, we made things like a cloning facility, a pokemon arena, we designed a gay district and I invented a virtual reality chamber. It was a great server that ended due to pointless drama.
Found some old pictures actually:

I would suggest try to join a Tekkit server. Adds a huge ammount of content. I think I spent like 2 months or something playing with a couple of friends on a Tekkit server.
Good times
I would suggest not spending too much time on one world. That's what does it for me. I try and mix it up and just go through a world to start a new one. It's boring when you have everything and you just dig for diamonds, and then go to the End.
Try out some mods for minecraft, that's what I've been doing.
-never-mind, it's already been said-
