Treyarch, developer of the seventh Call Of Duty game Black Ops, has claimed that "angry fans" could stunt creativity in games development.
The studio's first map pack for CoD: Black Ops, First Strike, was released earlier on Xbox Live - and early fan feedback seems to be largely positive.
However, things don't always run so smoothly according to Treyarch community boss Josh Olin - particularly when developers try something new.
"Personally, as a community manager who lives in the media or social media world every day, I think the social culture of video games is moving in a more negative direction as technology and social media continues to grow," he told NowGamer.
"Rather than growing with it, the trend seems to be devolving. More and more gamers seem to forget what this industry is all about.
"It's a creative industry - the most creative form of entertainment in existence. Too many developers who try new things are getting burned by "pundits" and angry entitled fans who look to be contrarian, sometimes simply for the sake of being contrarian.
"The only thing this attitude aims to achieve is stunt that creativity and innovation even further, which is something that no rational gamer looking to be entertained would want to do."
UK consumer action group Gamers' Voice has reported Activision to the Office Of Fair Trading for the PS3 and PC version of Black Ops, which it perceives as inferior ports of the Xbox 360 version.
The Black Ops: First Strike DLC is available now for 1200MP.
No right minded person would want a franchise to continue on without being heavily innovative each time. This is why I hate it when big titles franchise themselves, they cant live up to the last great thing they did so instead they resort to repeating while adding minor additions instead of fixing the original problems or overhauling.
Oh the irony.
They just don't learn, do they?
PERHAPS WE ARE ANGRY FOR THE FACT THAT YOUR SHITTY HALF-ASSED EXCUSES FOR MAP PACKS ARE THE PRICE OF A SWEET DINNER YOU BLIND, THICK SKULLED MORONS
Why is it that big companies cannot, for the life of them, see what we want and listen to our advice on how to make a game not fucking suck. They only listen to the sheeple that keep paying for that crap and then go and do some slimeballing on their forums to make more, while there are 2 thousand threads pointing out the problems. And those threads just get deleted, forgotten and dismissed as "angry gamers lol". They make my blood boil.

says treyarch, developers of the acclaimed game Call of Duty 9: Not another fucking CoD game
If Call of Duty is innovative I really don't want to see stagnation.

Wow, hey, every map has props on different locations, okay!
Like I said in another thread, I hope to christ the industry is having growing pains and this shit won't drag on. Devs need to kill huge franchises and get that 90's flare back.
The community is becoming shit and "forgetting what the industry is about" because the community, especially the COD community, is largly mainstream gamers.
They haven't forgotten, they just never knew, nor do they care.
It's ironic when these mainstream tailored gaming companies talk about "the gaming industry" especially the supposed "gaming community", as if they know shit about it anymore. I mean really, are they that out of touch with actual gamers?
Because re-releasing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the fourth time is really innovative.
I don't know how they can talk like that as if every developer studio feels that way. None of them do, just you Treyarch.

from another perspective, the cod games sell like mad. they are not innovative. so they exactly prove his point

Sometimes i wonder if Treyarch and IW had their eyes poked out by the publishers so they can't see what is thrown right at them
The average COD player doesn't even know what a processor is, let alone see in why a map costing 15 bucks is a stupid, retarded money-wolf move.
I mean for gods sake even Portal 2 will have free DLC, and the ability to play custom maps ON ALL THE CONSOLES. And yet they STILL can't see in why this shit should be illegal.
If the COD games started releasing free map packs, then I really have no idea how the "community" would react. Honestly, they have been playing with blindfolds for so long it would probably burn their eyes when they get this sorta stuff.
Treyarch are covering for Ko-dick
The biggest trouble for hardcore gamers is the console and casual gamer. At present they dominate the market. Game development is a business so they will make and sell what the majority want to make maximum profit. The casual gamer is happy to pick up and play the mundane, repetative crap being churned out and will begin to complain if someone messes with their games too much. It's too different for them and they have to adjust their style of play, which for people who probably pick up and play for 30-60 minutes at a time don't want, hence the amount of repetative crap coming our way.
Another guess about the lack of innovation could also be linked to piracy. Profit margins are probably a lot less than they used to be so a company has to shift a lot of copies to make good money, if you dare to try a new feature it will either flop or take off, a lot of companies aren't willing to take the risk of it flopping so look to create something they know will work but add a few shiny bits to make sure it'll sell.
ITT: Angry gamers threatning poor Treyarch from releasing Call of Duty: Modern World at Black Ops Warfare War 4 (CoD:MWBLOWW4)
They actually said that their games were innovative? Hahaha

YES BECAUSE 3000 DOLLARS FOR A HAT SOUND REALLY RESONABLE UNLESS YOU ARE POOR AND IRISH.

Its things like this that give gaming a bad name :saddowns:

The sole reason that exists is for the mainstreamers and kiddies to milk the money. Gameplay improvements and fixes are still free, and that's how it SHOULD be.
The day a FIX starts at 5$ is the day mainstream gaming dies. "Weapon balance and fix pack, download for 9.99$!"
And there is nothing that can convince me those companies are not heading down that path, made out of money and tears.
Wow. I mean WOW.
My ass is more innovative that the latest CoD games.
It's things like this that make me happy that Valve is releasing for the PS3 rather than Xbox-360. That way their fan base doesn't get polluted with "casual gamers"

Optional purchases for items that can be acquired freely through other means vs non-optional purchase of maps that could have been put into the game way before release.
Valve are actually smart about the micro-transactions.
Gamers say "Treyarch is retarded"

Hats > Maps :downs:
Have you ever seen virtual maps get traded for games?

You'd think these idiots would put the pieces together and realize some of the "new things" they're trying are fucking retarded?
I think the creaters of the 8th Call of Duty games are right; creativity is soon to be stunted, not by money grabbing tactics and absurd numbers of sequels, but by angry fans.
Nothing says "succesful game" than hundreds of people with no opinions either way. Take a look at star trek, for example. That is a total failure because of the sheer volume of fans it has and people who hate it, same with many things, such as Grand Theft Auto IV. That had so many angry people decrying it that it was a complete and total failure.
I hope everyone stops having opinions on games and starts buying more and more sequels whilst not buying anything new, like Amnesia, Bulletstorm, Portal, or a whole plethora of other, original titles.
In the future I hope to see more and more call of duty games, supported by people who think they're great and want to keep buying them due to their creativity in taking the exact same gameplay and modifying or improving upon it ever so slightly in a different environment that plays in exactly the same way. That's what creativity is; repetition.

"at treyarch our idea of a new thing is adding 3 more guns and recycling the same gameplay that was established 4 years ago"
They already have made loads of money, and they are saying this now?
