Echochrome requires the player to control a moving character—which resembles an articulated wooden artist's mannequin—to visit, in any order, particular locations on the surfaces of collections of three-dimensional shapes. The locations to be visited are marked by shadows ("echoes") of the moving character. When the last marked position has been visited, one further echo appears which must be reached in order to complete the level: scoring is simply a matter of timing completion of each level (or a course containing several levels). However, the character cannot be directly controlled by the player: it moves autonomously, following a path along the surface of each shape in a manner which keeps the path's boundary on the character's left (that is, in order of preference, turning left, proceeding straight ahead, turning right, or turning back on itself). The unique aspect of the game is that the path can be altered merely by rotating the shapes and viewing them from a different perspective: for instance if a gap or obstacle is obscured, the character will behave as if the path continues behind the object which currently obscures the gap or obstacle from view. Similarly, if discontinuous shapes or parts of the same shape appear, from the chosen camera angle, to form a continuous path, the character will traverse from one to the other. Although the character cannot step off the surface of a shape, there are certain points where it may hop off or fall. It then falls downwards to whatever appears to be below it, or off the bottom of the screen to be rematerialized at a previous position. This behaviour forms one of the most compelling aspects of the game because the player must deliberately interpret the three dimensional world as if it were two dimensional in order to determine where the character will land.
Not only is this an amazing puzzle game, but it has a beautiful soundtrack: Illusions, illusions everywhere.
After playing just a few levels I got a headache from the "design" of the game. It's so dull.
After playing just a few levels I got a headache from the "design" of the game. It's so dull.
I disagree but okay.
Amazing game.
Needs more PC version.
Needs more PC version.
A PC version would be amazing. Being able to share levels you made with everyone.
What a unique concept. Unfortunately, I do not own a psp so I guess I will have to miss this one.
Wow, this is such an awesome concept for a puzzle game, very original! I'll have to get this when I get a chance.
I played this at a games convention around 3 years ago...nevertheless, awesome idea. By now I'd have thought there'd be a sequel/port. EDIT: Huh, who'd have know, there is a sequel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echoshift Oh well, since I don't own a PS3/PSP, I guess I won't play neither any time soon.
I can feel my head being fucked just by watching the video. :psyduck:
What a unique concept. Unfortunately, I do not own a psp so I guess I will have to miss this one.
It's for the PS3 as well.
Urgh, I always hated the cover art. Colour! Why? Rep for Echochrome 2 aswell.
:psyduck:: The game.
If blocking a hole from view causes it to stop existing, what happens when I close my eyes?
Then nothing exist.
Needs more PC version.
You mean this PC version? http://imposs.ible.jp/fujiki/ole_coordinate_system/index.html#download
This game... ... needs color and PC version. :buddy:
Needs more PC version.
http://imposs.ible.jp/fujiki/ole_coordinate_system/index.html#download There has always been a free PC version. It doesn't have any premade levels like Echochrome but if you want to mess around with the engine, there you go.
You mean this PC version? http://imposs.ible.jp/fujiki/ole_coordinate_system/index.html#download
Dude that's awesome.
Dude that's awesome.
Would be better if there we're levels, or the ability to import user made ones - playing around get's boring quickly.
The soundtrack from this game. Oh my. I can rank it as some of the most beautiful violin pieces I have ever heard. I will recommend it to everyone who ever has a passion for music. I would also like for someone to find me some high quality versions of the soundtrack. Simply majestic.
I want Echochrome 2, but I don't want to buy a Move just for a single title just yet. It is, but apparently it's the official sequel - just with an altered gameplay mechanic.
hipster game
It is, but apparently it's the official sequel - just with an altered gameplay mechanic.
There are 3 games in the series. Echochrome 2 is on PS3.
I played this last year or so. Really fun game in my opinion; it makes me wish my PSP wasn't broken.
Looks kind of difficult to tell what you'd jump or land onto sometimes.
