Okay, I am surprised that you g33ks need this pointing out but from what I have seen of the oversized space slugs ('Combine') there is no way they could have defeated the military might of earth in 7 hours. For those of you who really should be intelligent enough to realise, it is a plot element purely used for convenience by the writers. It is in no way an accurate measurement to judge how much resistance humanity could put up against the Combine.
Let's look at the facts for a minute. We have nukes, Army, Navy, Air Force, SWAT, Delta Force, hell, we have bombs so accurate we could drop them through the PH UCKERS windows, that's if, they even have any (probably not). We have tons of heavy hardware. We have supersonic aircraft that can fly over drop tactical nukes and then be miles away before they hit the ground. We have laser sights, we have grenades, hand held rocket launchers. We would at least give the space slugs a bloody nose.
So just to reiterate (I thought I would use that word since Valve like to fairly often so it won't upset you guys) the 7 hour war was a plot element. Do NOT...use it as a measure to determine humanity's effectiveness against the Combine.

So, How many years in future HL2 is? It is about 10 years MORE.

The Combine can teleport between dimensions, have crazy organic spaceships, can build crazy huge towers, so I think it's fair to say they have the technology to subjugate us pretty quickly.

Even if they used an EMP we would still pwn those PHUCKERS.
An AR2 will always be in the shadow of an M4 Carbine with an M203 multi-purpose grenade launcher.
